THE BEST DEMONSTRATION I HAVE SEEN ON ADJUSTING THE VALVES ON THE HONDA GX SERIES. GREAT JOB!

The tip to hold the inside nut before loosening the jam nut was worth the view. thanks. also people make the mistake of adjusting the valves on the wrong TDC stroke. You did mention TDC on the compression stroke which is correct. Thanks.

Ok question. I have a gx 690...looking at the motor...to my left i took off the cap that covers the valves and took off on my right side too. There is one that loose, alot of play but the other 3 are tight. What does that mean? What do i need to do to fix?

Thanks for pointing out that tightening the 10mm jam nut tends to screw up your carefully set gap

Is that why a backfire is out the exhaust

Wow, verry great explanation. Thank you very much for that

You can remove the spark plug to stop it building compression while you spin it over to do your testing. Then just watch the exhaust valve to check that it does the big dip on the exhaust stroke, and the little dip on the compression stroke, which is what makes it easier to pull start. My engine had this fault, and was scary to pull start. Would pull the rope back out of your hand with what felt like the strength of 5 horses. Resetting the valve clearances cured it, although getting into the crankcase, removing the camshaft and cleaning / checking the compression release mechanism is actually pretty easy if resetting the valve clearances doesn’t work.

valves are adjusted right how do i know if the pressure release on start up is working i don't see the exhaust valve move that little bit. any other way to check that?

on my bcs with gx390...I have hunting/surging. I've ruled out air/carb issues for sure. Would valve adj possibly be my next thing to check? would that cause hunting/surging?

Your governor maybe out of adjustment and/ or your maybe your carburetor main jet has a tiny amount of crud in it.

Good vid. However, since the edge of the valve/rocker compartment is sharp edges and the jam & adjusting nuts are often almost seized together, it is a good idea to use a socket & ratchet to loosen the jam nut to place your hand further away from the compartment so that u can't accidentally bang & slice open your hand as can occur when using a 10mm wrench.

I liked that your video touched on my current issue. I have worn out seven gx200 clones in the past 5 years (2 tillers and 4 generators plus a new engine). My major problem has been excessive wear of the exhaust valve seats and the pushrod guides
My newest purchase is a 3k generator. In service only 3 months, and already problems. I have read about others with my problem, but still looking for a solution.
I cannot get the compression release to work as it is supposed to unless I have zero clearance on the exhaust valve adjustment. I'm hesitant to do a tear-down just yet to investigate (void warranty).
I certainly could use some feedback.
