Agree! When this song came out my mother had just lost her husband, my father, of almost 70 years. Made me understand how she might be feeling. Beautiful song from Adam!
Adam released this as the lead single off the covers album High Drama last year (which he said was done so his fans would have newly recorded music to listen to, since he spent the pandemic conceiving and writing songs for a musical, "that has a longer timeline.") He also stated in numerous promo interviews that his interpretation and delivery of the song reflected his feelings about coming out of the pandemic. As usual his live performances on the Jonathan Ross Show & The Voice were excellent.
This is Adam Lambert very retrained. I saw an interview where he said sometimes it's harder to sing like this than it is for him to belt out and sing his high notes.
I'm glad you gave your opinion, mine happens to be that we haven't heard this type of performance from Adam before and I love it. I don't think that he needs to be putting the high notes and belts in everything he does. This is simply gorgeous. If you want his "usual" performance, listen to Holding out for a Hero on the same album.
Isn´t it a bit simplistic to say a cover is not good because he sings not as loud as he can? You say you are missing "the built". But I think it doesn´t have to be always the same structure. I simply love his "solution" with just the pure "lalalas" in the end - it sounds absolut angelic to me. This song has a very special meaning to me: when I had a very hard time I drove home in my car and I heard it on repeat for hours and I was glad it had no "built"…
Yes, he's a powerhouse BUT there is something to be said for restraint. His restraint and beauty brings me to tears. Two other suggestions from this Cd are Getting Older (official video) and Do You Really Want to Hurt Me (performance on The Tonight Show). Maybe its the context. He performed it on The Voice after a massacre at a gay club in Denver. The set design had five mannequins representing the five victims and it was very powerful.
Adam performed this song live on the Jonathan Ross show, the Voice Live Finale and the Amfar show he did in Cannes. He belted in all three shows. The best version is Amfar. He really lets loose! He tends to change the way he performs depending on the show or who the song is dedicated to. I love all three versions. Thanks for your reaction.
Thank you so much for your reaction!! Totally agree with you, but when Adam sings this song live in concert, it's something else entirely, he's belting, letting his powerful voice stand out. I always prefer his live vocals to studio recordings. I would prefer albums recorded only with live recordings of his singing.
I dunno, I love Duran Duran version and I loved this cover. It didn't even cross my mind that it lacked anything. The song is more intimate and subdued, I don't think the belting is necessary.
Such amazing control and vocal technique, a superb singer through and through, who can do practically anything - any genre, style of song, etc, whether slow or subdued, or loud and fast, belting, not belting, lol, I so envy all the tools in his toolbox he has at his disposal, he can play around with his voice and make it sound so effortless (even though I know it took years of training, practicing, performing to get there)
Duran2 had an extra verse that Adam didn’t sing and I wondered when this was put out if there was a goof that was edited out and never finished because it felt unfinished
I think the restraint was a deliberate, artistic choice. He has said in an interview that he now likes to save the big powerful show-off (my words, not his) vocals for certain moments where the song really calls for it. In my opinion, the larger builds would have expressed different set of emotions than what he was going for. There are plenty of songs where he shows off vocally a lot more, if that's what you want to hear. Though, I think the restraint has its own technical challenges. Edited to correct typos.
You must hear him perform "Believe" for Cher live at the "Kennedy Center Honors". It's the most incredible thing you'll ever hear and it made Cher cry.
He said in a recent interview that he doesn't feel like he needs to "show off" his voice in every song he sings. Said he has learned alot with age and playing with Queen. Listen to the original Duran Duran song if you want all the build up and belting shit!
Rumors are Adam Lambert is headed to Broadway to play Emcee in the Broadway show Cabaret in September, since they rotate the actor for that part every six months. Hard to tell, but we will know for sure in September 2024.
If I remember correctly he sang this on American Idol and mixed up the original version to keep it very tender which is why it likely stayed the same. He had been belting everything on the show, as he can do it with ease, but this version was to show a different side to his skills. The choice was very American Idol influenced.
I have chills!! Duran Duran are my all time favorite band and this is in my top 5 of their songs!! All I can say is he has done this song justice just stunning!
Hi Maggie, I can't believe you have no Corvyx on your channel!! he has covered this also, amongst many others! 'My Heart Will Go on' plus several Evanescence covers all in the original key or higher, he's truly exceptional, and gets compared to Adam Lambert ALL the time. please won't you check him out? thank you
No. Adam has amazing control and technique, and makes his own choices. He did this this way intentionally. If you want to see him belt, check out all of his work. ❤
Should have watched his LIVE singing on The Voice of this song. His live voice is leagues beyond his recording voice. Records just don't do him justice, not enough bitrate or something.
There is some build on the second occurrence of the 'cry for yesterday' chorus. The problem is that he ends the song after that. Duran Duran went on to a third section. A third instance of the chorus would have been the place for pulling out the stops. But as is increasingly the case in the current music world, songs are being held down to not much more than 3 minutes as if this were the early 1960s on AM radio. Why? Shrug.
Hah! It's the first time I've heard this cover and I was about to comment on how weak I thought it was when you butted-in and said basically the same thing. It's impressive that you were waiting for a bit of oomph that didn't come as I know the original from the 90s and even though it is a slow song it has a lot more attack and meaning to it.
Disagree. Not every song has to be a vocal acrobatic exhibition. Sometimes belting gets old if the build is so predictable. Imo. I like the subtle runs
Sadly, it was an homage to the original and Simon le Bon is not capable of building a vocal. Adam Lambert should have covered Spandau Ballet rather than Duran Duran.
I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but Adam gets an insane amount of horribly cruel comments that have absolutely no justification. A certain segment of Queen "fans" are the worst. They'll literally say things like, "Adam is way too over the top for me." And then when asked about Freddie they'll say that it's ok for Freddie but not for Adam with no reason as to why. Even his own "fans" often comment things like, "I love you, Adam, but... blah blah blah." THAT'S what's annoying. So the rest of us are just out here trying to offset all the negative energy that he gets for not being Freddie and for not making himself look more plain.
He also has some of the worst hangers on....some seem to have been around since the beginning just being critical saying how much they dislike him.....surely you know after a couple of years someone isn't for you....
@@juliep3508 I think people who troll him really obsessively actually love him, but they wish they didn't so they troll him as a way to try to convince themselves that they don't. 🤷♀️ How could you watch him sing and see how charming & funny he is in his interviews and actually hate him, that's pure insanity lol.
No doubt he has a spectacular voice, but I've always been conflicted about him singing for Queen. To me, his voice is just a touch too perfect and 'Broadway' for me. Freddie could get a real rock rasp in his voice when he wanted, and Lambert's voice it just a bit to clean.
Adam oversings too much just like Christina Aguilera. I find his “goats wiggle vibrato” so off pudding as the entire time he signs songs, he does vibrato and runs for no reason. Not a fan at all.

you'd have a field day with Corvyx's mixed voice! Tara Simons says it's the best she's heard!
Brian May once said that Adam has the voice of an angel, it's hard to disagree. Very beautiful!
The quality of his pulled back sound....one of the best voices ever....so controlled
Sometimes less is more.😉Absolutely love the tenderness here, just because you can, doesn't mean you always have to.
I think it’s beautiful just the way it is!🤷♀️
Agree! When this song came out my mother had just lost her husband, my father, of almost 70 years. Made me understand how she might be feeling. Beautiful song from Adam!
he is doing a cover of a song and doing it differently and they way he wants...he does not have to blow us away every song...
Adam released this as the lead single off the covers album High Drama last year (which he said was done so his fans would have newly recorded music to listen to, since he spent the pandemic conceiving and writing songs for a musical, "that has a longer timeline.")

This is Adam Lambert very retrained. I saw an interview where he said sometimes it's harder to sing like this than it is for him to belt out and sing his high notes.
I’ve also heard that singing soft like this is a lot harder!

Love love his version of this song....
He's following the Duran template on this song which is subtle and valid.

ALWAYS go for the live performances when you listen/react to Adam Lambert. ALWAYS!

My favorite Duran Duran song. Adam does it beautifully.

Beautiful cover of a Duran Duran classic hit! Great job Maggie!
Adam Lambert is one of the few people who sound better live than on albums. Several live versions of this definitely prove that once again.
I really love this version of the song Adam's voice is really breathtaking and Angelic 🥺💖✨
I agree with you😊
Check out his version of Cher’s song “Believe” as it’s one of his best
Adam Lambert's voice is utterly goosebump-inducing. I absolutely LOVE his voice!
His diction is so spot on... When he wants it to be. Such an amazing vocalist ❤

You should evaluate him singing Nessun Dorma. He is one of the most wonderful singers I have every heard.
Love Adam's voice !!
You know what l? U need to react to his Whole lotta love ..it's gonna blow ur mind 😅....thanks 4 the reaction❤
I agree, I prefer to hear all his power!! Like Whole Lotta Love at American Idol. I still looove that performance. It was insane!
Loved the reaction, Maggie!🥰
Glad you enjoyed! You Rock!! 🤘💟🤘
Duran2 had an extra verse that Adam didn’t sing and I wondered when this was put out if there was a goof that was edited out and never finished because it felt unfinished
Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert are my favorite American Idol contestants.

Love Adam my 2nd favorite male vocalist right after Steve Perry ❤❤❤❤
Simon LeBon & Pavarotti are incredible singing "Ordinary World".
Thanks for your honest review, I AGREE! you shoud reat to the original to contrast how far this oerformance is from the power of the orinal
I thought the performance was stellar and really didn't need any huge belting moment.

Adam Lambert - Sleepwalker (Glam Nation Live)
I have to disagree with you on this one - the understated performance is, I'm convinced, a choice here - and it fits the lyrics perfectly!
I don’t know, not every song has to be belted.
Please react to Adam Lambert's Believe performance in KC Honors for Cher.
Miss Luna 🐅 RAWR
👍❤️
I have chills!! Duran Duran are my all time favorite band and this is in my top 5 of their songs!! All I can say is he has done this song justice just stunning!
I sort of think that's the point. He has the control to make it "easy" for the radio 🤷🏼♀️

Corvyx is fantastic!

Мэгги, там Димаш новый шедевр подогнал, хватит отдыхать, за работу )
It is called Angelic. He doesn't have to belt everything.
Lambert is one of best vocalists. I very like his version of Glam National live "Sleepwalker" better, amezing performance
i like to see him do a duet with Floor Jansen
Should have watched his LIVE singing on The Voice of this song. His live voice is leagues beyond his recording voice. Records just don't do him justice, not enough bitrate or something.
His live vocals anywhere are exceptional compared to the recordings
Only one other singer comes close, Steve"The Voice" Perry..

You want a blast of build up vocals listen to holding out for a hero on the same album
You should react to t-pain - Tennessee whiskey live cover! Its really really good!! 🔥🔥🔥
He has a BEAUTIFUL voice but u r right-he can do it better!!

He is such an amazing singer, and he is a very sexy man! And before anyone says something, I know he is gay!
Disagree. Not every song has to be a vocal acrobatic exhibition. Sometimes belting gets old if the build is so predictable. Imo. I like the subtle runs
lol @ what you expect from him....who the hell are you?
Knowing the original, this was a bit of a disappointment. Way too restrained.
I would love to hear him open up and just do it.
Sadly, it was an homage to the original and Simon le Bon is not capable of building a vocal. Adam Lambert should have covered Spandau Ballet rather than Duran Duran.
I disagree with you. Adam’s musical instincts are superior to yours. Sorry
The original by Duran Duran is better!
LeBon 1 Lambert 0 I'm afraid, and Simon did his 40 years ago.
Adam is an excellent singer but has some of the most obnoxious online fans around

I've heard covers of this song done in singing competitions that are far better.
Adam oversings too much just like Christina Aguilera. I find his “goats wiggle vibrato” so off pudding as the entire time he signs songs, he does vibrato and runs for no reason.
Not a fan at all.
