- New video essay delving into flawed characters and what various types of ways films show these flaws. Working on green screen stuff, but it's a task to try and get that situated, so enjoy narration again!
Let me know if you have any flawed characters you think are neat!
Remember to like, comment, and text your mom I love you. Развлечения
Yes, this is awesome! The flaws in characters is what makes evolves a story from being 'interesting' into being something that we can use to learn and explore ideas that we otherwise would never encounter. It's always been a mystery how some writers can nail flawed characters brilliantly. Love your perspective on it!
Quick question that you might be the perfect person to ask. Have you ever run into copywrite issues on your channel when you do commentary that revolves around needing to use small clips from copywrited film/tv? I know it "should" fall under fair use, but it's such a gray area and so many people have had mixed results. As a new creator, whenever I have a video idea that would require clips from a movie or TV show to make sense, my brain starts to melt every time I read up on Fair Use's nuances, haha.
Sorry for the late response, I've been behind on comments. To answer your question, I haven't had too much of a copyright issue once I got monetized. Maybe I only was taking it serious when money got involved, but I'm not giving away the 4 pennies a video makes to some random company.
Everything you're commenting or reviewing falls under fair use, if you need the prompt I use I can share it with you. But the only semi tricky part is a film's score, while it theoretically falls under the film you're covering that's usually what I get claims against me for. Even that falls under fair use though!
Whenever someone mentions Princess Mononoke I instantly like the video
Btw I watched 500 days of summer last night and this evaluation was really helpful.
As for films with perfectly flawed characters, the two that come to mind are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Carrey and Winslet are both extremely flawed which makes them so perfect for each other), and Memento (where literally every character acts according to their own morally ambiguous self interests)
Great examples! Great examples, yeah I eventually maybe want to do something with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and even Memento. I've been meaning to rewatch ESotSM but I know it will make me big sad haha
I am writing a character that is basically a narcissistic person who says a lot of bad things. And this was really helpful. Thanks
Wow Thank You! Best of luck with your writing, feel free to share if you want!
Hey, came over from reddit. I like your analysis of the characters. I appreciate the humour too but I would personally like it to be a bit serious. Anyways you are doing a great job. Keep it up I'll be checking your content from now on, hopefully get some insights.
Gotcha! Thank you for the feedback, also if you ever want to guest on the All That Film Podcast just let me know!
Dude this was great. I loved this video.
Thanks! Good to hear from the most Chrill of casts
Another character that would have fit perfectly in flawed by circumstance is Joel Miller in the Last of Us. I am surprised you didn't mention him. *SPOILERS FOR THE LAST OF US BELOW!!!*
In 2013, Joel had only one daughter around when an infection broke out and became apocalyptic. During the chaos of escaping, his daughter was shot and ended up dying in his arms. For the next 20 years, he could not bring himself to accept his loss so he became a soulless man and a smuggler many states away. It was only until he was assigned to smuggle a girl named Ellie who was immune to the infection across the country. Through out their journey, they grow to start caring for one another as though father and daughter but when they finally reach their designation, the the people who hired Joel, tell him that they intend on sacrificing Ellie for a potential vaccine. Because of Joel's flaw of not getting over the loss of his daughter, he fights back to save her and in doing so kills the lead doctor and the leader of the group, both of which were not bad people.
The Last of Us was and still is a master piece (aside from the second one) and Joel Miller is my favorite character of that story and probably one of my absolute favorite characters ever.
At the time of writing this video I actually hadn't played either of TLOU games. I have since completed both and that would have been a fantastic example to use.
And then came abby ;(
Too bad that they took that direction, but hey my girlfriends loves that game more than first so i guess it send a message to all woman, i just can't stand abby at all
i make it easy, you write flawed character knowing flawed people, not copyng what other characters depicted by other authors, knowing psicology also helps, but dont make a self insert out of it
Harold & Maude, yo.
Great choice! One of my favs
@@HizzyHay :D

@@HizzyHay you absolutely should, it's 7 seasons but, trust me, each one is worth it :)
