    I think for me, the lack of the production camera is what makes me consider converting to Sony before I overly invest in LUMIX lenses… I think that’s the angle LUMIX needs to consider as well! Potentially losing customers that are growing into bigger productions originating from their ecosystem

    It's indeed time for a full frame EVA2, one addition..if you go for flipscreen, make it also able to tilt🙂 I got the 5sIIX, so frustrating that the flipscreen can not tilt up. The flip is useless once you use an external monitor, cause the hdmi ports are blocking the flipscreen to flip once rigged up.

    I got home safe and sound but I gave a lot of thought to this video on my way home. Lumix abandoned their Evo (and cinema like cameras for that matter for good), I want to believe that that's the reason Arri let's them use Arri logc. Arri will not make a Mirrorless style camera and Panasonic won't make Cinema camera. Arri doesn't need to worry about"cheap" cameras eating their bottom line and Panasonic has(in a way) a high end outlet for those that need something more than a Lumix S1H mkII.

    You didn't mention internal raw recording like with the GH7. Look, they already have everything they need, to just about give this to us now. We just need the S1H II to give us:
    -internal NDs
    -internal raw recording (no more external, that's fraught)
    -dynamic range between 14-15
    They could give us that in the box style like the BS1H for around 4500 and I would buy it.

    Totally agree, especially on getting an EVA2. We are a Red and Panasonic shop; we continue to use our EVA1 as it's still fully competitive for image quality and we love Vlog almost as much as Red RAW. Updating that with full frame, IBIS, and 32 bit audio would make getting it a no-brainer for us. Panasonic can make this easily; all of the tech is in their Lumix line and having a little more space in the body would make high frame rates possible with great cooling and processing power. I believe Panasonic is gaining momentum in the professional world (because they are killing it!) and this prepares the market for an EVA2. Yes please!

    Okay, hear me out:
    LUMIX should make a thin, dockable sensor plane, like just over half the S9 thickness tops, which would be modular and can mount to various bodies.
    SX: EDC camera - Two dockable sensor body variations;
    Street (OVF/no screen) & Life (audio jacks/flip screen - vlog friendly)
    SXI: Hybrid Video-Centered Camera;
    Dockable sensor locks into a slightly thicker grip body like S5IIX (All similar functionality)
    SXII: Cinema Camera;
    Dockable sensor locks to front of handled production camera body. All usual cine bells & whistles & potentially a mount swap option for older heftier cine lenses.
    There could be more rugged/vintage variants of this, dependent on the types of films produced. EVF & A/V and mount points included on body.

    I think the S1h update will likely have most if not all of what you're talking about. I mean for my work, I don't really need the capability to work with Arri cams, but I'm sure going to get the log upgrades for my gh7 on order and my current gh6 to have two cams that can give arri log should be quite nice. I have canon fullframe for photography, and also have shot some video with them, quite nice. But since invested in canon glass, not likely to go panny full frame. Plus if rumors are true the R5 mk II should be a video beast...so will wait on that.

  • @ShaneVanLitz
    @ShaneVanLitz Месяц назад +1

    As much as I'd love to see this camera, part of me thinks it's too little too late, especially for popular public opinion. I'd be a bit worried about investing in their ecosystem at this stage unless we saw them hit a few home runs to solidify their position in the pro camera space first. Although I've enjoyed my S5 and BS1H I think Panasonic have fallen pretty far behind the pack and it stinks seeing long standing issues that aren't getting fixed in firmware or even with the new hardware. When I shoot freelance corporate or TVC jobs for production companies where we aren't renting a bigger camera like an Alexa or even FX6, it's pretty hard to convince producers that the Panasonic cameras are up the the job in the same way they know an FX3 or Blackmagic Pocket Camera to be (Though I will say that they're normally really impressed with the Panasonic images in the end). I just mean that most production companies know Canon, Sony, Blackmagic, Red and Alexa cameras and understand how to intergrate those ecosystems into their workflows. While all this is totally OK when we work on our own projects, the brand has no real reputation in the profesional space anymore wich means bigger companies aren't used to working with them and they're harder to sell as part of your day rate package as a result - and I think it'll take a while to win that reputation back.

    I’ve been hoping for this same camera for a few years now. There will be a S1H successor soonish, and then a BS1H successor also after that. Talking to the reps at NAB this year, I was told that the fruits of the LUMIX/VariCam team merger will be a couple years out still. That’s when we should expect to see this camera, although the S1H/BS1H successors have the potential to get ~80% of the way there.

    I really wish they would get back to into the cinema space and give us video shooters an upgrade path past mirrorless camera….instead they want to diversify within the really cluttered hybrid market.
    That’s the sole reason I’m toying with the idea of moving to Sony. There’s a clear upgrade path that shares the same lens mount.

      Never say never; Panasonic is on a roll and I think this the S5iiX and GH7 prepare the market for a kick-ass EVA2.

      @@CUTONTHEACTION oh I’d love to hold out hope for it! They know people are loving the current cams! But I think the EVA spiritual successor will probably still be “hybrid-ish” camera coming from Lumix, not a full cinema camera. They pretty much shuttered the cinema portion of the Pro AV department to focus on live broadcast. The cinema camera product manager was let go and they didn’t replace him.

      Panasonic's real cinema line was the Varicam. I think there is still room for a "production" camera like the successor to the EVA-1.

    I kinda think this is not a "my wish" video ... rather than that it's "pre-announcement video". Someone here spoken with Panasonic during Cine Gear 2024 and either got some inside knowledge or been asked to record such "pre-announcement".
    I'm kinda waiting till end of the year to buy either my b-cam for my A7IV or buy A-cam and make my A7IV the b-cam.
    90% chance it will be another Sony camera, but I'm watching what is happening and there is slight changes it won't be actually another Sony.

    i just returned my s9. I loved real time luts but man the lens selection is so bad. There is legit no good small lens that’s good for video and photo that made the s9 pocket enough to be that dad cam style. All the good full frame lenses are pretty big.

    Tried the S9 for a week and it was butt cheeks for me. No EVF - as a Dad I need that evf for outdoor shooting. Plus didn’t like the ginormous lens options. A LUMIX MFT like the S9 with an EVF would be Dad mode activated.

      @@ZachMayfield Good luck, my guy! The EVF may not be a deal breaker for some, but it was for me. Plus, any time I go out as the family camera guy with my fam - and I try a different camera out - I end up wishing I would've just brought my R5 and the 24-105. I either miss the EVF, 45mp's or the zoom lens. The S9 really wasn't pocketable for me (I don't rock cargo shorts0 what a failure as a dad right? LOL) I'm thinking the S5 is plenty perfect as a Dad cam.

    Not sure if you heard of it, but there's an interesting camera by JVC called the GY-LS300.
    It's a Super 35 sensor cinema camera with a Micro Four Thirds mount...which means you can use Micro Four Thirds lenses or adapt just about anything to it. And, if the lens covers the Super 35 sensor (some Micro Four Thirds lenses do, some don't), then you can get the Super 35 look and performance instead of a Micro Four Thirds sensor look.
    For Micro Four Thirds lenses that don't cover the entire Super 35 sensor, then the camera has a cropping feature to compensate so you don't get vignetting.
    Unlike Panasonic's box cameras, it also has built-in ND filters.
    I want someone to update that camera with 10-bit 4:2:2, RAW video, and phase-detect autofocus.

      I had one of the prototype in hands back in the day at test in sport competition (automotive). It was such a piece of crap, from UI, screen quality, difference of exposure between evf and LCD, dynamic range was trash, it felt like a joke back in the FS7 / A7S MK1 / 5DM3 days. JVC is long dead to be honest.

    I have been shooting with panasonic cameras exclusively since the 1996 Olympic games. Currently, I have 3 Panasonic cameras. This year, I am dumping all my panasonic gear and buying either Canon c400 or Sony FX 6 Mark ii .. but no more Panasonic in 2025. Unless they listen to you. EVA 2 with FF sensor ibis internal nds dual iso 6 or 8 K 60p no crop .. raw or prores internal recording around $10K or under.

    I don't think the S9 is a good Dad camera. A good Dad camera needs a flash or a hotshoe. There will be moments when you just need a flash. Evan Ranft who is a natural light photographer and a commercial photographer did not even buy a flash until him and his wife had their first baby. He does not even like flash but there will be those times when you just need it.
    My Dad was the family photographer and he had a Minolta camera and a 50mm and a 135mm lens and flash in his camera bag. I know people want smaller cameras now for going out but you at least want a popup flash.
