I had a 172, a 197 F1 and a 220 Trophy before getting a Leon Cupra 290. Out of all these cars the 197 was, in my opinion, by far the best to drive, and yet I felt the slowest of the bunch. If there was a ever a road going Hot Hatch that actually felt like it was made for a circuit then this is it. Steering feel and the engagement on every drive was off the scale. Really felt like a little touring car on the road

I wasn't a fan of the 197 or 200 front ends but both have grown on me, and lowered, they look bloody excellent. I've had my fair share of fast Renaults and other cars but the Clio's and R5GTT before it handle better than everything I've driven, including my Elise on Nitrons (because I was too scared to crash it lol). Also, they are very quick and can me modded quite easily. The thing is you don't need tons of power to have a laugh or use on track until you're more experienced and hit the limits of the cars power-to-traction.

Owning a 182 myself these are definitely a dead breed. Last of the true N/A hot hatch. Prefer the 200 over the 197 but will still rather drive the 182. Think the prices are going to start climbing like the ep3's have. must correct you though Jamie, tax is 305 for the 200's same as the 1*2's and 197's still cheaper than the 330 for the ep3's and fn2's though. Cracking vid mate.

I've had mine for going on 6 years now (replacing a 306 GTi6) and it's a keeper. The Recaro's are perfectly comfortable for my 100 kg spine issued self. Only problem it makes you hate traffic that much more for robbing the chance to blitz corners and roundabouts.
I agree about the balance between new and old school, the electric power steering lacks some feel though.

Never got the idea that cars should have "age demographics"... I mean they're fucking *cars,* dude, not TV shows, IDK why this pisses me off but, it just comes across as presumptuous, douchey, and enforcing dumb generalisations when manufacturers say shit like "this is for young people", "that one is for older people," or "35-year-old black pansexual mothers should buy this" - in a way they're enforcing conformism, despite personal individuality being a foundation of Western society.
I mean I'm nearly 28, so whether or not I qualify as a "young person" is up for debate, but I know there are some things that people don't just "grow out" of, and whether it's the JDM, Muscle, classics, Supercars or hot hatches, it really comes down to shared Interest, rather than how long you've been alive, because those are things you don't really "grow out" of, nor should they have a "socially acceptable age"..... As all the middle-aged Muscle car and Sierra Cosworth enthusiasts show.
Anyway, disjointed, borderline autistic rant over. Peace.

You can tell how messed up the suspension is. Ya`ll ruin this car with lowering springs, spacers and lousy suspensions. Most of them will handle like your mom`s peugeot. It`s a shame because stock they are really well handling.

It's more like 25 to 28mpg around the doors, and up to 35mpg on a long run.
