Watch out for kayakers and respect them on the water. I’ve always had older people fly right by me not caring in the world. The younger ones have been good on the water. Watch out for kayaks on the water.
If a boat is fishing birds, don't go blasting through the school. Happened to us twice this morning in west bay. Awesome content sir, hope to fish with you someday.
soo many times i'm on birds and someone comes rushing up on me to fish them too only to blow them out before they catch a fish. Then they're on the big motor running out again. just creep up if you do we can both fish them for longer!
Great topic. What seems like common sense is anything but for a lot of people. I wish every Port Mansfield fisherman would watch it. My biggest pet peeve is dolts blocking the boat ramp after they launch. They'll tie off to the ramp divider, lolly gag around, load stuff in the boat, go buy a fishing license, wait in line for bait, etc., (people, there are boat slips dedicated for crap like this) all with 10 or more other guys in line trying to launch. We never take more than 1-2 minutes to launch or load a boat. The only time I tie off to a ramp divider is if I'm by myself, and that's pretty rare. Oh, and after loading your boat, pull forward enough so the next guy can back down....geez! I guess that huge sign with "DON'T BLOCK BOAT RAMPS" written on it only applies to others. With regards to on-water etiquette, most around PM are sensible, but I've fished POC and Rockport/Corpus and seen some crazy stuff.....no more of that. Keep up the good work!
Man, totally agree on all accounts. I bought my boat two years ago and am grateful for my friend who took the time to teach me etiquette you've mentioned. Most of my worst experiences were in Port Aransas, Padre Island, and BIB boat launch where big crowds are...and makes me appreciate launching in western Baffin now with smaller crowds. I recall days before I had a kayak or a boat and walked in waded a lot. I had boats buzz in front and be behind me, even had some anchor up and they all started wading where I was heading. Since then when I hook into a good fish with a boat coming I'll land them under water... Anyway I find its best to streamline launching, give each other space, and learn some navigation skills on the ICW.
Preach it my brother! Couldn't agree with you more, in Aransas Pass area there is a whole bunch of boys with Daddies boat and no common sense. Great video as they always are. Keep it up and tight lines
As a kayaker that only gets to Texas about 3 times a year, boats are my biggest concern. I am truly afraid of some of the boaters. Thanks for posting the info, hope the ones that need to watch this do!
I was guiding out of POC last year for Memorial Day. That’s where the 25’ Majek reference came from. Another one did it and knocked a hole in the side of my boat. Fun time!
Good stuff. On running close to wade fisherman or another boat a rule of thumb I used to use- if you can see the color of that person's shirt you're too close.
agree my tip would be go as slow as you need to in order to move quickly. 12 years I had a 22 foot blue wave i could get on and off quickly. I recently got a 25 majek and I laughed when you said the guy with the new 25 majek. I launch and fish alone alot and every time I start rushing i do some kind of damage. my first time alone on my majek i had a few people there and was like i need to get out of their way and ended up in their way about 10 times longer then i needed to. There's probably a facebook live of me banging my boat all over the place and knocking off brand new stuff. had i just slowed down i would have been fine.
Great points. Thanks for taking my boy Mike out, great video & great fishing🤙🏼 Being a kayaker I would add keep it chill around us. I know kayakers are like bicyclists, we're lame & most boaters think we're just in the way. Truth be told it takes a lot of time & energy to kayak to most spots don't burn up our fishing after we spent hours kayaking to try to find some fish. Be kind. Like I said great info I'll be checking out your channel🤙🏼
I regretted that after posting. My line would have been “if there are kayakers in your way, they got up way earlier than you and worked way harder than you. Respect that”. Sorry!
Love the boating advice........I see comments already, but could you do (if you have not) a rules of the "road" for boaters in vicinity of kayakers. Boaters and kayakers alike could use it.
I had a run in with two boats coming at me in the ICW and needless to say my little poling skiff was tossing and turning and the ol butt clench was engaged. Keep the videos coming buddy!
Great video!! Touched on all of the important topics! Especially the boat ramp etiquette!! Load your boat with everything that you will need prior to backing down the ramp and the headlights.. those two drive me nuts!
Another great video man. I learned a few things also. Relatively new boater here. Looks like you may have ruffled some feathers on fb with this one haha. Good job brother!
Well done bud. I hate running by someone in small cuts but like you said they chose to play in the road. Also nice pink and gold phone, it really accents your cheeks!😂
This was another good video that talks about subjects that I am interested in. Thanks for discussing the intercostal. Don’t hate the haters that can’t compete.
Preach! lol loved this one some of the stuff you mentioned really needed to be said. can't wait to see what you come out with next. Good luck to you and kade in the bite me tournament, me and my dad are fishing it as well.
Man just subscribed earlier today, and I’ve watched your videos all day! I’m a huge fan man. I’m a huge Gorda fisherman too! Love the channel. Keep it up brother
Love the Mad Max reference Lol!! I can imagine that situation now... I’ve heard you say that you’ve been down on your luck the past couple months between the trolling motor, the phones, and losing your calendar. Hopefully your luck turns around soon man. Stay safe out there this weekend and watch out for the weekend Googans. Thanks for the vids!
Capt Caleb TV I’m a cash analyst for a Mortgage Lending company. I do about 15 different spreadsheets a day. Stable money so I can’t complain too much.
I miss the old days when folks had respect on the water. Everyone is in to big of a hurry now days but all we can do is inform others and adapt and overcome.
What are your thoughts on running the diversion channel when it is lined with boats on both sides? If there is a boat here and there I will idle by, but I stay on plane if it is loaded up.
Thanks for posting this. Too many times you hear the horror stories of boats going past waders wayyy to close. Glad that kayaks were mentioned as well as that form of water transport becomes more prevalent and widespread.
@@toddthibodeaux8923 Seriously, had a kayaker almost try to fight me over that. He said "you saw me and hit the gas you f*!$er!!!" I said "yeah man, it makes the wake smaller I didn't want to wake you out" Then he stopped being upset, I think he never thought it through before.
You forgot the guys who see a boat with someone hooked up and they stop 40 yards behind you and start drifting right next to you. Oh and the guys who don’t know the physics of their boat and drifting. Guys will stop 100 yards away but will face you, with both boats facing each other, they are slowly drifting toward each other and that 100 yard distance closes to 10 yards in 20 mins 🤦♂️
You’re gonna be that guy from time to time. Heck, we all are. Sometimes it’s unavoidable, sometimes it’s an accident, sometimes someone just doesn’t know any better. But if you’re making an honest effort to do the right thing, people need to cut a little slack.
Do unto others as you would have done unto you. Thanks so much! for repeating all these common sense things as well as the etiquette about which side to pass, that is clearly not common sense to pass on the right since you pass on the left on the road.
Nothing worse than an “etiquette” video. Being well mannered is beneficial in all aspects of life, but someone taking the time to correct others is difficult to watch. I came here to see this guy catch fish, not whine for eleven minutes about the kind of people we all see on the water. The kind of person who would commit any of these acts are probably not the kind who would follow any of this advice.
Sorry you feel this way. I see things differently, however. Being a guy that spends a lot of time on the water and who will stop and take time to talk to others when I can, about what they just did, or are doing, I have found a lot of them simply didn’t know any better and weren’t intentionally trying to be rude to other boaters. I’m not mad at em and didn’t intend to come off as “whining”. In fact, I’ve gotten several messages from people telling my they didn’t know any better until they watched whatever piece of this applied to them. Anyhow, sorry you didn’t like this one. Hopefully my others that are built around fishing suited you. 👍🏼
Your channel is one of the best on RUclips, and I don’t understand how you don’t have a billion subscribers yet. All your other videos (and your appearances on the bite me podcast) are filled with information, and I reference them often. Those two resources alone have retaught me how to fish as an adult, and I’d like to extend my gratitude to John, Scott, and yourself. If others found this helpful, then I’m glad that they did, and hope it helps them have a better time on the water. I don’t mind being wrong. Keep making videos, and I’ll keep telling everyone I come across about this channel and the podcast. If you ever get burned by a little camo fly skiff, feel free to get back on here and call me names.
Watch out for kayakers and respect them on the water. I’ve always had older people fly right by me not caring in the world. The younger ones have been good on the water. Watch out for kayaks on the water.

Good tips. Hope to get a boat when I can get back to Texas. Novice, so I do appreciate the boating etiquette video.
Good stuff. Common courtesy goes a long ways.
Right on! Port O Connor boat ramps are insane. This weekend it’s going to be packed.

I have one. Boater vs Kayakers, I believe it’s called.

My biggest fear is being “That guy” on the water. Thanks for tips. Tight lines.
Great info as usual. I'll see if I can get some video of people being jack wagons this weekend.
Love the channel. Glad to hear you got your trolling motor back.
Learned some stuff. Thank you captain Caleb
Awesome video! A must watch for everyone.
Excellent show as usual. You hit on all the points! Enjoy the holiday!!! I stay off the water on weekends (if possible) and all holidays!! Be safe!

Gotta say, I never heard the turn your headlights off at the ramp before. I will start doing that.
Appreciate it man! Had a great time! Thank you!

If you see somebody drifting don’t anchor up in front of them, close enough where you can ask them if they need something to drink.
What are your thoughts on running the diversion channel when it is lined with boats on both sides? If there is a boat here and there I will idle by, but I stay on plane if it is loaded up.
I run it. Stay in the middle and go. Too many hazards on the sides.
Burning the shoreline is one of my biggest pet peeves, like how on gods green earth do you think that’s ok to do behind a wader
Sharing the heck outta this one
Thanks, Tony!

Good video!
Thanks Joey!
I was out at the Mouth of Brazos & seen a bunch of crazy fools on boats blowing past people in other boats, Kayaks, etc..
Good information! A lot of aggrevation can be avoided by fishing weekdays from June to September. Do you treat kayakers the same as waders?
ABSOLUTELY. Sometimes they are so scattered, I’m kinda cornered into a decision, but try as hard as I can to not be a jerk.
Them raccoon eyes though lol!!! Good content
Slow is gold
