FWIW, it's Pavlov's dog and Pascual's wager. Faith and reason are not mutually exclusive. Truth is truth. Scientists have developed the multiverse theory which basically is infinite regression. Why do you and I know that I am me and you are you. Self-consciousness is unique only to our species and science cannot explain it. Just a thought to ponder, give God the chance and he'll clear it all up for you.

At around the 24 min mark, Fr. Rich talks about Judas trying to 'get ahead', this is very true. This is why Jesus told Peter to 'get behind' him and called him Satan. Satan always tries to 'get ahead', but of course Jesus must be the head, and we must follow.

It’s actually a pleasant break from the plethora of radical bloggers who bring doom, gloom, criticism, darkness, and unnerving cage rattling to the Catholic table. Watching you instead is like reading “Our Sunday Visitor” as opposed to “The Remnant.” I’m not saying it wouldn’t hurt to focus a little more on controversial issues in the Catholic world, but even then, you are positive about it. Thanks. God bless all of you.

The biggest problem in the Catholic Church is the same biggest problem that other churches have. The people. And you can’t escape people by going to a different church. As Mother Angelica used to say, “If you find a church you think is perfect and you go there, guess what? That church won’t be perfect anymore.” 😉😇

My understanding: vital to do at least an annual consecration of our parish and neighborhood as well as our family to The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ and The Immaculate Heart of Mary. 2. Check our daily language and gestures - cast out bad language and gestures. Check our favourite jokes - strike out what's foul. 3. Re-evaluate the culture of kicking out our young children/teenagers,. single young adults. Stay together and pray together.

Before I started searching for a church, I wanted a “perfect “ church. Immediately I realized that the church wouldn’t be perfect as soon as I entered. 🤣
That was 20 years before I became a Catholic.
I applied so much science in searching for the right church that I concluded that the only two scientifically sounded religions had to be Catholicism and Judaism.

@@davido3026 even when free will is involved Jesus crucifixion still needed to happen by a certain time for the prophecy to be fulfilled and who’s to say at the last moments before Judas kissed him on the cheek he could have changed his mind and not turned him in and kissed some random stranger instead . Then the last supper would have to happen again and so on which wouldn’t make sense since Jesus foresaw his betrayal four different times according to the conversation earlier . Judas had to be the one . The only difference is that he didn’t have to kill himself after he could have asked for forgiveness and repented after Jesus returned on the third day following his death . But even that is a stretch since Jesus told him it would be better that he not even be born which would drive anyone crazy . Not to mention Judas already being off his rocker and supper greedy. Judas was corrupt and could be counted on to backslide and betray Jesus in a very specific way non of the others could .

Judas thought that eventually Jesus would build an army to defeat the Romans but when he realized that That wasn’t what Jesus mission was that’s when the devil entered him and he decided to take another path but I don’t think he knew that they would torture and crucify Him he probably thought that they would put him in a prison. On the other hand maybe Jesus pick Judas because He knew that he had to die for us and chose Judas because he knew he would be the one to betray Him??

I am writing this before I watch the video but The Mystical City of God authored by Ven Mary of Agreda under the direction of Mary Mother of God discusses Judas in some of the sections. It has been years since I read it but Judas already had weaknesses that Jesus and Mary tried to help him with. His heart became turned against God I think it was pride or one of the deadly sins. I remember when there was a need for a bursar (paraphrasing) Judas volunteered for it. Jesus examined this idea and thought it needed more reflection and maybe it was not a good choice for Jesus already knew it would be in this that he would sin and commit the ultimate sin but Judas persisted so Jesus let him. In the book it is a caution Mary has for us that Jesus will not stand in between our free will and if we choose sin He will allow us to choose it including the means. We see glimpses of Judas in this regard in other passages leading up to the betrayal. One was him disparaging using the fragrant oil to anoint Jesus' feet and then another time where the apostles are discussing Judas and how he stole from the purse in his position of being in charge of their funds. I'll say this, and it is yet ANOTHER miracle that the Church has survived and could not do so without Jesus - if Peter was the Church's first Pope, Judas was the first Financial Officer and yet the Church flourished despite it all from that day to this day and forever.

  • @2009glories
    @2009glories 2 года назад +2

I had an insight that Judas wanted to force Jesus to perform a miracle to save Himself. This would have obviously brought much money into their purse. It is not about the 30 pieces of silver which is nothing. However, when Jesus does not do this and Judas realizes his own role in the fulfilment of prophecy is when he despaired. Many of us want to force Jesus to perform miracles today.

I feel like Jesus knew that Judas was going to betray him, That, this is the way this has to go down ultimately. But I still think there was that little bit of Jesus that just held out hope against hope that his friend wouldn't do it. And when Judas did, there was such pain and sorrow in Jesus's heart. I think Father rich is right, The kiss was a symbol of true affection that became twisted affection. Or maybe it was a symbol of the last affection that Judas would ever show to his teacher.

Best comment I heard was from a priest in .Slovenia. The homily was about the jobs the apostles had before joining Christ. When he got to Judas he said people ask why Jesus had a Judas, he simply said “Every organization has a Judas”. In that instance I recognized every sociopath or narcissist I ever worked with, and in nearly every case their behavior led to their career suicide.😮

'The Chosen' introduced Judas in the last episode of season two last year. It will be interesting to see how they play out his character and role with the original 11. Judas was definitely not a good guy, he had lots of baggage, as we all do, however he chose the wrong road to carry his baggage along, let alone betraying our Lord, that in itself is beyone heinous. Great episode, very interesting and you guys always do a great job. Blessings to you.

Original 11? Us and then him? There were an original 12. Don’t hang, um, him out there by himself. Not a knock against the Chosen, but it is a drama that does a good job of making us think a little more. Jesus had very real relationships with each disciple. Original? Are we staring at Adam and Eve as well? I do just as bad now. If I was ‘first’ I would have made a mess too. To an extent there were things in each disciple or they wouldn’t have run away, re-assuming their old livelihoods when Jesus was gone. But a worse sin for me to feel better about because mine isn’t as bad? No.

I LOVE watching your intelligence of Bible Passages and reflections of the History of events....particularly this. I just want to add my own feelings of Judas and Jesus. I believe that Jesus is WELL AWARE of everything about the Disciples He chooses. I believe He is Well Aware of Judas and what Judas will do to go against Him. From the beginning.
We tend...I believe...to forget Jesus is Lord and knows EXACTLY what His Life is to be as our Savior. To realize He is to go to the Cross for our sins. Judas does as He is to do....in order for Jesus's Crucifixion.

Great conversation. There is such an irony in that the job of the apostles was to spread the good news and to share that the son of man had come. To show people who he was. To shepard the flock. He did exactly that with a kiss in a betrayal, distorting his mission

I've heard it said that the only unforgivable sin Lee unforgivable sin is against the Holy Spirit and that that means not accepting The forgiveness of Jesus Christ. Maybe if Judas had sought out the the other disciples sought oit was sort out Jesus he might have been able to look for some kind of forgiveness. That's why we need to look for God instead of despairing in times of trouble.

You all should read Maria Valtorta's writings. Jesus reveals so much about Judas and his motivations and their relationship. She was a mystic and victim soul that is private revelation but validated by the church.

A fascinating discussion. May I ask a further look at Pilate . I have heard that Pilate is much better thought of in the Eastern trdation then in the Latin rite. Pilate is a model of typical politicians. He is willing to do the right thing if it doesn’t cost him any votes. Can you explain why Pilate is given more respect among the orthodox and eastern rite?

Before reading the Bible, I HATED Pilate! I mean sheer hatred for him...after reading the Bible, I saw that it wasn't Pilate so much, but the regulations that made him do what he did...he did not see Jesus as a threat, what he saw as a threat were the Jews rising up and taking their conquered land back. Pilate gave the people what THEY WANTED, NOT what he felt was the correct thing to do, which was to release Him as HE was innocent. Pilate saw that the Pharisees/Sadducees wanted to keep THEIR PROMINENCE in the Temple, also...THAT is WHY Pilate washed his hands of the decision he made, and, WHY we have this action in our Daily Mass today. God Bless y'all & a Happy, Joyous Easter!!

A great lesson is to know that when you sin even a little bit it leads you down the wrong path & from there you give Satan a foothold. Once that happens it takes humility & turning to Jesus to be free. This example is urgent for all of us to realize the reality of what happens when we choose sin over Jesus. 😢

It always blows my mind how God used the will of evil men to complete his plan of salvation. Judas would have been forgiven like Peter was. but Satan used his guilt to take his soul .

It was shame that took him because guilt and shame are different things. I can feel guilty when I done something wrong and go and repent and no longer feel guilty but shame is stronger where you run away out of shame and that is what Judas did.

Glad you touched on it: Judas betrayed Jesus over the Holy Eucharist. The only time Jesus’s disciples let him for one of His teachings was The Bread of Life Discourse. Immediately after their departure Jesus alludes to Judas’ betrayal by saying one of his Apostles is a devil. Then during the Last Supper Satan enters Judas once he takes the Morsel and then leaves to betray Him. Judas couldn’t accept the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

Why did Judas betray Jesus? For the same reason we betray Jesus every time we sin.

First, I ask our Lord God for forgiveness for this comment and may the Holy Spirit guide me more to the right path. This is my comment: All of us were created for a purpose. We were given a role, a mission to accomplish here on earth. Unfortunately, Judas Escariot was given this role to betray Jesus to make redemption come into reality. If not him, I think there would be another person to do it. In other words, Judas was part of the equation. I was asking myself, if there was no betrayal, how would Jesus die on the cross and resurrect after three days? Would Jesus' enemies still come after him and bring him to trial?
Instead of condemning Judas, and considering that he was repentant of that grave act, we should be praying for him. Forgive me if this line of reasoning is not in accordance with the scriptures. Again, may the Holy Spirit enlighten me 🙏🙏🙏

"All roads lead to finance," said my accountant friend. "If you want to understand an organization, become their treasurer"! (Interesting that a poor itinerant preacher and his equally poor followers would need a treasurer). As the treasurer, Judas would therefore see where the money was coming from, and where it was going to, and the implications thereof. Obviously, he decided he did not like the direction things were heading.

On Good Friday the Homily was about Judas vs. Peter......it wasn't that he betrayed Jesus. It was that he didn't ask Jesus for forgiveness when he kissed him in the Garden.....or go and beg his forgiveness at the foot of the cross. He killed himself instead. On the other hand, Peter betrayed our Lord, just as predicted, but instead of dispair, he asked for Forgiveness & Mercy and it was given to him by a risen Christ!! Judas succummbed to Satan, where as Peter did not.

I have to admit that I have also thought, in addition not opposition to the ideas voiced already, that John sounds a lot like an old man, understandably bitter remembering the betrayal, now in his 90's, just venting some bad feelings that may or may not be completely true of Judas.
Believing in the truth and inspiration of scripture doesn't keep me from at least musing about these things.
But I could be wrong, on multiple levels.
    If so, pray for me?

Odd and interesting topic. I have always asked myself if Judas betrayal was necessary to the development that was pre-destined. What difference it made? I always asked myself why identify him if he was public, known in public places, everybody eas looking to listen to his teachings. The very farisees questioned him day and night, tried to trick him etc. Was there something legal ot maybe historical behind it?

I empatise with Judas and think he didn’t know the Pharisees intended to kill Jesus. I also think he was contrite but in a wrong way. He was too remorseful to live with himself. Perhaps, he was abandoned and didn't know or have anyone to turn to for a better choice.
I don't know where he may be now but I hope God's mercy found him still. Thou shall not kill (oneself or other).
Lord, help us to trust in your love and mercy to forgive ourselves, trusting you've forgiven us. In Jesus Christ name. Amen

I've always tried to suppress this thought because I've always felt that lingering on it would be detrimental to my faith. In order for Jesus to fulfill his work on Earth, the role of Judas had to be carried out by somebody, or would Jesus have handed himself over to the Roman authorities in the end anyway? (Who were carrying out their duties because of the accusations brought forth by the Pharisees anyway)

    Greetings!
So, The Plan of Salvation was in place before the foundations of The Earth were laid…
Judas had a pivotal role in The Salvation Plan. God is omniscient. So, was Judas being used as a stooge, OR, was he given foreknowledge regarding what his role would be, and took one for the team, so to speak…???
