Boulders can no longer fall near or on structures. Update: They now do but you can now reinforce the ceiling to prevent that from happening in an area using new pillars that you get the blueprint for from the Ancient Guardian.
These updates give me major terraria vibes, almost like they’re making cc and ancient fuelweaver a sort of wall of flesh, a way to put tons of very difficult content behind a skill and gear barrier. I mean, the same can even be said for the nightmare werepig, where you need ruins-tier gear to even fight the guy.

While I haven’t played much of the update content yet, I feel like the problems presented in this video could be solved by allowing you to enhance armor and weapons with planar damage instead of making new ones. They could also buff the special armor’s set bonuses to make them more desirable from converted weapons, but the player will always be able to use what they want and still be effective.

My friends find the plants annoying but I like them enough, though sometimes it feels like the weapons that ONLY deal planar damage don't function and just refuse to damage normal enemies or critters like butterfly's (though perhaps that was fixed). I am admittedly not as well versed on the balancing of don't starve so I can't comment on armor protection and durability (even less so when it comes to the planar effects) but for what is supposed to be post game armor I am surprised that it doesn't reduce total damage by 90%? like, I get that its much easier to make compared to something like thulicite or marble but I feel like it should still reduce damage by at least a little more than a football helmet, maybe allow an increased damage reduction if you're using an alignment weapon (or something like a dark sword or moonglass tool). also on a side note, I think it would be interesting if they made the armors and tools opposites, like, the lunar armor looks more tough and durable so its more defensive, while the void armor looks' more sneaky and lethal so its more offensive, I dunno something like that to me would be cool. additionally If they are going to add alignments to each character, I hope they add uniqe effects that match each each faction, going with my offensive vs defensive ideas: shadow Wolfgang, or Wigfrid could deal much more damage but maybe are more vulnerable when insane or illuminated, while lunar Wendy or webber, might get defensive bonuses from using lunar spiders or fighting at night, something like that. I definitely hope that Wilsons abilities are so lukewarm because he is meant to be the "default" character and as such you mostly choose a side for the crafting recipe's (I am also 90% sure walter is ONLY going to get new ammo and nothing else because he is an unfinished character). I additionally curious what will happen to completely neutral characters like Wortox, how will them choosing a side be rationalized, or, will it just be a gameplay thing? how will the gorge and forge events matter to the greater story now that we HAVE a newly fixed portal? I'm honestly excited to see what will come of all this, I kind of hope we get some more creepy designs, maybe a mouth that bites you or something like that. also one last thing, how do you modify the texture on the void cowl for modded characters? Not that I plan to develop my own mod soon but since I had not seen anyone do it yet I was wondering what needed to be changed to enable that.
Once they rebalance the gear they better also do that for acid rain which is very ignorable right now and either remove the boulders altogether or make so they actually damage the player a lot and shatter on impact so you dont need to clean up hundreds of them every year if you live in the caves
In my oppinion i think void armor is bad because to get it you need to kill the Ancient FuelWeaver a really hard boss that also has really good lot and the bone armor he drops lets you tank a hit every 5 seconds and by the time you are good enough to fight him you most likely are good enough to dodge attacks so if you avoid an attack after tanking a hit with the bone armor you will be basicly inmortal and this is BEFORE getting the portal repaired and fighting those new enemys.
that's a really good point, bone armour is still my preferred too the only practical use for the armour is to complete the set with scythe, kinda lame tbh
@@paxtonl1330 Yeah but that will not make me and many other people want to drop off there backpack for something that cannot expand the very limited inventory . In games like Terraria you do not need a backpack because your inventory is massive were in DST a backpack is mandatory
I don't think these updates will affect me much personally since I never fight Ancient Fuelweaver or the Celestial Champion, and I don't feel the need to turn on the rifts in my settings. It'll be cool to watch people who are good at the game do stuff with it though.
I'm not sure the other characters will get full skill trees, I really wouldn't put it past Klei to add them but it's just the alignment and nothing else. As for characters like Wanda and Walter, I really do think they will get planar damage options later on, locked behind alignment. It would also be interesting if certain alignments were just objectively better on certain characters, with the shadows possibly being stronger on characters who are a bit more malicious or in search of strength while the lunar forces focus on more curious characters who have more to gain from enlightenment.
I spent some time cave basing in the Terrors Below beta, and I can say that it wasn't that bad. I was able to consistently run during an earthquake so that all the boulders landed pretty close together. Free rocks! The acid rain didn't really give me much trouble either. I just slapped a raincoat on and called it a day. Plus, taking some chip damage from it wasn't the end of the world, either. Easy enough to slam pierogi and be fine. It Did end up costing me my life when it started acid raining during combat, so there's still that. All in all, the new challenges weren't too bad to handle, still preferable to wildfires imo.
I have a feeling some kind of new big boss(es) will be coming soon that require or at least seriously incentivize the use of these new armor and weapon sets. It's the whole light vs. dark chess game playing out. Some kind of Charlie vs. Them endgame, I imagine.
I think very simply, planar damage is just a second damage type. its not that confusing (at least from what I can understand. Maybe people are leaving things out, idk)
They should add mobs with planar damage in the early game because it's way too easy to craft one or two football helmets and basically become invincible
I think Don't Starve has kinda turned obsolete? Like I feel it's in the same spot as Minecraft where they're just updating it just because there's not much else to do and there's enough of a fanbase who will play more. Unless they kill Walter and add Wheeler into Don't Starve Together, I think I'm just going to leave this game be and player a better brutally challenging survival game with a mysterious story. Like Rain World. I'm going to go download Downpour.
I cant say i like a lot of this update. I know a lot of it will be changed/tweaked to be less inconvenient and assnine but, as it stands, its just annoying. Besides the constant griefing and plain unfair damage of the mobs, it just doesnt make any sense for the characters to have am option to pick their own alignment. Woodie is a lycanthrope of sorts, he transforms during the full moon, so shouldnt he be locked to lunar affinity? how about wanda and maxwell, clear shadowmancers in their own regard, what do they have to do with the moon again? (besides maxwell's connection with charlie, that is). All character getting their own skill trees sounds absolutely awesome and it makes so that 2 players who picked the same character can enjoy having different perks (like WX in a way), but i really hope they add something more to wilson, because even if no one can recreate what he does, i still would feel like it would take his coolest perk and make it not-so-special.
to be fair in defense of Wanda she ONLY uses shadow magic because it was what was available to her, and she does show interest in moon gear and items, even wishing that she could merge the two sides for her own gain.
Ill be fully honest despite all the new content being added I haven't really felt a need to touch the game again since the Woodie update. Every update focusing on bringing characters up to snuff with custom crafting recipes mostly just meant a lot of updates would up not being very relevant to me unless it somehow affected my own character and playstyle. Hearing in the future every character might get some sort of skill tree does make me hopeful, it would make me pick up the game again and try different builds with Woodie. But as is, in terms of survival games, Don't Starve becoming a lil more complex and less static in terms of how its meant to be played is nice. I've been playing a lot of Project Zomboid lately as my new go-to survival game, and it honestly does a way better job of focusing on hunger and survival than Don't Starve while still having some unique complexities to it that make it way more replayable. It also has a way more varied character building system, so if Don't Starve can bring some of that in to its base characters, that would really get me invested to play again!
Great thoughts on the topic of the 2 updates, but I would disagree on some of them. Here are some of mine. Perhaps I will edit the comment if something else didn't cross my mind. - the most stupid aspect of the update is the brightshades. They are good enemies but nevertheless you can't escape nor prevent them once the rifts are open. - as you already pointed it out the new armors are really wack. Giving up your head and bodyslot for the effects doesn't cut it. Although I like the idea of the shadow reaper being a real kitingweapon, if it weren't for the armor you have to wear - the price for the new gear is also a mixed bag. Some of the stuff (especially the shadowside) is dirt-cheap and the lunarcontent extremely expensive. You can craft 9 Shadowreapers from 1 Outcrop, but in some cases with the lunar-gestalt-waves just 1 Brightshadesword. - I really like the hybridtools: the idea of more efficient tools with more uses while just occupying 1 inventoryslot is genius. Except for the shoevel. It doesn't have any good use. If you are shoveling or tilting something, you always do it in great numbers. The cost doesn't justify the uses, especially that these actions can't be more efficient, because it is a 1-use-action. It just pales in comparison to the new hammer wich does the job in less swings, you don't need it that often and therefore justifies the increased durability. - then there is also the unbalanced sides of the new craftingtables. The shadowside just has 4 new gear, but the lunar content basically twice the amount - everything else in the update like the acid rain was actually something I really enjoy. Especially the rain isn't as aggressive as you point it out to be (well in the beta it was, don't know when your research started on the topic). Having a way to farm nitre was a wish that now came true. - the scrapbook is kinda a step in the right direction. Still like you said, it is really annoying with the pop-up and there is information missing. - the planar fighting is something to wrap your mind about it but I do think it has potential. Making new mobs that are more robust to a ordinary weapon like the dark sword is a really good idea. If not the enemy's would just have more health and therefore more tanky. And with the new weapons the devs don't have to make something that outclasses the dark sword and would shred basic mobs +++ sitting in-game 10/10 would recommend
i wonder if something would change about the character depending on what side they choose or at least a different skin for them like shadow weapon or moon wormwood
I doubt there will be any physical changes since they otherwise can't make skins based off that (like they already have) but I do hope that Mechanically they are distinct.
@@iguessthisismyworkaccountl8437 ya like a moon side webber could have the shattered spiders spike attack thing or a shadow willow could have shadow fire or something
Feedback: the new outro music absolutely rules. I like the RGB gone into rainbow. I wonder, does filming in cam feel like it restricts your creative process? Maybe make editing easier with less animation?
glad you like it! the editing isn't really easier or harder, there's less keyframing involved but I have to do a lot of rotobrushing (ai assisted rotoscoping) for the greenscreen sections which takes a decent bit of time
the new direction dst has been heading really smells of terraria-like progression... defeat boss, get stronger armor and weapon to defeat next boss with, repeat til the end. Its not necessarily bad, i love terraria, but its not don't starve-like either. All of the old gear we ever got has felt unconventional and had certain charms, in example, the weather pain does use boss drops, but its not just a generic magic staff or a sword, its a freaking wind wane made from goat horns and other stuff, or the hambat, iconic, powerful, versatile, made from a leg of ham. IMO we really didnt have the need for 2 MORE crafting stations for the magic and celestial tabs respectively, we literally coulve used shadow manipulator/pseudoscience for the shadow crafts or the celestial tab for the *celestial* crafts. The armor does look cool (aside form the dreadstone one, seriously who'd use that) but it doesnt feel like the style of dont starve either, its just generic fantasy shadow/light armor. I think this kind of content really is just bloating the game without any real substance. The acid rain is cool, needlessly annoying, but it atleast FEELS like dont starve.
I like the update and the direction that game's taking. got it? taking. like TAKING ROOT! ahahahahaha. whatever, game's going to be bigger, and Klei're going to add new much more powerful enemys and bosses. so, we'll have to see how it's gonna go
So like im never touching stuff in this update in particular, super late game which is hard for a semi-noob like me, and also this is the most confusing shit ever.

i wish the brightshades spawned in groups of only 2, and the Acid Rain Got Reworked Completly
nice editing laddie, it went up in quality huge amount!
Nice to see you. The new style of the vid is great.
Holy. He became a flatscreen TVs in real life
Once they rebalance the gear they better also do that for acid rain which is very ignorable right now and either remove the boulders altogether or make so they actually damage the player a lot and shatter on impact so you dont need to clean up hundreds of them every year if you live in the caves
In my oppinion i think void armor is bad because to get it you need to kill the Ancient FuelWeaver a really hard boss that also has really good lot and the bone armor he drops lets you tank a hit every 5 seconds and by the time you are good enough to fight him you most likely are good enough to dodge attacks so if you avoid an attack after tanking a hit with the bone armor you will be basicly inmortal and this is BEFORE getting the portal repaired and fighting those new enemys.
that's a really good point, bone armour is still my preferred too
the only practical use for the armour is to complete the set with scythe, kinda lame tbh
@@FreddoFilms They plan to rework the armor or at least their set bonuses, so here’s to hoping they make the sets become more interesting
@@paxtonl1330 Yeah but that will not make me and many other people want to drop off there backpack for something that cannot expand the very limited inventory . In games like Terraria you do not need a backpack because your inventory is massive were in DST a backpack is mandatory
"Don't Starve is a game " - Films, Freddo
I just hope the next update will help things not feel flat and pointless but I trust Klei with their game
Blud thinks he pyrocynical💀
Intro sounds like the YT video essay version of the paragraph before internet recipes.
lmaoooo
You called it, aperrently they are making skill trees for everyone
Rifts are supposed to not have a map icon. When the nightmare phase is at its weakest you can't even see them when you're standing next to them.
I don't think these updates will affect me much personally since I never fight Ancient Fuelweaver or the Celestial Champion, and I don't feel the need to turn on the rifts in my settings. It'll be cool to watch people who are good at the game do stuff with it though.
this video is soo good I watched it to the end with no boring
I'm not sure the other characters will get full skill trees, I really wouldn't put it past Klei to add them but it's just the alignment and nothing else. As for characters like Wanda and Walter, I really do think they will get planar damage options later on, locked behind alignment. It would also be interesting if certain alignments were just objectively better on certain characters, with the shadows possibly being stronger on characters who are a bit more malicious or in search of strength while the lunar forces focus on more curious characters who have more to gain from enlightenment.
Everything looks great visually as always
Dude, I doubt Newbs are going to be getting anywhere this. They just trying to make it through Winter...
I didn't mention 'newbs' at all in this video, aside from the scrapbook. the new content is very late game and not geared towards them at all
a freddo films video finally
I think very simply, planar damage is just a second damage type. its not that confusing (at least from what I can understand. Maybe people are leaving things out, idk)
They should add mobs with planar damage in the early game because it's way too easy to craft one or two football helmets and basically become invincible
they should just give planar damage to shadow creatures and gestalts tbh
@@iguessthisismyworkaccountl8437 I don't know about gestalts but it'd be a good idea for nightmare creatures since insanity isn't punishing enough
@@PanagiotisPolitis-bl9xj gestalts aren't threatening either so lunacy also needs to be more dangerous
@@iguessthisismyworkaccountl8437 Just use planar damage more because armour makes you invincible
@@PanagiotisPolitis-bl9xj yeah
I wish there was a turf or a fertilizer that prevents deadly brightshades from spawning.
So I literally just picked up Don't Starve Together again.
I'm considering dropping it like it's hot again 😭
I love the new stop motion like graphics!
much appreciated
Hi! I'm new here, vid just randomly got recommended, but it's nicely made and I really enjoyed it!
when you say *was* a big deal, does that mean it isn't a big deal anymore now?
Oh it actually is coming down to this.
Finally, sitting but not in floor
With the emote you can sit on the floor
Nice video! Deserves more views and subs :D
I hope they do do the skill tree for everyone and I wonder what it will look like
Yes
i hope they wont
Great thoughts on the topic of the 2 updates, but I would disagree on some of them.
Here are some of mine. Perhaps I will edit the comment if something else didn't cross my mind.
- the most stupid aspect of the update is the brightshades. They are good enemies but nevertheless you can't escape nor prevent them once the rifts are open.
- as you already pointed it out the new armors are really wack. Giving up your head and bodyslot for the effects doesn't cut it. Although I like the idea of the shadow reaper being a real kitingweapon, if it weren't for the armor you have to wear
- the price for the new gear is also a mixed bag.
The shadowside just has 4 new gear, but the lunar content basically twice the amount
- everything else in the update like the acid rain was actually something I really enjoy.
And with the new weapons the devs don't have to make something that outclasses the dark sword and would shred basic mobs
+++ sitting in-game 10/10 would recommend
Pretty cool video... 🎉
so overworld endgame and caves endgame whats next can we go into the portals?
or maybe the chair will take you somewhere
Top tier content GJ.
Loved this video !!!
i wonder if something would change about the character depending on what side they choose or at least a different skin for them like shadow weapon or moon wormwood
Maybe make editing easier with less animation?
glad you like it!
the editing isn't really easier or harder, there's less keyframing involved but I have to do a lot of rotobrushing (ai assisted rotoscoping) for the greenscreen sections which takes a decent bit of time
Great video freddo!
Don't Starve is becoming Terraria.
NO ONE CAN CHANGE MY MIND!
lol i love the new gear for the terrors below
Vox.. is that you?!
the new direction dst has been heading really smells of terraria-like progression... defeat boss, get stronger armor and weapon to defeat next boss with, repeat til the end. The acid rain is cool, needlessly annoying, but it atleast FEELS like dont starve.
yeah it's very terraria-esque, I admittedly am not a super big fan of the generic high fantasy theme either
Im just gonna say it
Taking root ost > Terrors below ost
Another banger
The costume is 💯😍
Still haven't forgiven Klei
I'm more of a Siegmeyer of Catarina kinda guy my self 10:30
5:44 they were talking about long pig, not the lunar stuff, extremely misleading
I like the update and the direction that game's taking.
got it? taking.
like TAKING ROOT! ahahahahaha.
whatever, game's going to be bigger, and Klei're going to add new much more powerful enemys and bosses.
so, we'll have to see how it's gonna go
"but dst is now watered down" based.
The scrapbook isnt nearly as obnoxious anymore, it doesnt make sounds and only seems to pop up for rare things
Yippee new video.
"Videogames have updates" yeah right... Tell that to

So like im never touching stuff in this update in particular, super late game which is hard for a semi-noob like me, and also this is the most confusing shit ever.
I miss the days of solo don't starve being like "fuck you git gud and learn how to survive yourself" and how death was part of the learning process, I'm so glad dst and ds are separate, for some reason the more the game gets updated the more settings I have to turn off when creating a world
No Freddo, they never stated that every characters will have skill trees for the love of god and this does not prove it.
On the contrary, Klei already stated that characters will NOT have skill trees but will bee aligned in other terms.
So suck it, approvers of terrible design :P
be nice, also developers can change their minds so really anything is on the table.

I am still confused on planar damage
mood
Basically: its Damage that goes through armor, but cannot be changed by Damage Modifiers (so Wendy and Wes cant do less damage, but Wolfgang and Warly Spices cant do more damage!)
ofcourse being a cave man with rock armor is better
Hello. I am able to smell if someone is cringe, even through a screen, and you are not cringe. Have a nice day.
Also I'm unsure why I watch your DST vids when I don't have DST, so consider yourself charismatic or something.
Don’t starve is a video game
Wtf a 10% change in damage isnt a big deal??
An additional 10% PERMANENT damage lol
Add that to something that's wet while you're using a morning star, that's then 60% more damage in total.
Then throw in Warly's Chili flakes, which gives you another 20%.
All for a grand total of 80% additional damage
it's only against mobs of the opposing faction, and generally doesn't matter because everything still dies in the same # of hits
