We tend to think of Prince as a rock genius but his extraordinary talents show that he really was a jazz musician of the highest order. Don't believe me - ask Miles Davis.
@batlevi2247 :Multi-instrumentalist" is correct. You can be an instrumentalists by having prowess on a single musical instrument. When you play several you are a Multi-instrumentalists.
When Prince was still living a snippet of him playing something bluesy with Maceo was on here. OMG, It sounded so good. They took it down so quick I haven't found it again yet. Man Prince could've been a Mississippi blues man in another life.
My dude PRINCE was all of it! Showman, visionary, vocalist, musician extraordinaire, songwriter, dancer, bandleader, engineer, businessman, producer, arranger, and composer. Great guitar playing and nasty, stanky, bass licks during this performance with the legend Maceo Parker! There will NEVER be another like him!
Manager - the ________ player is out sick Prince - I got it covered. Crazy how he played so many instruments and played them all at a professional level
He dropped the baseline for 777-9311 so clean. You realize that he probably showed the Morris Day and the Time that line and said this is how it's Done.
I play bass. You can tell the way he picks up every instrument with confidence, hes mastered everything. Guitar, bass, keyboards, singing, songwriting. I guarantee there's more but he was crazy. Check out the guitar gently weeps solo.
When I grew up there were only 4 acts that really mattered... (in mainstream music) Prince, David Bowie, Michael Jackson... and the Rolling Stones.... other than that you could get some good Soundgarden or Nirvana if you put the radio on when High school would finish
@@Whistler4u Yeah, well, I studied arranging and orchestration, have a degree in music , play 11 instruments, and have made my living at s a professional musician for half a century, so I'm guessing I'm at least as knowledgable as you. Care to state your credentials? Oh wait -- you're another nobody with zero content. What a surprise.
Well, at that time I was often recording small videos to save my battery for other songs later. But it's a big regret now, that I didn't record a longer video for this part of the concert. Still, I'm happy to share this video, as it would have been selfish to keep it only for myself.
This would have been much more impressive haf Rhonda actually played rhythm guitar behind Prince's bass playing. I'm sure she can play some guitar having the chops to play bass for Prince. But overall most bassist aren't very comfortable on lead guitar. Still, great video. R.I.P Prince.
Morris Hayes having a blast. Ida looking like she is a little frustrated. For those that may not know, the rest of the solo wasn't that great - and I love P yet agree with someone below - have a bass on stage, don't take a band member's bass.
Totally agree. Disrespectful, so he could stroke his ego. If he gave her room to trade licks on the guitar it would have been cool, just play that Nile Rogers chord.
We tend to think of Prince as a rock genius but his extraordinary talents show that he really was a jazz musician of the highest order. Don't believe me - ask Miles Davis.
This isn't talent that relegates itself to one sound; Prince's talent transcended genre itself.
Miles is ded, bro. x
@@stephenry I think you mean "dead". Yes, I know.
I would've thought he was a funk musician more than anything no-one can play the bass like that and be called anything else other than funk.
Miles had a lot of respect for Prince’s talent but NEVER said Prince was a jazz musician because Prince clearly wasn’t.
It’s ridiculous how good he was at every instrument.
I used to think that Prince was only face/voice. But then I discovered that he was a sensational multi-instrumental ..... RIP good sir!!!!!!!
Sensational instrumentalist you mean
he literally played everything on most of his records...
@batlevi2247
:Multi-instrumentalist" is correct. You can be an instrumentalists by having prowess on a single musical instrument. When you play several you are a Multi-instrumentalists.
More than that Prince was a musical prodigy who’s genius & abilities knew no limits
Total multi-talent! Eric Clapton called him the best guitarist in the world after he saw Purple Rain.
That grin at 2:06 is so amazing. What a loss this guy is not here anymore
A lot of people don't realize how funky a bass player Prince was
He can play anything on stage, check him out on drums with Sheila E
You gonk!! 😅😅 Were here because we know how funky he is!!
I knew from his first album
It’s amazing how many guitarists still have no idea he’s an all time great guitarist. It’s like people don’t listen.
I now know lol
he turns into an animal every time he's on bass. I love that !
Agreed. I loved seeing him on bass and drums.
I wish I would have appreciated his talent more when he was alive. Seeing all these videos now has been eye opening. He was a genius.

He was the whole package it will be a long time before we experience the likes of his genius again.
Multi talented and just one of a kind! I remember where I was when I first heard ‘Little Red Corvette’. He is missed.
So interesting that Maceo had a completely unique sound / tome on the Sax. As soon as he starts playing, you know it's him
Of course he plays the funkiest Time bass lines💜💜💜
He wrote em all
@@PirahnaheadDetroit Trust me, we know
Off the charts talent!
Il VIVAIT la musique et la faisait vivre.
Prince sure could put on a show🎶🎵🎶🔥
When Prince takes over your bass ..you know that you are in trouble
Exactly!
Not if you can take over the guitar and the music plays on.
Well, when he took over drums for Sheila E. she would at least take over singing.
Manager - the ________ player is out sick
Prince - I got it covered.
Crazy how he played so many instruments and played them all at a professional level
Awesome! And I Wonder does anyone have another section of this video? He was going into "Head" bass line at the end when it cut off....
Simply incredible..... 💜💜💜💜💜👑
Unique , Prince forever ♥️
You would never see Michael Jackson pull off something like this. That's why Prince is the real deal
Oooooh Yeah!!! My Fav!!!!Soooo Funky!!
There's Cool, and then there's Prince! None so Cool than this BMF!
I love this.
That is a real music !!!
Fr!
miss him so much

It is sad to say, but we couldn’t have these videos if he was still alive :( His music and all these videos became accessible after his death…
Too me a sec to figure out what he was doing but when I did, solid, solid, solid musical logic from Prince.
Intouchable !
That's just cold blooded!💯💯💯💜💜💜
godlike
Prince. Maybe the best guitar player !
"o cara é foda patroa"

Genio
It's always interesting to see how people are taken in by the most mundane playing as long as it's done with charisma.
Yeah Prince is really mundane. Ignorance is bliss.

Sure sounds like it!
It's actually "The Stick" from the first Time album.
Porque o Prince está tocando a musica ILÊ AYE do Gilberto Gil ?
Sounds like a helicopter 🙌🏾
why did prince play the bass in my face😒
He wrote must of the song on the Times first album
I think Cool was written or co-written by Dez Dickerson, and the Stick was co-written by Lisa Coleman.
И в чём преееелесть сия шедевра???
jack of all trades...master of none
Eric Clapton was once asked "what's it like being the world's greatest guitar player" ?
He replied " I dunno, ask prince".

He was not that good on playing the bass......
He’s so much better than this example...
Dead!!
