- The discovery of Alzheimer's disease
In this video I jump into the discovery of Alzheimer's disease. I explain who Alois Alzheimer's was and how his observations in Auguste Deter led to the first correlation between histological markers and neurological symptoms. Auguste Deter had severe symptoms including memory loss and confusion, these steadily progressed until her death 1906. Alois performed a Silver stain on sections of her brain and identified the three histological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease : Amyloid plaques, neurofibrillary and neuroinflammation. These symptoms and histological features are now defined as Alzheimer's disease the most common form dementia.
