Never anywhere in the manga or the show, is she confirmed to be a canonically black character. She was born in Japan. Of course she’s Asian. Not saying that other races cannot be born in Japan but in their country, they wouldn’t call her a full Japanese person if she was half something or a different race. Simply because she is an extremely good dancer and enjoys music they assume that she is due to racial stereotypes and self projection.
I could just imagine the K-Class of Legend Force Academy binge watching My Hero Academia. The six boys of K-Class have the same powers as the girls in Class 1-A. Ulysses Keulea has Ochaco Uraraka's gravity powers. Michael Baker has Momo Yayaorozu's power of creation. Todd Frocks is a frog person like Tsuyu Asui. Jack Heard has Kyoka Jiro's earphone jacks. Tony Griffin is as invisible as Toru Hagakure. Not only does William Dor-Rick have acid powers, but he's half-Aschidian, an alien with pink skin, curly horns and black eyes with golden irises. William's father's alien race looks exactly like Mina Ashido, and William had a lot of his father's looks. Tony's time-travelling grandfather Clark Shadow has given him the boxset of the entire Funimation dub of My Hero Academia from the future for his fourteenth birthday, so he and his dorm roommates could binge watch the whole series in the 2016-2017 school year before it even airs. William is homophobic and transphobic due to his father knowing full well about the anti-LGBT laws in the Gaedon Act in Galactic Law, enforced to prevent another Gender War that ended with the extinction of an entire race like what happened to the Gaedonians. He gets annoyed about the polymorph in W-Class, Riley Jenner, constantly changing genders. One of his anti-trans arguments would be that changing genders would be like changing races and how insulting it would be to everyone. Could you imagine how pissed off William would be when the Aschidian he's been following for seven seasons turns out to not be Aschidian at all?
It's the fact that she had the temerity to have pale skin under the pink coloring that they are bothered by. The fact that Mina Ashido can breakdance and apparently how she likes to act or her hero outfit means she's black 'coded'...when it was shown in full color that if she overuses her quirk her skin tone is actually pale under all the pink is what bothers them, her eyes also lose the black part a bit too and start to turn white...watch them realize that and start freaking out.

There are two boys teams per grade, four girls teams per grade, and the Y-Class and Z-Class for the best boy and girl graduates of the past six years. K-Class is one of the two Freshman boys class teams and its made up of boys with the same powers as the Class 1-A girls from My Hero Academia. My brother showed me something about this yesterday and I legit didn’t understand what was even happening. Until he explained they thought Mina Ashido (VERY black name, apparently…) was black due to her being colored differently in the manga. Which reminded me of Helck. There’s a character named Hyura who’s a darker color than everyone else. Because I’ve read manga forever, I knew that meant she wasn’t fair-skinned, but I assumed she was tan or dark skinned. Then I saw a cover with her on it and it turned out she was blue lol. I made a mistake, but at least it was with a non-human character in a fantasy world. And not thinking a Japanese woman with a Japanese name in a story set in Japan was black… I never thought anime would be infested with fake fans, but here we are
Its clear when most people are just Japanese in MHA, but one thing I love for MHA is the distinction, like the scene in the world heroes mission, with Rudy in the subway, also, pony girls like half American, and all might has spent time doing hero work in the US, and Stars and Stripes is an iconic anime and manga representation of an American anime hero. Personally I do like when race is inclusive with anime, but only when it’s seen as nothing more than what the author wanted this character to be.
Yea, it's kinda wack bc MHA DOES include more than just asian characters, but it's very clear when they aren't. Either through direct statement or by context (scene taking place in a different country entirely). I remember a while back there was a pin that had mina on it and she was drawn as a black character and everyone claimed it was from the creator. People in that comment thread were literally having a war over it.
I think the reason people think mina is black is because of her skin. What i mean is back in old days i believe when a person of color was shown in like a cartoon they wouldnt be black. Theyd be a completely different color. Like yellow or something.
I don't understand some people's need to have someone from their own race or nationality in another country's media, i've never once thought about manga or anime characters' races or nationalities, it's quite obvious they're usually japanese. Funny enough, this is much more racist than not making a black character in your story inside japan. There is nothing wrong on the basis alone, that you create characters based off your own experiences and thus country of origin (like you're much more comfortable to show culture and stuff, since you experienced it firsthand. While also not fearing that you might get things wrong), so its total bogus for these fans to expect the creator to mold after THEIR own selfish reasons, since nothing can excuse this type of behavior as sane and logical.
This is (or at least seems to be) exactly right.
She's Pink! How are some people this delusional?
Due to not receiving the proper medication, that’s why.

She's Japanese, and while yes, they can have some darker shades, very VERY few of them are actually what people would consider "Black" as far as characters and skin tone goes.

They send hate to people who make a tan character have slightly lighter skin and Probably the most scumy Is when someone took someone else’s fanart, made the female character black, reposted it and deleted my comment calling her/him out
Moral of story is that there are a whole bunch of losers on Pinterest
As a pinterest user, what i hate is that having a different opinion that doesn't favour liberal stuff automatically makes you a other,or the bad one.

It doesnt even make sense for mina ashido to be black
Also why does it even matter
it makes no difference what race mina ashido is, she's still mina ashido
And that’s because she IS the moment, she IS an ICON, and she’s never been a waitress but IS always serving 💅✨✨✨
I remember a while back there was a pin that had mina on it and she was drawn as a black character and everyone claimed it was from the creator. People in that comment thread were literally having a war over it.
Yeah, I'm not surprised
Holy, nonway people are that dense. Some anime fans are stuck in their heads can't even enjoy what's in front of them
I think the reason people think mina is black is because of her skin. What i mean is back in old days i believe when a person of color was shown in like a cartoon they wouldnt be black. Theyd be a completely different color. Like yellow or something.
I'm pretty sure that's where "black-coded" characters came from
I don't understand some people's need to have someone from their own race or nationality in another country's media, i've never once thought about manga or anime characters' races or nationalities, it's quite obvious they're usually japanese.
I'm mexican, and if a foreigner reads mexican novels and comics or watches mexican shows and movies, they're also gonna find that we usually have mexican characters, this is all pretty obvious
What is wrong with people on twitter? People are sick in their head, and that website shows exactly why humanity is irredeemable
My hero fans always be tripping when it turns out their headcanons are just that, headcanons.
These are the same people who had actual meltdowns when they thought Bakugo died.
Imagine this situation with Mirko...
They better keep my tan bunny queen’s name of their filthy mouths!
um the entire school is asian like really wtf
Pony girl is American. Or something like that. She's not Japanese like the others

@@dallasdragneelI could be wrong but I think she's mixed
Aoyama may be French. Haven't looked it up
@@MrBulldog714 no he's Japanese as far as I'm aware, he's just weird
I wish you had made a video about the return of our GOAT Gentle Criminal!…. At least I would have been happy to hear about the video instead of hearing about some fools on twitter complaining about a skin color
Y’all if they made an AFRICAN cartoon for AFRICAN people,
They are 100% Irish 😌
I saw this as a meme, I didn't expect this as something serious like wtf
I thought this was a joke... It's times like these that I'm proud I stopped looking at Twitter.
Why is it that every character who does not have a normal skin tone is apparently black coded? Like. Character is pink? Apparently they're black. Character is green? Apparently they're black. Character is blue? Apparently they're black. It's weird.
I'm happy that my one of my fav. MHA characters is a fellow asian.
If a character has light pink skin they are going to have light skin, even if converted into human race colours (?). so it's not that far removed from being pale or a light bronze/olive colour.
