I can justify to my wife buying anything as long as I use it for home improvements. Oh, you're right, the driveway and house do need to be cleaned. Boom, 3500 psi Honda powered pressure washer with the high end Italian made solid brass pump. So you want to scrape the popcorn ceilings and paint do you? Boom, new Graco sprayer. Repaint the back deck you say. I might need a couple of new drills because, well my other ones are old and some deck screws need to be replaced. I learned a long time ago that when your wife comes home with a bunch of Macy's bags, just keep your mouth shut and go to the hardware store and buy some tools to work on the castle.
I ran a 160 amp AHP stick welder off a 4000 watt Champion generator. Ran great and got me by. That said, you did better with your purchase because having your welder/generator will force you to crank your engine up more often and keep your carburetor from gumming up. Also, run Valero Super Unleaded when possible and always run stabilizer in your fuel to keep things working good. I now have a Miller Trailblazer 325 with EFI. It's in a whole different class but I rarely run more than 145 amps. There are occasions when I go up to 220 amps but I'm building some serious implements and machinery. This was a probably the best bang for your buck and is certainly more mobile than mine. I did keep my 4,000 watt champion for that reason. Very nice machine. Congrats. I used the same tactic on my wife. "Honey. We need a generator to keep our babies cool in the summer and warm in the winter if we lose power". When it was delivered, it just happen to have 50 foot welding leads. LOL!
A welder generator is an awesome addition to the family. I haven’t been able to use mine too much recently, but I’d like to start getting some fabrication videos on here soon. You can build some awesome stuff.
Hola amigo soy Carlos y quiero decirte que nunca me pierdo tus vídeos y me gustan mucho aprendo mucho apesar que no hablo inglés pero para mí eres como un maestro en lo que haces gracias por enseñarme
This is the first time that I have commented on your channel, one I would advise you on is to put a base board under your fencing so that the damp does not rise up to the the fence to make it rot quickly this is how use to construct fencing in the UK, so sit your nice fence onto the base board in between your posts hope this is of any use. Great channel 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻
Love it! My dad has welded since he was in his early teens and is amazing at it. His beads are so clean. I always wanted to learn but have had a pacemaker since i was 15 (well, not the same one - on my 5th one now). The spike in EM energy that welders causes can pause a pacer in your heart so... I’m not able to learn. Sucks but, it is what is it. Still enjoying my Finish Carpentry T-Shirt!
Sorry to hear about your heart issues, my niece was born with something wrong with one of her valves and will have issues all of her life. Good luck and God Bless
John Sayman Thank you so much. I’ve gone since 15 with “nothing but” the pacemaker problem/fix and in February i had a stroke, 2 days after a hernia surgery. During all of that testing, they found a hole in my heart on an echocardiogram. I had a TEE last week where they put me to sleep to run a camera down my throat to better see it. I’ll be having surgery in the very near future to repair that. Scheduling the surgery tomorrow. I appreciate all the well wishes, and especially the prayers. I’ll keep your niece in mine as well! Thanks for the comment!
Way to go! It's like when I WAS married, I bought a full time 4wd Blazer (back in the 80's) and told my then wife it had a lot of space in the back for shopping. It soon became her full time shopping vehicle. I watched another You Tuber with a welding channel, say that laying a weld is like writing script letter E's.
I've worked as a welder helper on natural gas pipeline. It's funny how you can see a person weld for 5 seconds and know they have experience welding. Your buddy definitely carries himself like a welder, 🙂 and you can tell he knows what he's doing
Small tip, if I may : on clean steel the welding is much easier and it gives much better results. The cleaning takes some extra work, but it pays off in results. Have fun with your new toy !!
11,000 watts will be enough to run most of your house (if not all) Connect it to your electrical panel with a 50 amp cord, #6 conductors, and it will be able to run your AC, refrigerators and at least most of your other electric needs. You MAY have to cycle off your AC to run things like a clothes dryer or electric water heater. I use a 10,000 watt generator to power my "whole house" in Florida for hurricanes. Works great! If we have to run the clothes dryer or the water heater (50 gal.) I just turn off the AC, heat the water, then turn off the water heater and turn the AC back on. Once the water is heated up, it is good for all day. We have used it for up to 4 days at a time.
Yeah, don't mention anything about throwing the main switch on your panel or better yet, a disconnect so you don't backfeed the line and fry some line worker trying to restore your power. Do not assume that anyone buying a generator will know anything.
I looked at the specs. The welder is a 4000-watt generator not 11000 watts. From the web page " Generator produces 4,500 Watt surge power; 4,000 Watts continuous power". The welder has one 240V plug and it is only 20 amps so hooking it to the main panel would be limited to 4800 watts (actually 4000 watts according to the specs). It has four 20 amp 120V plugs (9600 watts total but the generator is limited to 4000 watts). Also noticed in the review section the welder runs at full throttle all the time. Most decent generators will vary throttle with the load which makes things quieter and more fuel-efficient. Definitely a compromise but in the end will work with some extension cords to keep the refrigerator, etc running. Good luck with the AC, hot water heater, etc.
Definitely funny when you bring up hypothetical apocalyptic scenarios to the wife...usually just get an eye roll lol but lately it's been a pretty good excuse to buy more tools 👍
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me.
@Bodie Titan Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Make sure you use some prep and etch on that oil field pipe. Scrub and wash it off after 24 hrs. Take the time to prime it first before painting it with restoelum rusty primer. If not your paint will peel off after a couple months. I gave my neighbor the same advice but ignored me , now his fence is peeling like crazy even though he used good restloeum rusty gloss paint. He regretted instantly. It takes more time but we’ll work the extra elbow grease. My pipe fence still looks great after several years.
Nice to see you educated your wife on the need to get that generator / welder. You will definitely be using the generator again even if its for emergency after a disaster.. i have an 1100 watt wen , and a 3800 wen investor generator

We used the Generator about 8 times last year in Rolling Blackouts or when the Wind Blows Hard...Power Company Turns the Juice Off in Fear of Possible Wind Caused Fires. You will need to Learn how to Connect the Gen to your Electrical Panel Safely or Install a Special Switch. Lastly...I would Recommend Purchasing a Small 2.2K (1.8K) Generator too. That Big Generator will Gobble Gasoline which might be in Short Supply in an Emergency!!!!!
Way to go Richard! Now if you want to connect that generator to the house and save yourself tons of money, use an interlock switch on your breaker panel. It gives you more flexibility and cost less to install.
I think can make 2 male plugs. Plug one in to generator and plug other into one outlet that it tied to all of the lights in house. It will operate all lights i think and fridge but not ac as it draws more amps and may be on separate breaker. An electrician may know more about this. But I did it when a hurricane came and one cord ran all the lights in the house pretty much. So you you guys know incase you need the info
Fit up looks awesome it's a fence those gaps give you a place to stick that rod , now as your gate goes think about a rolling gate you're on a little bit of a slope you don't want to swinging gate! You need a rolling gates its little bit of work to fabricate the roller assembly and obviously you need to pass the gate length across the fence another project for your welder seems like it would work great at your location the rolling gate great content video too.... Peace
Richard wear a full face shield or flip up the dark lens on your welding hood when using the steel brush. The wires will break loose and could hit you in the eyes or face.
Just a small tip, drill 1/8 holes in the bottom of all your pipe. It will prevent them from rusting from the inside out, due to condensation. Looking forward to your next video.
Welding is a cool skill to have just to know you can fix and make stuff. I don’t however recommend doing it in a cotton sweatshirt and canvas shoes. Leather is your friend when welding lol. Fence is coming along nicely. And a new tool to boot job well done.
Like your dry sense of humor, so much that I’m not sure you actually bought the generator/welder or it belongs to your welder brother-in-law. Liking this series!
You need a transfer switch on your breaker panel so that you can connect up to 6 circuits from your house to the generator. That way, you don't need to use extension cords connected to the generator when power goes out. You flip a switch on your breaker panel, connect the generator to the transfer switch, and you then have half of your house powered, as though the power is still live.
And all areas need to be clean before welding for maximum adhesion. Also, it's easier to weld. Create 1/8 of an inch gap with disk before welding helps too
So I’ve done one room of crown w a borrowed saw and want to purchase my own. Torn between the 12” dewalt sliding (no XPS) and the 12” dewalt. Not loads of shop space. How highly would you recommend the sliding saw? Is it a must?
The First thing you need to do, is go to a Store, a Northern Tool Type. Get Some larger Semi-Pneumatic Tires, to get the Generator off the ground more, and make it easier to move. You may need to extend the legs on the other side.
Those fit ups are fine for the field lol. Maybe not a fab shop though, which this is not. I am looking at buying a 10,000 starting watt 8,000 running watt generator and the Fronius transteel 2200. From what I have read the generator will run it fine. Was thinking about a hobart or even a lincoln ranger 225 or 250. Fun video thanks for sharing.
Just from experience. A face shield is a must with cut off wheels and wire wheels. It will save a trip to the er to have the brushes removed from your face or a broken disk removed if it should break and shatter. 4” disks make a bloody mess and 7” disks cause catastrophic losses. Great job on the fence and working hard .
so to figure out how much watts you need for a generator take the voltage of the hobart handler 140 welder (115volts) and times it by the amps drawn (20amps) and thats how much watts it draws.(2300watts) or for a stickmate 160I its 240volts at 27.8amps is 6672 watts continuous but that welder can run on 120volts at 20.7amps=2484 watts. the stickmate is easier for new people but the handler 140 is cleaner and still very easy to use.
With large gaps in the fit up, what you can do is knock the flux off of another rod and lay that in the gap, hold and feed it like you would TIG filler while you weld over that with your stinger. Cheers man.
your fitment looks good , practice practice on welding , get a painter mitt for the pipe goes on super fast put the paint on the palm of the mitt and just wipe on pipe
I just watched your video on the coffered ceiling. You might want to check out Chris Berry’s channel...the Idaho Painter. He does a ton of spraying and probably has some spray and masking accessories that would help you. Good luck!
why did you taie the wooden fencing down to the ground? wont they suck up any moisture casuing them to rot. why not use a horizontal board the you could replace if/when you need to rather than the whole fence.
Nice looking fence. Don’t be so hard on yourself metal fit-up looks good. My go to plan for one time use tools is to check Craigslist and I usually find what I need at a bargain price. Sweet wife that buys your “justification”. My experience, sad to say, is some in the trades don’t learn beyond what they learned 20 years ago that “works” and never get better or more experienced.
Some one tries to run over that wooden looking fence down on an apocalypse they will be in for a surprise when they actually run into a metal fence haha
Love that Gen/welder. Congratulations. You will be surprised how often you find yourself using that welder. Repair jobs, stands, etc. Next thing is Oxy/Acetylene torch. Hang in there, welding is an art.
Yeap I bought one too it is an addiction double your age and think how many tools I have .but even my collection pales in comparison to a bloke I met a few years ago I was working on his house and I said I'll just go get a barrow and he said it's ok I'll get my JCB

You should try Oxy-Acetylene welding. No electricity required and it's a lot of fun.
You can usually weld at 160 amps or below and avoid a TIG with high frequency start. Talk to your doc and the pacemaker company.
Valerie White wow I had no idea about that. Hopefully you’ll find some way to scratch that welding itch 😆

I had my wife listening to the beginning about justifying the welder/generator and then made her cover her ears around 2:45.
How long are the welding leads and what size are they bro?
When you know how to weld, anything is whatever the f#*k you want it to be.
Your saddle cuts are pretty good - easy to fill
I really enjoy the videos not involving trim
why did you taie the wooden fencing down to the ground? wont they suck up any moisture casuing them to rot. why not use a horizontal board the you could replace if/when you need to rather than the whole fence.
Just used the apocalypse justification to my wife. She looked at me and said um no.
Now you can get rid of all your cordless tools 😂😎🤣😜
You got the power to travel with you 👍
Really want to know your miter saw setup and where you got the metal blocks you put on the saw mounts.
Tried looking for that video but can’t find it
How abut bulding a shed in the back yard for the new generator / welder.
Some one tries to run over that wooden looking fence down on an apocalypse they will be in for a surprise when they actually run into a metal fence haha
i love how every tool acquisition has to run through the CFO ie your wife lmao i used to do the same thing lmao
Well done
That's really cool, I didn't know you guys had running water in Texas 😁
Didn't get to see the wood pickets pt up yet where and when did you do them?
You need this now before you put it away. STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer
Love that Gen/welder. Congratulations. You will be surprised how often you find yourself using that welder. Repair jobs, stands, etc. Next thing is Oxy/Acetylene torch. Hang in there, welding is an art.
A small gap isn't bad, I'm sure that fence will last forever or at least until a flood.
Tool addiction 😲 is a terrible thing, but I love it 😁👍
How many amps was the machine at?
You might need to start a new channel called finish welding 😋
I honestly didn't think it was a good idea to weld rusty metal but you seemed to get away with it. You did good!
He's running 6010. It will burn right through it and make a clean weld every time.
Nice welder I likey
Need to put some beefier wheels on that welder/generator.
Yeap I bought one too it is an addiction double your age and think how many tools I have .but even my collection pales in comparison to a bloke I met a few years ago I was working on his house and I said I'll just go get a barrow and he said it's ok I'll get my JCB
I learned to weld in high school
So got that.!
