    Here's a thought for you: When Facebook told people coconut oil was good, my friend immediately bought some, when Facebook told her it was bad, she got rid of it. If I tell her the science and food industry tactics, she will never believe me, because she didn't read it on her news feed on Facebook. Scary stuff!

      Facebook doesn’t tell you anything. People and companies on Facebook preach their agenda. So no, Facebook didn’t tell people coconut oil was good or bad. Facebook algorithms will link you to companies that cover subjects you have searched or commented on. Companies selling their agenda and products pay to do targeted posts.

      I mix 2 tablespoons of VCO into my hot cacao. If I don’t have VCO, I blend my hot cacao with grass-fed butter or grass-fed Ghee. It satiates me. I drink in concoction in the morning and it leaves me satisfied until lunch, sometimes until late afternoon. I drink a lot of H2 water ( bought a Hydrogen generator) in between. I feel more energized (clean energy from burning of heathy fats - from butter or VCO or Ghee). I no longer snack or crave for sugary stuff. I stop consuming pastries, ice cream, bread. It REALLY helps me with my energy level when taking clean fats.

    Coconut oil is the natural food for the heart - it gets the highest recommendation by the Australian Heart Foundation. I live in the Pacific where the coconut and it's derivatives being coconut oil, coconut water and coconut milk, is a staple - I probably eat about a tablespoon minimum every day and have done for many years - I am 68 with the same body I had at 25 (same weight, waste, chest, height). - I use it in my hair - it's a miraculous sun tanner without screening the sun - I make my own toothpaste with it by adding bicarb - I use it as butter, I cook with it, I use it as a carrier oil for essential oils - We who are healthy are healthy because we eat loads of fat - fat makes you thin. Cholesterol has nothing to do with it...the word cholesterol was not even heard of until 1980 - (and BTW there is only one type of cholesterol but there are two types of carriers HDL is the supply trucks and LDL is the pick up (rubbish) trucks)...the GP is ignorant - the university they went to is controlled by drug lords who sit on their boards...Cholesterol is the body's NUMBER ONE antioxidant and anti inflammatory -The natives in the islands never suffer from skin problems, obesity, heart disease, dementia, osteoporosis, cancer etc etc etc and guess what is their main staple - it's paw paw and coconut...the whole thing... High cholesterol and mine is higher than most, means I get more Vitamin D3 when I stand in the sun, it means my thyroid is healthy since your thyroid is the hungriest gland in the body for cholesterol and it protects me against the common cold, engenders a feeling of well being, is a catalyst for the assimilation of calcium into the bone, is what your brain is made of, AND FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO LOWER THEIR CHOLESTEROL using Statins - good luck ! Statins cause statin myopathy (stroke, heart attack and joint pain. Statins now have 30 diseases attributed to them - your GP is a pusher. natureopaths are the medicine men and women...the word DOCTOR means to fabricate and falsify. eat food not crap.

    I follow a few simple rules and it has always kept me healthy:
    1) Avoid processed foods as much as you can. The only time I have them is at a party or some social gathering (which is quite infrequent) where I don't want to come across as a health snob.
    2) Anything edible from nature is good (that includes coconuts). Nature knows best. It gives you the right balance of nutrients in every vegetable/fruit/nut it produces.
    3) Balance and moderation is everything. Eat small quantities of all kinds of plant based foods instead of gorging on one kind of "super food" just because it is produced by nature.
    4) Do not eat too much. Eat a morsel less than what is required to satiate your hunger. Eat only two meals a day that too only when you really feel hungry. Excessive food intake eating and eating frequently does not allow your body to rest and repair.
    5) Intermittent fasting (12-16 hours every day) and a 48 hour fast once a month. This practice burns up excess glycogen deposits, cleans up waste products from the body, and gives it much needed rest for rejuvenation.
    6) Regular bowel movement (twice a day) to not allow the digestive waste linger in the large intestines for a long time which is really bad.
    7) Do significant amount of physical activity (walking, jogging, weights etc.)
    8) Drink enough water.

    From one physician to another, Thank You for not drinking the same Kool Aid so many others in our profession have done! Getting nutrition advice from a physician is risky at best. I went to one of the top medical schools in the nation, and to fulfill the "nutrition" requirement we just had to read a little paperback book and write a paper...about 4 hours out of 4 years of med school to "master" the subject of knowing what the body needs to do what its designed to do...maintain an existence of health and recovery when necessary. There's a few self educated docs out there that have this vital information...If a doc thumbs their nose at sound nutrition principles, ask them the extent of their training specifically and dedicated to nutrition....most will not have much to say after that😀

    I am so glad to hear from a Cardiologist. I have been using coconut oil for about six months, on my face and body, cooking with it and using it in smoothies. I have stopped taking thyroid medication, I can't say enough good things about it. Coconut oil takes about three steps to get to the liver to be distributed and used, and about nineteen for canola oil. Dip a spoon in coconut oil and another in soybean oil, wash both in hot water only; the oil which washes more easily is the one you want to use.

    If coconut oil is so bad for you, then most people using it for bulletproof coffee are done! Seriously, it's difficult to know what to believe because for every video that supports coconut oil there is a video that tells the viewer opposite. Tom, thanks for this info.

    About a week ago I mentioned to a couple of co-workers I was using coconut oil and butter to make coffee and doing intermittent fasting. Not even 5 seconds later someone walked up and started touting the said report you referenced and how bad it (coconut oil) was. I chalk it up to the "crab in the pot" analogy. As soon as you start something and show some success, someone is bound to be jealous, or feel insecure and try and drag you back into the pot. Great post. Shared.

    Many people refuse to believe this but we NEED fat! My wife said without any fat our hair & skin would dry out and we would age much faster. She is right. She takes coconut oil, also eats other fats, and her skin is so smooth like a 20 year old. Hair shines bright. If you never eat one drop of fat, ever, no doubt your skin is wrinkly and you look much older than you are.

    Hey Thomas! Great to see you standing up for MCTs and saturated fats! I find it hilarious that people beat up on saturated fats so much, and then shove 400g of sugar loaded cereal in their cakehole. For hundreds of thousands of years, we as Hunter-gatherer Neanderthal lived primarily on meat and fats and marrow. Its one of the reasons Neanderthals DNA developed in way as to protect our immunity during extreme ice ages. Yet we've only had grain agriculture for the last 8,000 or so years. DNA mapping and programming takes tens of thousands of years to change and mutate/evolve. Our bodies are designed to run on MCTs and saturated fats. Their is the argument for carbs as feul in sports yes, but generally for the regular human, we can survive and thrive quite nicely without carbs. Seems prudent to mention the lab tests and experiments over the years that showed how cancer tumours grew in the presence of carbs, but shrivelled and died when fed only proteins and fats. Great to see you have an actual medical professional on your chann who actually understands nutritional science. Keep the awesome content coming 💪

      From my readings it is the polyunsaturated fats that are unstable when heated and although there are some in olive oil and avacado oil, there is not that much.
      Butter on the other hand is very low in polyunsaturates however, it show 3.3g per 100g of trans fats.
      Coconut oil looks very good though. Very low polyunsaturates, no transfats but a low smoke point. So, coconut oil used at low heats might now be my choice of oils.
      Eitherway, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

    • @purpleblueunicorn
      @purpleblueunicorn 7 лет назад +1

      No oil is good. Think about it, it takes 1400 olives to make 1 liter. It's all condensed energy with barely no nutrients or fiber. Olive oil is better than some other oils because of high anti-oxidants, but it's still 15% saturated. Olive oil is better than butter or lard or coconut. But at the end it's not good for the health and prevents arteries from stretching properly and you're better off as a human to get your fats from nuts.

    Awesome vlog Thomas 👌🏻👏🏻👍🏻 hey dude, more guess appearances with medical doctors is gonna be a great way to change the views of many. I'm in no way saying your knowledge is not valid because it definitely is, but just having doctors back you up would be a world game changer. Peace out from Australia 🇦🇺 keep up your great work 💪🏻✌🏻

    I am 100% with you on this I cook with coconut oil, and use it on the my skin, and hair. I LOVE the way it smells, and helps keep me healthy, and my skin, and hair looking amazing. I've been Carnivore more than 3 years, and I've lost nearly 100 lbs. When my fiance and I met last year in 2023, he thought I was about 40. Truth be told I'm 70, but feel 40. I'm very proud of that. I never felt better in my life, and pretty much have total recall. My plan is to stay this fit and healthy for as long as God gives me on this earth. God Bless.

    I'm sorry, but the argument is extremely flawed. Before anyone jumps the gun on me please note that I'm on the fence about coconut oil, simply because of the lack of studies, although I do lean towards it being unhealthy.
    Coconut oil is full of saturated fat, abnormally high concentrations of it. Saturated fat found naturally in things such as avocados, walnuts, peanuts... Have trace amounts of it inside, alongside with a ton of fibre (the point I'm making here is that with food we need to look at the wholefood as a pose to the nutrient). The same goes for sugar, its like comparing apple juice to apples, but instead, coconut oil to coconut, a refined food! Not naturally found in primal diets (not to say that our diet has to be 100% primal).
    Furthermore, the examples this doctor is making that 'as soon as margarine came out health got worse in the population' is quite pathetic; a wide range of things made our health worse and we can't pin it down to margarine.
    Looking at the studies in favor of coconut oil, there isn't enough control and the crieteria is poor, for example, they are comparing the fat in coconut oil to the fat consumption of a NORMAL diet... Guys, a 'normal diet' causes heart disease, 'normal' diets have raised plasma cholesterol... 'normal' is a terrible criteria.
    Where the main issue of coconut oil comes in (well, saturated fats specifically) is that they impair insulin sensitivity where the muscle fail to uptake glucose.
    People will wonder, why does a ketogenic diet work? It works as an unsustainable short term solution where a lot of water weight is lost and a little bit of fat; but often as soon as the 'keto person' eats carbs, they put of fat. Why? Because of all the saturated fat (but perhaps saturated fats from animal products only? Maybe its the animal protein?) that inhibits glucose uptake by the muscle.
    I personally have had days where I hve eaten a stupid amount of coconut oil, it tastes good, alongside with a normal amount of carbs. The next morning I lost 1 or 2 kg... This is misleading; I figured the reason is that the carbs got turned to fat instead of glygcogen, because... glycogen requires 3 grams of water for every gram of fat so its heavier! Fat is a very light weight form of energy storage... But of course we can't go by my personal experience.
    Actually read the studies; and read them; researchers try and fuck us over in the abstract and conclusion when you need to look at methods and results as well.
    The take away here:
    - Coconut oil is NOT a whole food; eat coconuts instead
    - Coconut oil as a source of fat is awesome... when compared to animal fat consumption (which comes with inflammatory baggage)
    - More studies are needed
    - This doctor is full of shit
    - My experience doesn't account for all
    Apoligies for grammatic errors, I cbf proof reading my post :)

    I have been using coconut oil for a long time, especially on my face and hands at night. I usually get organic virgin because I know it is best. But this last time I wasn't paying enough attention and the price was really good. So what I ended up with is two large jars of organic expeller pressed. I want to know if this still has any benefits. It doesn't even have any coconut smell or taste. But, it does still remain solid at room temperature.

      Avocado oil would be in the same category as olive oil. They are both filled with mono fats which are fine when you eat them from the actual avocado or olive but not pressed into an oil and then used heated because they still break down faster than saturated and oxidize quicker.

    • @erstam
      @erstam 7 лет назад

      I was looking for this question too. Avocado oil has a higher smoke point than coconut oil. Doesn't that mean it's better to cook with at high heat?

      So i just found a video Thomas did a year a go about oils. He talks about avocado oil. Great for high heat cooking like i was thinking. ruclips.net/video/DEh2yNKc410/видео.html

      Roekinn just stop eating too much fat, if you want to live go on a mostly plant based diet, it's the only PROVEN way atherosclerosis was reversed, Dr Kim A Willams President of the American College of Cardiology has actually published a study on it

    I know I will probably get slammed by supporters, but I will share a co-relation I see in my country India. People from Kerala (a small state in India) has coconut oil as staple food. They make everything in coconut oil, coocnut milk, coconut chutney etc. They are like the diabetes capital of India. While rest of India is like 5-9% diabetic, Kerala sees 20% people Diabetic! I personally feel Saturated Fat with high sugar is primary reason for diabetes there, but then you have to take your own call. Pendulum keeps shifting as far as health is concerned you decide which side you are on :).

    • @coza10
      @coza10 7 лет назад +10

      cbrcoder you are correct, the fat blocks the sugar from getting into the cells where it needs to go, which means it overloads the blood therefore causing diabetes. This is why you see high carb low fat plant based diets reversing heart disease and diabetes.
      Do you know anyone who makes their own coconut oil? No? Why not? Because it's nearly impossible to do it without the machinery to process %100 oil fat from a coconut. How you can promote any oil as healthy is ridiculous lol if you want the benefits of a coconut, eat a fucking coconut like we are meant to...

    • @MrPointIess

      Steve B that logic is so flawed. If something is extremely unhealthy in huge amounts, it is still reasonably unhealthy in moderate amounts. You wouldnt say that smoking one cigarette a day is perfectly healthy because its in moderation?
