The 7 year warranty is a little misleading, things like the infotainment system are only covered for the first 3 years, engine, gearbox, suspension etc for 3 years, the only thing that seems to be covered from year 4 onwards is anti-perforation and the high voltage battery is actually covered for 8 years & 100k miles, so I wouldn’t be crowing about a 7 year warranty giving peace of mind for a brand that seems to be unreliable, when not much is actually covered after 3 years
@ Very true, I was merely making a point as he said MG finished bottom for the last 2 years in a row for reliability and then mentioned that you get a 7 year warranty, as if to ease any potential fears, because the warranty really isn’t a full 7 year coverage of the things that’ll likely go wrong
Spot on! I’ve recently discovered a very similar situation with the MG ZS (Petrol variant). That being said, I’m yet to hear of any warranty which doesn’t start to degrade/ become more difficult to claim under over its term. The MG warranty does appear to be one of the worst.
@ I definitely agree, Kia’s 7 years does reduce what’s covered but essentially, MG are advertising a 3 year warranty as a 7 year warranty and unless you do your research, none of the dealers actually tell you
All European car brands are rubbish - except for Porsche's 911 model. All European car brands are losing tremendous value as a used vehicle in the US, while in China they are being bought less (with huge discounts when buying new vehicles) and less every year. If you want to believe in fairy tales about the "superiority" of Europe and the "subhumans" from China - go ahead. You have to understand that nothing is eternal, not human life, not one's eternal domination. How exactly a control that you can't even feel contributes to safety is beyond me.
7:31 Hold on a second. This bothers me with modern cars. They design and make it with a space for the spare tyre. Then they decide to sell it without a spare and use that space for other systems that can't be removed so you can't put a spare in there.

The average car price in the UK is £35k. So £20k is definitely cheap. Especially as most people will lease rather than buy outright. But, to be clear, a car has always been second only to a house as the most expensive purchase you are likely to make in your lifetime. With the average yearly wage in the UK being less than £32k cars have never been ACTUALLY cheap. But they can be RELATIVELY cheap. You can get four MG3s for the price of one Diesel Land Rover Sport.

Pure electric vehicles are fundamentally more efficient than hybrids due to basic physics and engineering principles. Electric motors convert about 85-90% of their energy to motion, while internal combustion engines typically achieve only 20-30% efficiency. This isn't a matter of opinion - it's thermodynamics. In a hybrid system like the MG3's, you're carrying both powertrains, which means: 1. Extra weight from having two complete systems 2. Energy losses from converting between them 3. Mechanical complexity that reduces overall system efficiency 4. Additional points of failure and maintenance requirements The electric motor in a hybrid has to be sized smaller to accommodate the combustion engine, which means it can't deliver the full performance potential of electric propulsion. Meanwhile, the combustion engine operates sub-optimally because it has to work around the hybrid system. The laws of physics make it impossible for a hybrid to match the efficiency of a pure electric drivetrain - every energy conversion step introduces losses. While hybrids made sense as a transitional technology 15 years ago when battery technology and charging infrastructure were less developed, today they represent an unnecessary compromise given the capabilities of modern electric vehicles.
I'm learning something. What about those PHEV from BYD (I think the same for this MG too), apparently it is powered by battery with a fuel generator for charging the battery for extended range? I'm confused about all these different types of hybrid.
@ There are indeed different types of hybrids, but they all share the same fundamental flaws. The BYD system you're referring to (and similar setups) is called a 'series hybrid' or 'range extender' - where the petrol engine acts solely as a generator rather than directly driving the wheels. Whilst this might sound cleverer than traditional 'parallel' hybrids like the MG3, it's still carrying around a complete petrol engine, fuel tank and all the associated complexity just to charge the battery. You're essentially lugging around an entire petrol-powered generator that adds weight, requires maintenance, and still keeps you tied to fossil fuels. It's rather like carrying a petrol generator in your boot to power your home appliances instead of just using the mains electricity - unnecessarily complex and inefficient. If you need extended range, modern pure EVs already offer 300+ miles on a single charge. The answer isn't to add a petrol engine - it's to invest in better batteries and charging infrastructure.
'you don't need to know any of that' - yes, we do. This ia a fairly novel setup, and remarkable for a sub 20k car. Hybrid yet mainly range extending? NA engine - a big reliability gain.
194hp is way more power than required for an entry level hatch. It will mean higher insurance payments and parents will think twice about buying it for their kids. It’s great that a sporty option exists but a 80hp version would also be nice to include.
I wonder how much of that value is left after a year of ownership. These cars do not hold up because all the Chinese EVs do, are copy and not develop, hence no durability testing.
I work at a mg car dealership and I suggest you stay away from any mgs they are awful and always have problems even brand new cars we had a mg3 demo lasted 3 weeks so stay away and save your money
I wouldn't call the Q3 big Interior space is abysmal if you are 180cm or taller. Luggage even worse It's a really small car from the inside, but almost mid-size from the outside to make parking less convenient
@@someguy9520i dont know which Q3 you are talking about but i drive a Q3 (this exact model) since years now and i can fit in easily with my 187 cm 😅 I have no panoramic window but those are bad in any car as a taller person The boot space could be ordered without a replacement wheel (which i did back then) and it offers loads of space! I mean its still ok to sit in the backseat but you have to really bump up the car models to really get more space in the back So i am sorry - i cannot comprehend your argument here 😊 The Q3 from back then is a perfectly good car 😊
@@vezne45 That is absolutely not what people mean when talking about how many speeds an auto has. Most modern autos have 7 forward ratios or more, Ford even sell cars with a 10-speed. A 3 speed in this application does seem strange, but I think the fact the electric motor is driving the wheels most of the time means that's not particularly relevant. Most EVs have a single speed fixed reduction gear.
The all-new MG3 Hybrid exemplifies why hybrids are fundamentally flawed as a concept. By attempting to bridge the gap between combustion engines and electric drivetrains, it ends up delivering the worst of both worlds. The internal combustion engine adds weight, complexity, and ongoing maintenance demands, while the electric component struggles with underwhelming range and lacklustre performance. Instead of excelling at anything, it compromises everything, resulting in a vehicle that is neither efficient enough for eco-conscious drivers nor practical enough for traditionalists. This isn't unique to the MG3 Hybrid; hybrid cars, in general, are a technological half-measure. They fail to embrace the efficiency and simplicity of fully electric vehicles while clinging to the outdated inefficiency of fossil fuels. Why settle for mediocrity when the future clearly belongs to dedicated EV platforms? A hybrid isn't innovation-it's procrastination.
@ 'Affordable' only if you ignore the total cost of ownership. Beyond the initial purchase price, hybrids burden owners with servicing two powertrains-both the petrol engine's routine maintenance (oil changes, timing belts, filters) and the hybrid system's components (battery degradation, complex electronics). Factor in lower resale values as pure EVs become mainstream, and that supposed affordability quickly evaporates. As for practicality, there's nothing practical about carrying around two complete drive systems just to achieve what a proper EV does with one.
You know why you have to pull a lever inside the car to open the fuel cap? In just about every other country. You don't have to fill your own car. Someone does it for you like in the good old days in England.

The 7 year warranty is a little misleading, things like the infotainment system are only covered for the first 3 years, engine, gearbox, suspension etc for 3 years, the only thing that seems to be covered from year 4 onwards is anti-perforation and the high voltage battery is actually covered for 8 years & 100k miles, so I wouldn’t be crowing about a 7 year warranty giving peace of mind for a brand that seems to be unreliable, when not much is actually covered after 3 years
Always whining about reliability as if European cars don't have the same issues.

In a hybrid system like the MG3's, you're carrying both powertrains, which means:
1. Extra weight from having two complete systems
2. Energy losses from converting between them
3. Mechanical complexity that reduces overall system efficiency
4. Additional points of failure and maintenance requirements
The electric motor in a hybrid has to be sized smaller to accommodate the combustion engine, which means it can't deliver the full performance potential of electric propulsion.
0:35 Wow, how real…
'you don't need to know any of that' - yes, we do. This ia a fairly novel setup, and remarkable for a sub 20k car. Hybrid yet mainly range extending? NA engine - a big reliability gain.
194hp is way more power than required for an entry level hatch. It will mean higher insurance payments and parents will think twice about buying it for their kids. It’s great that a sporty option exists but a 80hp version would also be nice to include.

Hybrids are much more affordable and practical.
Don't forget the rims looks like the focus st
