Why is it have to be Auto lock on at all? Let us lock on manually damnit

My pro strat against the Shriekers is to just ignore them and destroy the nests first there’s no point ever in actually shooting them if your in range of their nests especially since they just tickle you I haven’t died from them yet because just run and run guys
Wish you would try orbital gatling barrage
I find the idea of a bug that lives in a bug house in a bug neighbourhood offensive

This is hilarious lmao
it's social housing, the polar opposite of democracy
You also didn’t see the hotels they live in 😂
"If you lie down, the shrieker can't hit you"
Random charger: "what's happening here?"
"what are we hiding from?"
Funfact: shriekers actually do very little damage, but the reason they can somehow take us out is because of their velocity, if their bodies collide with us then we get taken out just like when a bile titan lands on top of us when it goes down. One solution is to simply duck and dive, making it impossible for them to body us. Another way to simply run away from them while firing back, if you do this then you'll start to group them up in single file and make them much easier to deal with. Running towards them all but guarantees that you will get bodied by them, running away from them makes them miss you when they dive.
flying chargers can't hurt you. they're not real.

shrieker's actual attack: like 1/5th of your hp
shrieker's corpse: literal 1 shot through shield

Like that scene in starship troopers
I don’t mind enemy bodies having actual weight so that just touching you even if dead can hurt. I do think its fucking janky as hell and a little over tuned when you shoot a flying bug, that’s assumedly pretty lightweight to support their ability to fly, and their bodies pearl harbor the fuck out of you.
I once killed three teammates with a single shrieker corpse. They're so pissed off they nuke the nest even though it's already destroyed for four times before logging off.
ive been getting one shot by there actual attack could just be a collision bug tho
what would hurt more? a tiny claw going fast or its entire weight + speed hitting you full force in the chest
I laughed so hard at the spear targeting the shriekers but not their nest. How do they make a real-life weapon so utter dogshit.
Better off just using the hellbomb when at the nest.
Yeah i really like to use the Spear. But the amount of times that lock-on goes to shite and i can't hit the broad side of a barn at point blank range is insane.
The developers continue to shit in our mouth without offering a napkin…
TBH i'm more amazed that the spear locked on at all, the number of times i'm on a mountain, aiming down at a bot-factory or charger and the lock on simply refuses to appear or goes yellow, shrinks ALMOST to green, then expands never-to-reappear is uncountable.
At this point i'd rather just have a proper wire-guided TOW missile system system.

Hey. Thanks for actually testing stuff and showing clear evidence/data. The amount of misinformation the community likes to throw out in this game is insane.
Dissidents against freedom and [managed] democracy...
One big thing I think people are often missing with Shrieker nests, distance. This may need more testing, but everytime we've done an EAT or Recoiless from far away, you can kill the nests before any spawn. There's a range before they start blocking the skies full of wings and hell. So, if you spawn in, you see it in the distance, kill em from afar. No point in running up risking strikes if you have Anti-tank stuff that can snipe em from miles away.
~127 meters is when they start spawning
LASER CANNON
@@ostarakonrad9907 or maybe autocannon lol
biggest problem with that is how tanky the nest structures are, that combined with the range (higher chance of missing) means you are expending a lot of resurces to take them down
@@paths7969It's show in the video it only takes 2 EAT's or recoiless. It's really not as difficult as it seems, you get a lot of leeway with where you can hit the towers.
The 380 and 120 would be a lot nicer if they came with a single guaranteed hit on the exact location of the beacon somewhere in the barrage.
That way if you want to use it you can all but guarantee a hit against atleast one target and everything after is a nice bonus.
This 100%
Or at least target the big ass objects we are trying to hit. Like, does the destroyer crew not have a zoom function on their optics?

Or have the radius of the barrage decrease with each successive strike as they make targeting adjustments after each round.
@@EndSchneider The destroyer crew were probably those unfit to be Helldivers... So it makes sense
Thanks for the testing. At work for 11 hours today, breaking necks and writing checks. But you’re giving me needed intel for tonight’s operations. SP time 2000 for me boys.
Always love how comedic these test vids sometimes.
The Spear part is peak.
I like your username and pfp, they're really cute!
"Why can the autocannon do it but not the grenade launcher" Unless I'm wrong I thought the autocannon had some penetration ability. The armour on these nests just proves that armour penetration is on a scale rather than simply light-med-heavy. The MG support weapon doesn't penetrate but the HMG emplacement does.
So it's in between charger armour and hive guard armour.
Did grenade launcher actaully ever penetrate armor? I thought all they did was do explosive damage which bypasses armor
the AC is med-pen, the GL is light/no-PEN but if you land them under or next to something armoured their explosion can do some damage, the GL projectiles will BOUNCE off pretty much everything including the floor . it needs a little love like an unsafe mode (no minimum range fuse) or to at least detonate when within 10-15 degrees of the perpendicular to a surface (tho an extra reload wouldn't go amiss either).
Comparing HMG emplacement with MG is a bit of an apples vs oranges case. HMG emplacement stats are actually pretty close to anti-material rifle. Two shots hulks in the face for example.
A lot like how the autocannon turret is quite a bit more powerful than the support weapon autocannon. The turret will just blast chargers to dust.
My first experience with shriekers was shooting one while 2 teammates were waiting for a resupply and watching its corpse drop on them for a double kill. Love that something light enough to fly is somehow also heavy enough to one shot you via gravity
What's the gravity on the planet you were on? Have you calculated HOW heavy one is and how fast it's moving via gravitational pull? Smh
The gravity is the same on all planets. You dive the same distance when in boot camp on Super Earth as you do on any mission planet.
Out of curiosity, I threw "largest flying animal ever" into Google and got Quetzalcoatlus northropi, an extinct pterosaur that was estimated to weigh up to 200kg. That's basically an upright piano, and while Helldivers IS very Looney Tunes at times, I'm still pretty sure a falling piano can kill you.
@@gogeta667gravity is literally the same, u dive the same distance on any planet, what are you on about. and if a charger charging at me full tilt doesn’t kill me, a flying bug will? make it make sense
@@temtempo13 Also getting clipped by a toenail will kill you. I'd prefer them to be hollow paper kites, but I'd also settle for them just not one-shotting you though a full-health bubble shield.
3:10 Sums up the SPEAR god damn I can't traget that stationary building but I can target flying mobs?
I assume the devs modeled the Autocannon ammo as a High Explosive Dual Purpose where the grenades have less explosive mass but has some armor penetration capabilities, where as the Grenade Launcher has pure High Explosive grenades where they have larger explosive radius but cannot penetrate armor at all.
That is exactly it, the grenade launcher has next nothing for AP.
Either APHE or SAPHE or MPHE
Grenade launchers traditionally bounce off walls and structures in video games.
Worse the GL projectiles BOUNCE off ANY enemy armour so even a hit directly perpendicular to the armour is likely to end up back at your own feet.
The GL really needs a little love in terms of its ricochet characteristics, damned thing is a menace to the user more than the enemy.
It's dumb. Anything that works on bug holes should work on this too.
Also the flamethrower realistically should work on it.
I think the nests are a bit too tanky, when you can kill the Spore launcher with just one EAT or two grenades. You're having to deal with at least 3 nests at a time, with all the shriekers which can all rapidly converge on your position and one-shot you. I think swapping the Spore launcher's durability with the Shrieker's would be fair, as if anything one solitary objective should be a little sturdier.
And these things could be devastating if they're already covered by spores, I don't even know if they can spawn together.
TBH i'd happily see the spore next a tad tankier, it's easier to kill than the broadcast tower RN as it's big n super fragile.
As to the shrieker nests they take a little too much ordinance given they start spamming waved of 1-shot kill fliers (dead mores so than alive) from 2-3 times the range most orbitals can be thrown from.
that would be like not allowing people to hurt the stalker until it decides to make itself visible.
Same, I'd want the spore tankier. A single missile from any distance shouldn't clear a subobjective like that. There's already the fascist tower you can destroy with a single grenade (or by baiting a charger into it), we don't need more toddler objectives.
People don't realize that struggling creates more engaging/fun situations than stuff you can clear in one click.
@@ipatchymakouli415 if you want to struggle, go on automatons, at least expert diff and try getting any sample.
I've encountered both spore spewers and shrieker nests on the same map, but pretty far away from each other.
@@ipatchymakouli415 Oh yeah, because we don't have enough things to shoot at.
that HMG emplacement was actually pretty effective
They really gotta fix the collision damage, the dead bodies are more of a threat than the actual enemy
On a bile titan or a charger it makes sense, on a flying bugs not so much
@@nicolaspeigne1429 i mean the bug could weight 150kg, there were once flying animals above the 200kg threshold, so when falling it could certainly kill you, while they are alive they won't try to collide with you directly so they deal less damage
@@Tom199904100 it should deal damage, but you should survive at least some of the time
@@Tom199904100and yet a charger hitting you full speed won't kill you, the problem here is consistency
@@daveash9146 I don't think so, the charger goes maybe 1/3 of the speed of a fully thrown Shrieker, so it is logical that it only does half HP
Let's not forget that it is only a game, and that even if it is not following the IRL physics exactly it is something along those lines but with the need of making things balanced
The pigeon can be killed in 2 shots with almost any weapon, you can crawl so they will always miss you, or destroy their colonies from very far away with any rocket launcher type of weapon or the laser beam one, that I find pretty effective
I do not understand the design logic behind shieder nest.
5 grenade? 2 rockets? grenade launcher does no damage? What the fuck is this bullshit.
Shriekers feel like the developers' not-so-subtle way of telling us, "you should be diving/going prone more"
Yeah, those 20 hunters, 3 stalkers, 2 chargers and a bile titan 2m behind me would agree
A hunter wrote this comment
live hunter reaction
The gist basically
They start spawning from when you reach within 127m from them
Robot: 2 rockets
Recoiless: 2 rockets
EAT: 2 rockets
Impact grenades: 5 grenades
Combos:
Recoiless & 4 Autocannon shots
2 Gas strikes & 2 grenades
1 EAT & 6 full charge rail gun shots
1 EAT & 3 grenades
Hellbomb: Clears all but must be deployed at center
HMG Emplacement: Around 7 seconds of continuous shooting
Laser cannon: around 8 seconds of sustained fire (or an entire charge)
Anti-material: 3 mag rounds (as shown in video, tho inconclusive)
Spear: Goodluck 😂
Eagle and orbital, yes if it hits (only for ones that destroy buildings)
Dropping supplies/reinforcements: Results may vary from 1-3 pods
I'll add that Quasar's take 2 shots as well, so they probably do about the same as the rockets.
Hahaha, The new flying monsters are so annoying.
OhDough i was in d9 helldive, and omg 9 shrieker hotels all right next to each other, we got slaughtered we couldn't get to them since none of us were kitted to take em on, ended up w/ 40+ shriekers in the air, ~30ish hunters (they came in droves it was so weird), basically 50+ enemies on the ground, the sky was covered in shriekers each of us had at least 4-5 diving on us at any given moment and the sky was still covered with em
Yeah my opinion the game is fucking ruined
@@AdornByFire why does that ruin the game for you? I think this is way better than just getting 10 bile titans spawned on you in every bug breach. Now, Helldive difficulty feels like you're actually getting swarmed by bugs and it makes the gameplay way more rewarding IMO. It feels epic when the whole screen is filled with bugs of all sizes and you just mow' em down with the democracy-spreading implement of your choice. You need people with anti-armour and anti-infantry support weapons now, it's all good. They just need to fix some balancing and stability issues, otherwise this game is damn near perfect.
Sounds just like a tyranids invasion in 40k. Gosh I love this game xD
@@AdornByFire Why? Because charging into them with no plan ends up screwing you over? Dealt with a bunch the last few days... a couple people dropping with EATs or one guy with Recoilless and you are fine. Hell, drop a resupply next to the Recoilless guy, wear his backpack for a second, and you can take out 2 full nests (6 homes) in about 30 seconds with no spawns at the cost of one resupply drop.
@@AdornByFire No its quite fun, and more so w/ the new challenges. Solo shriekers are priority 1 over stalkers (for me). anti tank, recoilless are good options take 2 shots to bring em down. Don't get within 130m of shrieker nest and u should be fine, snipe em at range. My squad and I engaged shrieker nests last night at 500m and pushed closer to them completing objectives last one we took out was around 280m ez to deal w/ but a time waster unless ur making ur way to other targets and sparing any extra shots on the nests. The cure is prevention not engagement.
Can confirm hitting all 3 with an airstrike, can also confirm hitting none of them with an airstrike. Also Orbital Laser can take atleast 2 but i havent tested 3, and the Walking has the same problem as the 380 but if it hits it works.

These testing videos are great! The included deaths and other funny moments are a great addition 😂
So what i’ve effectively learned from this video is, apart from the obvious ofcourse, you can just prone and the shriekers cant get you. Doesnt matter on top of their nests or on the flat ground 😅
They can still hit you but less frequent + less dmg. I stayed flat on top of a rock next to extract throwing down airstrikes and grenades for straight up 3 minutes while 10+ of them constantly swoop down and attack me. I figure if I ran out of stims then that will be it. Would still be alive if my mates had not nuked my position though 😂
@@duongtieuta223 its baffling how many nukes it takes to take the shrieker’s nest down
the corpses being insta kill rockets is a serious blunder, I could hardly believe it when I first encountered it.
I thought it was super funny the first time it happened. It quickly became annoying when it lead to 7 deaths through out the mission.
It's excessive the ragdolls are functioning like a physics object that does a crush death at even the slightest brush, given the quantity of them it spits out. Imagine if Hunter ragdolls instantly killed you for shooting them out of the air midjump when they want to spawn 20 of them on us each enemy wave. It's funny the first time, frustrating when it happens 4 more times after that from teammates 'saving you' by killing ones trying to go at your blind spots- this game gets you into unrecoverable death cascades so easily. I'd be fine with it being the same damage as a normal attack mind you, it's still you getting hit by a flung physics object after all but it also just doesn't feel fair or fun when the thing is slowly rolling on the ground and the tiniest tip of a wing grazes your foot so you just explode instantly from it.
The autocannon stonks keeps going up. 😂 Making it the most versatile weapon in the game.
That, but also lascannon best in class for something? Holy crap!
Something eerie about seeing those nest in the distance
Yeah... Not very natural to have aerial oil factories...
One thing that's been working pretty well for me is the walking barrage, don't need to get too close, just line up your throw with the nest and let the arty do the rest. It's far more accurate than the 380mm
I got all three with the 500kg bomb just have to be dead center
I think the nests have vehicle armor. It's like the riot shield which is also classed as vehicle armor. It's pretty much the same armor value as heavy but certain weapons can't hurt it. Tanks turret's have vehicle armor so the auto cannon doesn't bounce but the JAR will. Even though they both will bounce off a charger's armor.
All energy weapon's minus the ARK shotgun will damage this as well. They might take forever but they will still be able to damage shreaker nests
The shrieker nests take way too much ammo to destroy, considering they are clumped in 3s all the time.
A rocket each would still require 2 people or an additional EAT drop to clear, and that's just if you have the luck to be on a map where you can see them from beyond 127m where they start spawning mobs that onehit-kill you THROUGH SHIELD with their dead bodies.
Each nest I think takes a full mag, or close to with auto-canon. So about 30ish rounds
stopped caring about how many hmg shots it would take to kill a nest and kept watching cuz this dudes a damn comedian , take my sub
dude i saw the thumbnail and i thought it said shrek lair and i was genuinely excited thinking there was going to be a shrek crossover with helldivers. i thought shrek was gonna be a boss, or slike a ridable patriot exosuit or we wpuld get the dragon and donkey as an airstrike or something. very dissapointed
Shraykers
So the Spear can lock on to the nest but the issue is it needs to have a clear LoS to the base of the tower. Obviously this isn't always possible but there are some cases where that part shows.
This is the most important Helldivers video right now. Thank you for your service!
I think the autocannon wins, it has the range to hit from outside their spawn radius, and the ammo to take down the whole lair. Sure that is quite some time reloading, so it isn't going to be a great plan if you aren't in control of your immediate area, but since you can do it from range, you can get away from all threats, kill any bugs that follow you, and then take the minute to get it done. If you get close, any air strikes that are good for killing buildings will do, air strikes, 500kg, precision strikes etc. will do.
With a buddy help reloading..
This video is great, not only for the research but the entertainment also. 😂
when i found the nests, it wouldn't give me the hellbomb stratagem

This game's armor mechanic is such a dumpster fire. Something can be killed by certain weapon and some can't.
I like that you're saying it 2 different ways just in case 😂 gave me a good chuckle, soooo. Liked and subbed.
recoilless rifle hitting the stalk kills it in one, 2 if hitting the top blooms.
This just highlights pretty much everything wrong with this game man. This is the most inconsistant mess i've ever seen.
So grenades can do it, but grenade launcher cant. Autocannon can do it too.
Takes two missiles of any kind of kill ONE spawner, out of at least 3.
Ok, so one may argue that they *want* these to be a complete pain in the ass to remove, right? Would be unreasonable, but might be a valid opinion.
But then, for some reason there is the sniper rifle which can kill this with a couple mags from complete safety. Compared to the other options, spending a supply drop on a nest is reasonable.
And then there is the scorcher that just acts like the pigeon knocking the chess pieces over and shitting all over the board, by killing each with 4 shots. Just for reference, it takes 5 to kill a shroom, which grenade launchers and everything else listed above can absolutely wipe the floor with by using far less ammunition.
Balance? Please? Anybody? This is just wrong. What the absolute hell is this mess? Who even still defends this crappy game design at this point? ._.
Man this makes me glad we quit recently after capping every ressource in the game and having nothing to unlock anymore. Kinda feel like we played where the game was at its best.
Dont get me wrong. I loved my time. But it just got worse the more they release and tweak. There is so much wrong with balance in this game and it's getting worse.
The best way to deal with them is staying far away and using EAT or Recoiless, the hellbomb is way to risky. Usually 2 people per team take these so it took a minute twenty. The main thing is getting a clear line of sight and that's sometimes difficult
The spear can lock onto them but I think it has to be a specific angle. I picked up a dead teammates spear yesterday and it easily locked onto one of them. Killed it in one shot.
The Spear is the biggest meme in this game. I only tried using it once, then it refused to lock on to 2 chargers and a bile titan at mid range and I just left the mission and picked a different weapon lol. They need to fix that dogshit targeting.
One of the most enjoyable testing videos for any game I've seen. Really could use a table comparing all of the options and how they equate though.
How can they go this blindsided and add basically a flying hunter. Like hunters are already in a bad place why add this bullshit. The fact they can one tap you after dying just by clipping you slightly is such a bad enemy design. Wether this was intended or not, it needs to be fixed asap. Shouldnt even be like this in the first place. That doesnt make it fun. It just makes me more annoyed at the fact that heavy armour is useless still
skill issue
@@jagermanjensen1386 getting away from is easy. Getting clipped by then as they die is just silly
Maybe the reason the Spear locks onto them is the same reason they kill you with their corpses. Maybe they're "heavy" enemies, according to the game.
i love the edition of the video, specially the cuts mid scream
shreikers are balanced imo. if all i have to deal with is shriekers. i can walk right into there nest. no issue. on the other end, hunters are still a piece of shit. hunters are still you vs magazine size. you cant outrun them or dodge them
They look the exact same as the spore spewers did and I feel there's no good reason for them to have different destructibility until they look distinct.
My entire squad got single hit wiped by a single shreiker. IT just somehow lined us all up and got us in 1 swoop. was actually nuts.
“Is that a Bile Titan?” And we know what comes next . 😂

I like that the safest place to stand during the 380 is right under it
I just see this as my autocannon staying winning. Id burn all ots ammo and resupply if it means sniping them before its ever a threat.
Does shooting the 'stalk' of the tree have any better effect? Logically that should be the weak point
Use the air strike eagle stratagem. If you read this first you don’t need to watch the video.
my first time useing the spear it locked instantly to a shreaker nest 250 meters away and 1 shot it
The 380 barrage is really consistent in taking down all three nests it makes it easy
Switching from calling them shrikers to shriekers has my brain churning
I think I prefer Stalkers to these flying pests now. 😅
at least the stalkers don't 1 shot you! hahaha
Why does he keep saying shriker. It's shreaker. Shreeeeeeker. Shreiker.
The inconsistent pronunciation of "shrieker" is sending me up a wall

The real bad guys were us all along
Idk if shriekers' bodies one shoting you is a feature or a bug (no pun intended), but regardless, this shouldn't be happening. Every time I get into a game and see a nest, I just wanna quit out.
Yea I hope it's not intended cause if it is. It's such a bad enemy design and bad idea. Like they can't one tap you when alive but when they die, wtf.
Use the laser canon and destroy them from miles away
I enjoyed this hahahahaha! We have the same first reaction on the armor and grenade launcher. Now, I'm really sure they don't test their stuff enough before releasing to the wild.

Those shriker hotels are a problem for sure
I could have sworn i got a lock the other day with the spear but now i cant replicate it. Its weird with the spore spewer as well. Might be a charger outside of render distance who knows.
Honestly the biggest threat is that the Shreikers can call in breaches on you, so they auto-detect you from 125m away and then when they get close instant breach with no pheramones so you are just instantly in hot water.
But yeah every stratagem i've used that can kill armoured targets can kill them - but because theres 3 nests you normally need multiple stratagems and if you are getting that close you might as well just hellbomb.
why are these so powerful? Or is it that the weapons just feel that under powered? I understand its supposed to be difficult but I don't understand why some weapons just don't seem to work right. Like how come I can wipe a tank with the grenade launcher in like 4 shots but it doesn't even damage the shreiker nests? I love this game but the weapons feel kind of in-consistent to me.

I envision that it does nothing on it's own, but the SPEAR can lock on to the pointer, and any Orbital/Eagle strikes called down nearby (which fire shells, rockets, or bombs) will also home in on it. So you can kill chargers and BTs with the basic Orbital Precision Strike, as long as you devote a guy to keeping a pointer on the target.

For how armor pen works, the descriptions are horribly misleading.
As of right now, there are 5 identifiable armor levels in this game, plus a 0 armor level as well.
Weapons will have a penetration value of 1-5 as well (now 2-5 since the SnP buff)
If a weapon has penetration value equal to the target's armor value, it will do a partial penetration (white X hitmarker) and only do about 60% damage.
If a weapon has penetration value higher than the target's armor value, it will do full penetration (red X hitmarker) and do full damage.
In this game, armor 0 is zero armor. Light armor is classified as armor 1 and 2 (scavengers are armor 1 and brood commanders are armor 2).
Since the buff to the SnP, there are afaik no weapons that have penetration lower than 2 tho, so armor 0 and armor 1 are effectively the same thing.
Medium armor is explicitly armor 3, while heavy armor is again split between armors 4 and 5.
Something with medium armor penetration will always be penetration value 3. This is the default MG, Jar5 dominator, slugger, etc.
Armor 4 is explicitly used for things like hulk faceplates and the grills on buildings and tanks.
That's why weapons like the AMR, Autocannon, Lascannon, etc, can kill a hulk by shooting it in the face but not the rest of the body.
Armor 5 is heavy armor that can only be pierced by explicitly anti tank stuff like the EATs, recoilless, spear, etc. These are titans, chargers, hulk bodies, tank hulls, etc.
Looks like shrieker nests are made out of armor 4 material. Hence your penetration 3 small arms can't even touch them, while penetration 4 support weapons like the Autocannon and AMR can with somewhat reduced damage, and your anti-tank stuff does full damage.
Grenade launcher has always been a penetration 3 weapon, but AoE explosives in this game have a wrapping effect, which is why they can kill striders and chargers with enough direct hits, since the charger has a bare weakpoint that the explosion can wrap around and hit.
