Next time you try and say your opinion, try and format it better. I can tell you didn't watch the video and just went to comments to say that the people are dumb for not liking this attempt at berserk, but Miura is the only one who can do it right, the novel is laughable at best, doesn't add anything and retracts more than it adds in fact. So, the main criticisms are:
1.) WAY, way too edgy.
2.) Borderline smut/erotica.
3.) Horrendous dialogue.
4.) Uncreative villains.
5.) Boring main characters.
The only noteworthy thing about this novel seems to be Miura's illustrations. I mean, what did we expect, this is the literal definition of fan-fiction. Miura didn't write this. He basically gave some random dude the keys to the kingdom and then said "Go ham fam."
Well...I'd say he hammed it up.
JoJo has random (out of canon) LNs with art by Araki himself. Hundreds of successful manga do actually. Berserk just got a worse one than likely any of them.
Araki also got some of the most influential and well regarded LN authors out there, Miura just gets some weirdo from Archive Of Our Own

Aight, but first you need to use this little doodad
Three things about the novel that just rubbed me the wrong way:
1. I was SO sure that Benedicte was supposed to be Slan in disguise. A young, naked child appearing out of nowhere, talking about what you will be in the future as if it was fate and being weirdly interested in the main character? I halfway assumed that she would guide Grunbeld into distrusting Sigur and Edward and sacrificing them both for power. You know, like the godhand does, twisting memories to reinforce the idea that the sacrifice is the right thing to do. But instead Benedicte is just a nice girl that loves saying dragon alot.
2. I liked that Sigur was halfswording her two-handed sword at the beginning, but then throughout the entire novel, she halfsworded it the entire time. That's kinda not the point of halfswording. A minor point for sure, but it annoyed me greatly.
3. Grunbeld should've been in an actual desperate situation. Yes, he was outnumbered, outgunned and all that, but he still was very much fighting. Imagine on the other hand if he somehow was crippled after some events and couldn't even fight anymore, seeing benedicte "die" and about to die himself in an dishonorable, unable to fight back and therefore unable to get to the hall of the gods. THEN the godhand appears and gives him a chance to fight, ensuring his place with the gods. But that also would've needed more personality on Grunbeld, with him holding the religion of the nordmen in high places... but the Grunbeld in the story doesn't care for shit.

1 wouldn't have made sense. The God Hand can't just manifest in the physical world at their own leisure. She even says that the troll guts is the first physical form she's had in a long time.

Corkus is an awesome character, imo. Him and his band of thieves prior to the hawks. Lighter story, about underdogs maybe.
Still surprised that Grunbeld was the one that got a origin story (and calling it that is fairly generous actually) out of all of the other apostles introduced after Griffith's rebirth.
He was easily the least likeable one and even less interesting of the "newer" apostles. An "honorable" knight attacking a heavily injured Guts and talking shit the whole time.
I'd rather get one about Locus, or Irvine when it comes to the "new" apostles. Hell, having an origin for Skull -Daddy- Knight and Void is something that'd be met with huge fanfare. Both as deuteragonists, everybody would want to read that.
I have a feeling Zodd and Skull Knight will get their back stories elaborated in the actual Manga. But I agree. I think Irvine would have been far more worthy of a side story.
Hell, the fucking Slug Baron's backstiry would be better!
I have a feeling the Miura will want to write Skull Knight's origin himself. Irvine is a good candidate for his own origin novel; but again, I want Miura to write it, not some other guy.

Yeah, Locus is my personal favorite among the new apostles. He's also one of the more unique looking ones. Dude looks like a cross between a centaur and a T-1000.

how to write good story for grunbeld i made up just now:
- Grunbeld is a shitty knight or something
- brunbeld fights to feed his family or some gay shit
- they get killed or something
- one survivor thats like half dead
- trunbeld cant put them out of their misery but the behelit activates
- "I want to breath fire" or some gay one liner
- becomes massive and has an apostle form
- goes back to fight or get revenge or something and everyone makes references to dragons as every city or battle they end up on is completely on fire
- glunbeld finds out the guy that kiled his family is a general he fought for or something
-story ends with grunbeld using his apostle for for the first time to destroy the generals city

I bought the novel in Japanese when it came out for the sake of collecting more berserk not knowing if it'd ever be translated to English. I had low expectations for it but holy hell this sounds horrible. I'm actually thankful I have no way to read my copy

I was doing an assignment in class as I listened to this and I deadass forgot that this was even Berserk related because of how much of a fucking dumpster fire it is.
I wonder how much of this is salvageable, like the writing and Dialog is terrible as is the characterization and... well everything, but I can’t help but wonder how Muira’s very character driven and detailed writing style would work, maybe it’s just me I’d love to see a rewrite or reinterpretation that was a better tragic tale rather than fifty shades of grunbeld

I think the problem with this is that it is pretty typical of Japanese writing as opposed to the writing that we are used to in Berserk. It takes a lot of anime/manga/hentai tropes and stereotypes and shoves them into an interesting story world.
The detail of the debauchery makes it feel like Fukami was trying too hard to copy George RR Martin than expand upon the world crafted by Miura.
George doesn't write shit like this.

The ending of this thing could've been better if it would've resembled a little bit the deal Kratos, from God of War, made with Ares, since Grunbeld liked to fight so much, the author could've made an scenario where Grunbeld was getting his ass handed to him, then he could've activated the behelit and sacrifice his friends to become more powerful

Ugh, that novel was disgusting to hear. This story is an insult to Berserk fans, as if the series is only about edgy shock value and dark perverted fantasies. I had to pause it multiple times while watching this to stomach and process the trash story. It makes me question why I even am a fan. If writers like these are allowed to use the world and characters of Berserk, the series is gonna end up like GOT. And that's a tragic thought.

This is just as violent and fucked up as Berserk can get. The problem is that while the author gets the violence and sex stuff down pat, he was incapable of replicating the emotional and philosophical depth or the characterization of the manga. When you read a comic, you decide how long you want to linger on a panel or a part of a panel, whereas in a book, when the author describes mutilated genitals being like a marine creature, that's what your mind is obviously going to focus on.
For what it's worth, I enjoyed the first third of this book. Is it high-class literature? No. Is it anywhere near as compelling as anything in Berserk? Absolutely not. But I enjoyed it for what it was, however vacuous it might have been. The whole situation with the tutor conversion therapy might've been pretty damn awesome in the hands of a more capable writer, and yeah, I would've liked to have seen better characterization. Also, how they got out, with Kirsten just all of a sudden sending a raid there did seem like a deus ex machina pulled out of the writer's ass at the time. I mean, sure, it's plausible, but maybe could've been set up a bit better.
Middle third I guess was okay, though nothing much noteworthy happens.
Third act was when things just fell apart and it went from entertaining trash to a train-wreck. I mean, did anyone even read this thing before it was sent out? Were any changes made? Did no one ask "Would Edvard really betray his friends like this so suddenly just to impress his Dad who he doesn't really like much?" Or was it just rushed to completion, no revisions, no proofreading, just spewed out as a cash grab?
I love how sexualized sigur gets even tho she was raped and wiped..
I enjoy it... is not perfect...but it is a good tale of an apostle... I hope we can have the novel of each main apostle or hand member...

I don't mean to side with this shitty author, but I think this background story on how he became an apostle works; How it works is how similar grunbeld is to guts in terms of character traits, he is more likely to pick himself back up and keep moving forward as a character and not sacrifice anyone to the god hand and only did so because those he cared for were willing to sacrifice themselves so he could gain greater power, and asked him to sacrifice them, when in truthfulness and another situation he wouldn't have done that.
