Very interesting, as always. So good that some guy can't help but do a copy-paste of this tutorial long time after, for his own youtube channel, without even giving your name ...
Absolutely love it! Clear and simple. Thank you. I'm using Houdini 18.5 on Mac, when I place Ramp everything goes black. Checked everything and can't find a problem, any suggestions? Thank you.
i dont mean to be offtopic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot my password. I appreciate any help you can give me
@Ernest Casey i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
great little video. thank you for sharing. slightly unrelated, I was wondering why you chose C4d to host octane rather than use octane in houdini? I'm trying to make a decision on buying an external render engine and one option was Octane in houdini. any thought is much appreciated. cheers
I guess my question is, how do I make one bigger than this? Is it possible to scale up the whole cloud once it’s complete? Total Houdini newbie here sorry!
Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. I just have a question regarding the cloud noise mask, how would I go about using it? I know that it needs an input, so far I tried converting the cloud volume to points with pointsfromvolume and then attribute paint mask on the points, but it's not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated cause I cant find any info on how to do this.
@@rafaellino7168 Hi, I cannot understand what you mean by 'up a level on the node tree'. Please explain. I am new to Houdini. I'd really appreciate the help! Thanks.
@@danish_shahabOk, if u use Houdini 18.5.633 just follow his steps until 9:06, then on the SOP level go to your "volumevop1" node and in vex setup, ramp, take the right slider "up" to a Value of 1. That will fix it:)
Great tutorial. May I just ask how difficult would it be to make the cloud kinda boil/bubble upwards (like storm clouds do)? Is it possible to import an animated model? And export the vdb sequence
@@correctopinion4708 3D is not my strong suit and I've only just touched vdb so after some experiments with animated displacement texture with cloudy noise, I ended up using thinking particles with pyroclusters attached. It kinda worked.
New Houdini user here, thanks so much for these awesome walkthroughs. At 6:15, is there not a way to apply a purely subtractive noise so that you don't have to worry about isolating the areas where the original density is >1? Thanks!
yes just subtract noise from the density and control the noise with a ramp and fit it just like he did in the tutorial and plug it back into the density out
After I've finished in the VolumeVOP nothing happens when I adjust the curves on the upper level? The right knot is the only one that adjusts the noise and it just goes from 0-100. No actual noise is being generated. HELP PLEASE
i got it to work earlier on your settings, but I wanted to make a larger cloud because when I imported it into C4D (redshift) and tried to scale up it made the cloud look pixelated
This is fantastic. I've been looking to doing this. Also I'd need to take this a step further and make at least one hero cloud that gets flown through by a UFO. Is there a way to use this process and then make it be able to sim the turbulence of an object flying through it?
Yeah, I know this is old, but you can read up or watch tutorials on something called velocity fields. Basically just a cube in which points are scattered that take into account the movement of objects going into the "cube" and transfer that movement to volumes.
Hehe did you have a cold when recording this one Mo? Hardly recognized your voice at first :P Then again I just realized it was a while ago, anyways - Thanks as usual!
Thank you for this amazing tutorial it was really helpful can you please guide us like many people have asked how we can make this clouds intract or collide with some object it will be really helpful to a great extent please help us with that @entagma and cheers for this great tutorial
Non destructive / Procedural. In simple terms, you start with an object and apply operations on it through a network of operations. That’s one description.
Very interesting, as always.

sincerely the most usefull video for houdini i've seen thx man
exremely blowing up my mind! great way!!! thank you!
and this, three years after u was posting it here ^^
thousands of people dream of a fresh lesson based on new tools for clouds from Houdini 20

when you add the ramp in VOPS you need to go up a level as the Ramp will be promoted to the VOPS node.

Historical reasons. Nowadays there's really no reason not to use octane or redshift directly in Houdini. Cheers, Mo

thank you very much !
Working in 17.5 this thing goes nuts once I add the ramp node into the VOP. I'd greatly appreciate any hints.
