Excellent breakdown, Judah. Well articulated from a fellow Alien and Predator fan. H.G. Giger might have been a madman, but he was a talented madman. I miss the days when James Cameron and Ridley Scott made ya know...good films. Their best days may be behind them, but I also enjoyed this film. I thought they nailed the esthetics for the most part, and it actually felt like I was back in that universe again. However, the two biggest issues for me were the characters. They were so two dimensionaly written to be either niavely good to the point of almost being dumb, or so clearly not good. You knew who was going to live or die emediatly upon being introduced to them. Once again, a film treating it's fans like they were as dumb as our protagonist at times. This made (what could have been) interesting characters wildly unrelatable, and also removing characters arks, like Hudson and Gorman had in Aliens. Or in the original Alien where everyone was farily likable and/or relatable. I was truly surprised when charecters like Dallas or Parker died in the original, which really raised the stakes and the level of suspension for me as a viewer. The other issue I had was the vague explanation of how they were producing Face Hugger eggs from the charred corpse of the "Big Chap" in the first place. He wasn't a queen, as stated by Ripley in "Aliens," and it felt like they were really trying to force a connective tissue between the Prometheus and the Aliens sagas. To me, it seemed to make the queen kind of irrelevant. I guess these days black alien jizz really can be applied as the "do it all" Macguffin in this franchise whenever it's needed.
loved "ya know...good films." Thanks for taking the time to watch. I enjoyed reading your comment. You are so right about the face huggers, and I did not even think of it until you said something.
