- Pedro Pascal, also known for his work in “The Mandalorian,” plays Joel, a man who helps a teenage girl named Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, find a cure 20 years after society falls to the virus. HBO’s highly anticipated “The Last of Us” TV series, based on the popular PlayStation video game, will debut on Jan. 15, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Season 1 will consist of nine episodes.

Neil would indeed be pleased that Pedro didn't call them Zombies. In a panel years ago, he corrected a fan that called the infected for zombies.
If nothing else that just makes Druckmann look pedantic.
The Infected are zombies, it's just the game thinks that you take them more seriously if they're called something else.
@Telos 1807 I can see why you would think that since they act the same way. But a zombie is a walking corpse. Or someone who has DIED and revived back through reanimation. The infected in TLOU are Humans affected by fugus alternating their brain and driving them insane. That's why a zombie can "survive" and crawl with half a body since it's already a corpse, while an infected with half a body would die instantly since they're basically just humans driven mad.

@@Telos1807 the infected ain’t zombies, the infected are still alive, feeling everything but they lost the ability to control their functions, because the cordyceps is a fungi parasite that takes control of the host but the host doesn’t die, not until the cordyceps is ready to become spores, and then it dies, and the cordyceps becomes like a plant that emits spores in a constant manner. Do some research before calling someone pedantic

According to The Last of Us co-creator Neil Druckmann, who also co-directed the original game, Ramsey wasn't the only Game of Thrones veteran considered for the Ellie role. Druckmann recently confirmed that he met with Maisie Williams back when The Last of Us was still being developed as a feature film. He also said that Booksmart's Kaitlyn Dever was in the frame at one point, too, and even took part in a table read. Both Williams and Dever ultimately aged out of the role, though, and Mazin and Druckmann hired Ramsey after being impressed by her audition tape. "It was like Ellie realized in live action. It didn't feel like watching an actor," Druckmann said.
Hopefully if they do a season 2 and adapt the second game, they’ll cast Kaitlyn Dever to play an older version of Ellie! I think she’d be a great fit for that time period and her and Bella share similar facial features as well

whatever anyone thinks of the series it's an absorbing game full of unexpected twists first time through.
Yeah in my opinion and experience on both games I think Bella and Pedro should play these games as well because they would fully understand what is happening in ahead of time but it would have a spoiler alert for them so I would think that they would be more able to expect what is to come about in the show

The show is still violent. TLOU, especially part 1 isn't about violence.
Plenty of people from the cast are gamers and have played the games. This isn't the 70's anymore. Being a gamer isn't special. Also - actors not interacting with the source material when making an adaptation is standard procedure.
@M couldn't have said it better myself. Guess my only addition would be the violence being toned down will make the importance scenes that involve violence Sarah and David for example. Will be all the more impactful

If there’s no scene of Ellie on a pallet and Joel getting a ladder to elevate his companions, the show gets a 0/10

1:04 this little scene LOL. After the first episode, I warmed up to Ramsey's casting pretty quickly. I know, I KNOW, she'll play a great Ellie, I just have to pretend that she didn't look like a stabby snarky little squirrel and more like Ramsey. Because the Ellie I knew had this... spark? In her eyes? And Ramsey's eyes are more like vacant and lost? Still an excellent rendition but hey, we gamers love Ellie and Joel, so what can we do but compare?

wasn't Ellie modeled after Ellen Page (before Elliot if anyone calls me out lol)? and I agree. For the vision they had I knew Pedro was perfect, Bella threw me off but after a hot min I knew she had the GRIT they wanted to see IRL. so far all of it has been excellent
Only plot hole in what Ellie might be doing if the outbreak didn’t happen is that she was born like 8 years into the outbreak so she might possibly not even been born
I like this cast but i think the logan wolverine look from Hugh Jackman would of FIT PERFECT, Hugh Jackman Logan he had the grey beard with the beat up look and the body type too, its perfect
People commenting on this as a Game Adaptation need to realise is was a story first, game second. The two stories are exceptional and if they translate it as well as the games did then its a win. I just hope if they do the second story it is rainy and more moody as that's the whole tone. Like the scene in The Road to Perdition where Tom Hanks character takes down the mob in the rain along with Paul Newman's character. We need that type of scene setting.

She wasnt a perfect cast due to age, its likely they consider the time jump she'll be 20-21 when that happens and I wonder who will they casy as Abby I dont know any actor that is buff like an ox as the game described her. because if they follow the game maybe 4-5 episodes Joel and Ellie wont be in it.

The weird thing is if the character of Ellie is a girl with an American accent then why not cast a girl with an American accent? How many actresses would have died for this role so why cast Bella who has a thick accent! Same goes for The Walking Dead how many of those characters all had accents so they had to learn to speak like an American so why not just cast..... Forget it I hope everyone got my point. God Bless.
