- Together with my friend Doove we flew to India with an ambitious plan: to ride up the Highest Road in the World.
This 3 week journey lead us up high through India's Himalayas. We rented bikes in Manali and drove the Trans Himalayan Highway to Leh, then summited Khardung La (The world's highest motorable road) and headed east to Srinagar near the Pakistan border before returning to Manali.

Exact opposite for me.

Total cost of this trip is around 45-50k for renting and staying charges .....but if u have Ur own bikes it will cost u 15-20k hardly u will have to save Ur 2-3 year of savings

the thing is man no 1 shows the beautiful part of india every focuses on the poverty & underdeveloped infrastructure
It's Nepal right?
Elijah Lacour didnt yousee the indian flag in the video?
I did it 17 years ago.... LOVE IT!!!!! Thanks for sharing!
+Zohar Lindenbaum why not do it again :)
+cocoarecords Ha! Well, just got back for India a few days ago. Did a mini version with a scooter in Goa ;)
17 year ago this..trip is 100 time more harder then now
amazing guys, loved every bit of it.
India is an amazing country, an experience you'll never forget. You'll have a 100 stories to tell, once you visit this place.
indeed it is
Literally one of the best videos I have seen. I did a 2 month 8000km motorcycle-camping trip through Australia, a large chunk of the trip being in the outback and it changed my life. your set-ups with the tarps etc and the treacherous road surfaces I could really relate to, this is what life is all about i literally smiled from beginning to end. I loved the typically British race to the top! great stuff boys. I am planning an India motorcycle trip next year, can't wait!
+tommyjordan1988 Thanks bud!
So are u in india now ?
Dalai lama is an honored guest of India, he is always welcome.
i love the spirit of adventure that you guys had kept alive. and i am very happy to see that you guys actually met the dalai lama on the way.. which is very lucky... best wishes..

Recently did this route, always good to see from other people's perspective.

I did this trip in summer 2015. It is not as easy as it looks. I went from Manali to KhardungLa via Leh. Altitude wears you down for a couple of days but you get used to it (do not underestimate it). Take it easy and the roads are so bumpy in some places that your back, spine and all bones in your body just wants to cry but in the end you are rewarded by an amazing adventure that will change your life.
How many days?
The reason I’m here is Royal Enfield. ❤️😍😍
Yeah, whose shock absorber and tires fall flat right?
@@sanmechrocker I think those that claim to love Royal Enfield, probably never rode a motorcycle or never rode anything but a RE. Looking at these 2 bikes was like looking at my 1970 Honda SL that I had back in 1977 and STILL, not as good. They are just old technology, underpowered with a very inferior suspension, especially for a trip like this. In the end though, better a RE than nothing.
@@scottbaxter2682 dude its the feeling of the bike..by specs obvio we indians know bullet isnt even really good
it has oil leakage and many more
its just the feeling u just feel like a king also with that thump thats all

I am a Indian college student, the adventure which you have done here, we dream of doing this in our country But this need so much courage to do. After watching your Video, i will definitely try this once in my life. Thanks mate for the awesome adventure video. cheers !!
Shashank Tripathi you will be surprised once you done it.
It doesn't require more courage then going out of home at night.
Trust me you will overcome every fear once you do it. A total new person ready to challenge world.
@Aman yes bro why what happened?
@Aman are you alright?
Did you do it ??
The video that made me learn to ride a motorcycle at the age of 27, made me do solo trips, made me own a Royal Enfield and gave me wonderful memories . I can't thank you enough, for words are not enough. Beautifully made, what makes the video stand out is the soulful back ground music. Thank you Carlos, do come back!
the royal enfield roar is enough to pump me up for an awesome journey!
Bro are u alive
Omg such an amazing inspiration. You guys were like main characters in the movie "motorcycle diary" and Indian people are amazing humans! Really appreciate for this video
oh my god this is amazing!!! i wish i could meet you guys and travel with youuuu
U must come to india
You must come and discover it i also do planning for it as a solo travellers
Solo travelers join with me next trip
I just can't get tired of watching this video, Carlos Costa inspired me to make a trip a few months ago, just by myself in my bike, from Mexico to Chicago across the route 66, next day running the marathon, next day riding back home, 15 day trip, riding all day long 😁
Anyone want to watch me do a similar video in Bolivia?? Any tips or suggestions that can help Doove and me with getting bikes in South America would be greatly appreciated!
Hi5!
In which month you visited?
Hi friend !! you want to rotate the highway of death in bolivia? I had plans to run this road ... But india is calling me .. (laughs) ... will hardly be able to rent bikes in south america ... I'm from Brazil ... To get the bikes, or you make friendships, or negotiate the purchase and sale. If I can help in something, I'm here !!
I found your 50 bucks XD HAHAHA
Just look for a dual sport bike with fuel injection like honda CRF 250L or Yamaha WR 250R
Manvendra Sengar Those were my motivation to hit the roads!
Watched this for a hundred times and never tired hope someday I'm gonna be doing this. Maybe 2020 & beyond
2020 is a shit year
Please do , you'll see wonders like no other
Have you ever gotten around to doing this?
This video is like one of those movies, that you remember by the name and keep coming back to watch it again again. It's a pure delight to watch this. ❤️

We did it in 2002 and 2005 by car we 7 friends. We slided at rohtang way above others are doing..on huge huge chuck of snow cliff. We ran out of water in radiator and went hike to get snow melted it and started our car. We got broken axle at 17000 ft and stuck there for hours... We nearly fell into river near pang and saved by a truck and in morning it helped started our vehicle by pulling though chains....we played volleyball in sand dunes... I ran 100 mt on world highest motrable road and played football with kids on leh skating ground... We cried we yelled..we laughed....we did it all and that too 15 years back when we were just 16-22 year old :p
came here for the Royal Enfields
Adam Haynes not a great plan
theres a specific way of riding it...if you dont ride it the way it has to be riden you'll have to have cash for maintainace after its breakdown xD

Came across this video a couple years ago and only watched a couple minutes. This time I gave it a fair shake and watched the whole thing. Totally worth it! Such a fun time. You'll be talking about this trip long into your 80's.

I saw your video in high school and i used to think when would i be able to go for such a trip. Now, almost 8-9 years later, i have been on similar trips. I want to thank you for inspiration. It was quite a difficult task to convince my family for this.

fattymallen its nothing personal from india side buddy even indians do not like leaving their home ,parents, country, culture and relatives behind.
It's just competition and lack of opportunities in india.
But hay indians also pay taxes where they work and work for the betterment for other country too you know indian goverment do not work on a child for 15 years just to see him go abroad india needs talent too.
maybe those who get offended by others getting job should work on themself more.
No offense.

Got this video recommended and remembered that I had already saved it to „favourites“ around 9 years ago, right after finishing high school.
That special feeling still holds up to this day, but it makes me very nostalgic and sad as I realize that most of my dreams doing adventures like this did not come true..

Thank you Carlos! This brings back such memories. I did the route solo and I still regret not having it on video. This goes in my favourites now.
My wife and I have been to India to help at an orphanage. Indians are great they help westerners which sad to say too many are rich somewhat to major spoiled kids. Indians are warm and humble I don't know how they perceive Americans since many are very entitled who can afford to go on an adventure to India at a young age. I was 55 till my wife and I could afford to go to India. So, Indians please know there are humble poor Americans that don't have overly inflated EGOS...
Me and my friend are doing this trip soon. I'll post a picture of the note if I find it haha
