Located smack in the middle of an urban and crowded locale of Trivandrum, the site was a small plot that was being suffocated by other residential projects from all four sides. The idea of this residence was to have an inward-facing house with all its spaces opening into a funneling central courtyard. The house is aligned in the East-West direction with openings facilitating for maximum cross-ventilation.
Keeping in mind that brick kilns in Trivandrum are a dying industry with people opting out for wire-cut machine made bricks, this was also an attempt to promote this local agriculture-based industry that is on the brink of extinction.
Architect Vinu Daniel walks us through the house carved within pirouetting walls.

I appreciate the architect but more importantly I would like to give a big thumbs-up to his client who believed and allowed him to follow his thought process.

you have to appreciate the client's ability to factor in architectural beauty into their cost/benefit analysis of this project which is a rare in Indian culture. Kudos to the architect for designing something so amazing in such a tight space.

As much I appreciate the desire to build something eco-friendly, I see the utility factor of this house is very little. You lost a lot of space in the wave structures. I wonder what you are utilizing for. If it is just for show purpose, then it will be useless in long run.

It looks unfinished from outside but the wall structure is so unique and i think it'll look better as it ages. It also reminds me of my maternal grandmother's old mud house. It has that kind of feeling. It takes you back to your childhood.

Qudos to the architect for the besutiful eco-friendly concept.
Great to know that atleast few malayali's are shedding the desire to 'display' their abode...
And the best part is the concept where our privacy matters, that we don't open our door to the house opposite ours where an self appointed 'mallu cctv ' is always scrutinising, calculating our moves..
Privacy, should always be defined, as human race is closing in.. As he rightly said.
The design makes the house quite big, airy, spacious..
Though, i have quite a few speculations about the look.
Won't too much dust, dirt, soot etc accumulate amount the bricks, it's projections etc?

Initially, I thought it was a wonderful house. House is for the owners to live, and not for the architects to show their talents. Well, for my taste, I would not choose this architect. I will not let the trees inside the home. The trees are having natural swing. It may be for one to two meters. It will let other insects to come inside. Yes, I agree that a house need not be like a museum, but it should not be like a zoo as well. People with identity crisis, may love this house. End of the days, every architect has a justification, "this house is what the client wants", as if the poor client has seen every house.. !!!
