I remember the aftermath of both the Rajiv Gandhi and Benazir Bhutto assassinations distinctly. I was in India when the former took place, and I was supposed to leave a day after the latter, a trip that never took place. In the case of Rajiv's assassination, the Indian government and media co-operated to show photographs of the assassination every day, asking the public if they had seen any of the people in the pictures. Within days, everyone knew the names of all of the individuals on the film, people came forward to talk to the police and it was just a question of time before the assassins were found and killed in a shootout. In Benazir Bhutto's case, it was the exact opposite. Until today, I have not found out any details of the young man who shot her at close range with a handgun before he was himself killed in a suicide bomb explosion. No one seems to know his name, what family he belonged to, where he was from, nothing at all. And, there seems to have been no effort to figure this out. Perhaps, this kind of investigation was outside the skills of the Pakistani authorities. That said, that was the case in India too, but with complete transparency, the Indian government was able to piece together the entire story of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination. Sadly, that opportunity seems to have been lost in Pakistan.
The alleged person who shot her is said to be a boy named Bilal. He was professionally trained at shooting and shot Bibi.
Well, Pakistan has a lot of censorship, there's a really high chance that they were aware of the killer but did not disclose the details. Same thing happened in the case of the plane crash of general zia too.
Kudos to the Indian Intelligence and co-operation of locals as a sign of tribute to patriotism of Tamils towards the nation. But DMK's approach towards LTTE was also proven to be great catalyst in solving this issue. Karunanidhi literally showed the "kiss my ass" kind of indications to Prabhakaran.
Rajiv was killed by indian deepstate hired poor people so India can launch an attack and kill the freedom movement of LTTE. The same is true with the assassination of Indra gandhi.It was done to destroy and finish khalistan movement. Benazir and every other leader , politician, journalist and people dead in so called Terrorist attacks were killed by ISI. It was a good analysis but you failed to mentioned the aftershocks of her assassination. Hundreds of people lost their innocent lives, business were burnt down, the poor factory female workers were molested on the streets. Although she was assassinated in Punjab but Karachi had to pay the biggest price. I know her murder mystery will never be solved but what about those innocents? Who will raise the voice for them?

All these great leaders are also butchers of a different kind! Jinnah butchered Hindus in 1947, Bhutto got the Bengalis butchered in 1971, Benazir got Kashmiris butchered in the 90s. Musharraf brought huge fame to Pak, in Kargil, by getting more than 3000 Pak soldiers butchered by the Indian army. Other famous leaders of Pak are Mr. Ten percent, the Shemale Bilawal who is confused whether he is a Zardari or Bhutto, and lastly the Sharifs who are known for corruption.

Very valid point about questioning assassinations of such democratically elected leaders in your country. On the contrary, it should also be noted that Benazir reaped what she sowed. Her unnecessary provocation of Kashmiris in India had led to the murder rape, and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. She tried to use that as an instrument to gain popularity in Pakistan. Years later, the same militants that she had funded killed her. What a sad but truly karmic irony for Benazir, isn't it?
Do not forget that Benazir's father had also a hand in the rise of Taliban. He was the one who provided the protection of parliament to the creed of intolerant religious right by getting the Ahmadi sect declared non Muslim by a bunch of corrupt parliamentarians and extremely jahil " ulema", thus providing the seeds of religious hate a suitable ground to grow in. The conference of Islamic countries in Lahore in 1974 was an event which was never properly looked at as far as I know. Perhaps some other person can shed some light on it too.

Your analysis usually impresses, but Benazir's case is not that simple. Such people are always vulnarable as their hands are sullied too. Like her father she made deals with the religious right, had support from dubious western characters. She didn't do anything for the poor people. She came to power twice, also with the help of people who had no interest in the betterment of the Pakistani masses. PPP stalwarts plus her husband looted the country with both hands during her reign. A power hungry person who asks Dick C for protection. How do you think she could ever be an independent leader coming to power with that sort of help from the US?
