  • I'm so sorry for the delay ladies and gents...
    Due to this being a very cheap laser I noticed that it was very inconsistent with its cuts and I assumed that the tube was dying and sadly I was right.
    I had tried to buy one a while back but due to recent World issues I couldn't get it into the country. So had to spend more and buy a different one.
    Before I start anything like this I like to give it a good clean and then after I had finished I decide I'd change the water too as it had started to go very gungy.
    Thanks for watching, If you enjoyed it then please like, subscribe

    1st I'll respectfully suggest you replace the clear cooling tubes, into and out from your 5 gal bucket, with opaque tubing. I'm running red and black. Saves using additives. As far as antifreeze use? Use an aquarium heater instead.
    2nd I want to compliment your maintenance methods. Especially wiping down the X axis rail! Not seen anyone else do this! Kudos.
    I've subscribed and will follow your other K40 videos.
    Oh, my new desktop laser is the OMTECH 0813 BG which is identical to your machine other than a few minor details.

      There is still a lot of things I'd like to change on my k40. I'd like a smaller reservoir with cooling, all the tubes replaced. And various other upgrades. Thanks for your comment I appreciate your advice. If you have any other tips and tricks please don't hesitate to let me know

    Hi, I'm new to the laser world and still learning. Could you tell me is that a normal shrink tubing the one you used to put silicone in ? And also what kind of silicone should i buy? Thank you

    • @TheOffGridFamily
      @TheOffGridFamily  Год назад

      It needs to be a high temperature silicone. I'm not sure what you mean about the shrink tubing? If I used some in the vid (it was a while back) then its just normal stuff

    Hi why not distilled water just setting up my new laser been looking at deionised vs distilled and distilled is favourite I think

    • @TheOffGridFamily
      @TheOffGridFamily  2 года назад

      I chose deionised water because it's was cheaper than distilled. All you need is a fluid that won't conduct electricity so either will work. Good luck and have fun

    Finally 4 months late and 2nd tube arrived not broken 🤣... Quick question.. can I use standard silicon sealer, the stuff used for DIY etc... And on my laser the 2 metal connections are about 3mm... Will they be ok for a connection...I don't wanna send it back, it's been nearly a year without a tube ...cheers mate, love your channel

      That's painful! I hate going without a toy for that long.
      Right when doing my research I found that using normal silicon was not advisable (I can't remember why though).
      I brought my silicone on eBay for really cheap(£3).
      Do you mean the stripped ends are 3mm long because if so I would just strip them a little more although 3mm should work. It will just make it a little harder to make a good connection. If I've not understood then please message me again and I will try and help..good luck my friend and Thanks for the comment

      @@TheOffGridFamily thanks bro... I mean the little metal connector that comes out the tube..
      Oh I have to wait more time for the special silicon to arrive 😭😭😭

      Oh yeah I see. Yeah that's fine just wrap the wire around it making sure it's tight and you should be good.
      I'm sorry man, it's rubbish having to wait but it's always worth using the right stuff so you don't have to end up waiting longer when it breaks etc. I'm starting to make more laser related videos and I may even start live streaming making designs and cutting them. Is there anything in particular you'd find helpful?

      @@TheOffGridFamily there's an electrical wholesaler in the city (cork) where I work, I pop in their on way home.. hopefully they stock electrical connection sealer..
      Did you look into changing the control board? I got the mini grbl, but I'm have serious issue with shielding and losing connection mid job..
      The k40 is a fine machine but like a wife they are very temperamental 🤣🤣

      @@jigsey. no comment on the wife (sorry but my life is valuable)
      No I haven't looked into changing anything like that yet. I had a whole list of upgrades I wanted to do but haven't got around to doing any. I got a new 3D printer and that took a lot of my time. I've also got a top secret project I'm working on (coming soon)
      There are so many projects I want to get done but not enough hours in the day! I am working on some pretty elaborate projects at the moment but they often take a few months to do and I need other videos in between so it's 4-5 months before they get released.
      I've been more active on patreon recently (some patreon only, other stuff for everyone) if you are interested (not a hint but a good source of information) I also do a few bits and bobs on the community page on RUclips but I feel like not many people see that
