hi everyone, thank you for the love on this video 💕✨ I’m seeing many questions, I’d love to do a Q&A video and share my non traditional path to becoming a SWE! Please comment your questions in this video~
"I wake up at 7:00, get to work at 9:30, have a coffee break at 10:15, have another break at 11:00, have hour lunch, next thing is having diner at 5:00." Didn't tell people what time she quit for the day, had to be before 5. It's looks to me like you actually did 3 1/2 hours of any real work, if one would call it that.
Yeah, it is pretty nice to be able to maintain an easy schedule when you are efficient with your time at work. My buddy works for Amazon and I'm constantly hearing about the shifts in his schedule from his projects he works on. Don't let one sneak peek into the life of someone be a portrayal of their entire work ethic.
Right, I'm not in US and for sure my income about 40-50% less than for US software engineer. What I know is that I work from around 8-22. Of course with some breaks in between. And she seems to have a pretty relaxed engineering day ... compared to mine.
So basically a life of software developer is go to office, sending few emails, have a small chat with co-workers, find good coffee and sandwiches for lunch, repeat same process in the afternoon, have good dinner, then head back home? Haha wtf
So your pure working periods are: 9:30 to 12:15 say 3 hours, then 1:30 to 5:00 say 4 hours, that's an easy 7 hr day, ending at 5pm, with a walk break, and a lunch break, and an uneventful post lunch period till dinner. That's luxury compare to my recent place, never left at 5, likely 6:30 or 7, and with breaks similar yours, but at least 2 meetings, so a normal day like 8 pure work hours plus 1 meeting hour, still due to pressure and workload always felt behind schedules. Now thinking may be 8-6 as my new normal specially when working from home. 8-6 is a long day, but that's life for a s/w developer.
Yes I don't' get it either. The video is super cool and all but what you get to the office at 09:30 AM and leave at 5 PM... why only so many hours? Do you probably happen to have a special contract with less hours? In my country everybody needs to work 8+ hours when working 100%.
Come to Italy, same job,13 meeting a day, 50% of working weekends, 60 realistic hours a week on work, shitty salary.... And you have to be Happy cause you have a job likes this...
Y'all missed the point. Many take it easy but also take work home in the evening. And work on weekend too. Some folks work longer days and then step away. Some like their work the same as a hobby and don't need to step away. So it's always relaxing but always have work in between off hours too.
I dig the video editing , i miss Seattle been a while since i been back , and im looking to transition into software Dev. So its cool to see how you do your thing ……. Thanks for the video
Start work at 09:30, coffee break (actually leaving the building) (15 mins), water break plus bananas (15 mins), then lunch at 12:15 ( for an hour and 5 mins) and then finish at 17:00. You were barely productive for 6 hours. If that is a realistic day, it doesn't seem like it is very productive or an efficient use of time. Dont get me wrong, I would love to have such a laid back and short work day. I would probably start at 8am and finish around 15:30 so I could make the most of the evenings.
@@mohammedshaheel1855 So it's just tough starting out and learning how things work as someone who never had a full time SWE job before. But I'm learning little by little. It's just not as glamorous as others make it to be. The only people who I see taking long lunches, vlogging, and taking pictures are HR personnel and PMs. Engineers are busy grinding.
Cafes that i like in seattle are Cafe Hagen (has the best food), wunderground, broadcast cafe (cacio de pepe bagel is great w/cream cheese), magic matcha, and aroom
I’m a boomer, but still shocked to see how many breaks ppl get at work these days…kinda meander into work around 9;30, take coffee break, water break, 10 min commute, break for a banana, break for lunch, and then done by 5PM. Feels like a day at the spa, not work. My son works on Wall Street and he’s lucky if he can get up from his desk to pee cuz he’s crazy busy throughout the day. I dont get it
I think it’s crazy how little some people work. I’ve seen several of these “Day in the Life” videos from different tech RUclipsrs and they all seem to work around 4 hours a day and all roll into work late. Now all these amazon employees are getting laid off (along with employees at many other big tech companies). Maybe they’ve come to realize, why have 2 people working 4 hours a day when you can have 1 person work an actual 8 hour day?
I am gen Y but you are right, i am a bit shocked as well… here in germany in my area, i get to office around 8 and work my a** off, with one break that lasts 30 minutes and come home from work around 17, 17:30 and thats it. ( ok i can start later, but i have to work 8 hours as minimum ( breaks come additional) straight; no matter what. And our Software Engineers too… 😮 She had a time at work around 7.5 hours, and a minimum of 2 hour breaks… here we call this „Teilzeit“ ( part time working ) 😂
Nice video... I've always wanted to know how working at Amazon is... I have a 2+ hour bus commute from north to downtown Seattle at mid-sized high-tech co... so jealous of your 15-min commute. ;)

I've been pretty interested in computer based careers lately, but with all the research I've done there's a countless amount of careers With so many variations, how were you able to determine that software engineering was for you?
Nice content overall even though I can't comprehend how come the seattle offices doesn't have a chef, or at least free snacks and free drinks. I've watched day of life from a spotify employee and I was blown away by all the treats they have at their offices.
@@0Mynameisearl0 good question, I have a feeling Amazon has more tough teams than other companies. Try staying away from AWS as everyone I know there works like crazy lol. Try asking when you’re being interviewed how Wlb is.
@@0Mynameisearl0 can agree with what Kimchi stated, highly dependent on the team you’re put into. I work at a different FAANG but I’ve had colleagues who previously worked at Amazon where half of them would say their team gave them a really decent WLB and others on teams who expected them to work well into Saturday night.
I'm curious if you grew up in the US or are a green card holder. May I ask what visa you have, if any? It's been my dream to work in the US, but I'm from the Philippines.
How do they seem to make every apartment building in Seattle cut from the same exact plans? My place has the same flooring, double stack in the bathroom, and big dog walk on the roof! Just recently stumbled upon the dog washing station which after probably fairly common as well? (I need a dog... 🐶). Also, do you take the bus to work? Because interestingly enough it takes me about 15 min to get to that building downtown if I take the bus since the bridge been broken... Much longer if i need a car which is kinda silly but gives me a reason besides global warming to utilize mass transit and help the planet which is cool. Forced conscious climate crusading considered another featured amenity perhaps? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (Until it starts to snow like crazy, which it feels like is definitely on it's way to Seattle area as I write this! 🥶)
