Another great review. Everyone seems to have a very positive opinion of this rifle. It will be interesting to see if this rifle will ever become as ubiquitous as the AR.
I got used to the ergos on the M-4 as a lefty. It's a bit weird, but left index finger reaches the bolt release and my right thumb goes to the mag release. Sweeping a standard safety is more work but it can be done. I prefer the ambi 45 degree though.
I was able to sample this gun in it's 13" configuration and it is amazing and with its modularity, it is easier for me to justify the $4K price tag. Plan on getting extra barrels in different calibers.
I am curious if SIG will apply their hybrid case technology to 5.56... Imagine a SIG spear LT in 5.56 using hybrid 5.56. .... The Sig Spear in 6.8 is a dmr rifle.
@@Patrioticduder there is already the hybrid case 6.8 on the market, unfortunately it’s not loaded to the same high pressure that the military is using. So far the spec on the military ammo isn’t released, the bullet is supposedly some new top secret design and along with the 20% higher chamber pressure makes it quite the spicy solution.😊
Hopefully in a few years we'll have a good 1-10 for battle rifles like this. For now the 1-8 vcog probably suits this thing best. It's only 4 ozs heavier and 34mm of forged 7075, indestructible compared to all the billet 6061 30mm's out there. Crayon proof as the kids say.
@grafja I don't know for sure because the scope is insanely expensive but I think the SB dual CC might be the way of the future. But yeah 1-10 scopes are not ready for prime time. That's why vortex made a 1-8 for the army.
Ever since I graduated OSUT a couple weeks ago I’ve been watching vids of this thing. The M4s we had (they were old obviously) did what they needed to do but I’m looking forward to getting to possibly be apart of a new Army.
Great review. Nice gun in an excellent caliber. Yes, there’s other calibers outperforming 308 in every aspect, but few others offering the versatility and availability.
While I'm not a .308 guy myself, I think people vastly underappreciate the importance of cost. I've had buddies buy 'niche' caliber AR's before...and guess what they never shoot? No one's enthusiasm can support $2-3-5 per round...unless you're backed by Patreon. All my buddies who own those niche calibers still go to the range and just shoot 5.56. New "wonder" rounds are completely irrelevant when they're too expensive to shoot. .308 will remain the cheapest option by far for those looking for something with more punch.
I will still prefer an M1A over this, but i like that they are moving from the buffer tube for internal recoil spring. You bend that tube, it is inopperable till you fix it. But the military took the M16 for the lighter to carry 5.56x45 and frame. To go back to heavier frames and ammo seams redundant.
The XM7 only gets issued to Close Combat forces. All others get the M4. The XM7 gets the Vortex smart scope which is a next gen Tracking Point. So it’s really a system which significantly increases Ph/Pk. Although ideally hopefully the Army will field new ranges like the new USMC ranges.
Pentagon just finding excuses where to spend their billions, they have no idea what is needed in battle. Go ask the Ukranians if they want to switch to this rifle or get more artillery ammo. In a possible war with either China or Russia small arms won't even matter in battle.

I have this rifle, the scar, LMT, and HK762. In order HK, SCAR, MCX Spear, LMT. Hk is the BEST in class 308 gun available today from reliability, to accuracy and all in between it’s simply the best. The SCAR is second due to reliability and just a smooth shooting experience, the spear is great has the most modularity but some QC issues keep it in 3rd and the LMT is 4th due to the fact it does nothing better than any of the others. It’s great but doesn’t shock and awe.

That rifle makes way more sense to me in 7.62 than the Fury round. I don't care what kind of metal the barrel is made of, an 80,000 psi MAP round is going to mean short barrel life.
Yeah, "commercial" Fury is pretty 'soft' compared to what they've expressed interest in with the military round. That thing is going to kick, and going to break stuff.
Not for the price that Sig is asking for this rifle. Plenty of other companies making AR-10's with the same or better quality. I'll take my POF over this or HK any day
Were there gases coming from around the T handle charger or is that only something associated with DI carbines? I would be inclined to prefer some sort of block of plate for that.
This is probably one of the best rifles I will never give a shit about. Too heavy. Too expensive. Also, that barrel should be at least 18" for realizing impressive results. A 16" barrel does not make sense for this rifle. Great review... right up to the point of failure.
Alright ginger snaps!!! .308 is by far the best battle round ever made!!!! I'm an AK guy but to me the 😊 M1A SOCOM 16 CQB is right now the best battle rifle on the market. Having said that I haven't tried the SIG spear yet,I can't wait!!!
I think 308s make a lotta sense in semi autos still. I can’t afford as much as most so to me it don’t matter lol, but I hear 6.5 burns some barrels out, also 308 does basically the same thing as 6.5 out to like 500-600, which is way farther than most ppl have the availability to shoot on anyway. 6.5 comes into its own after that for sure but I think the whole 6.5 should replace 308 in EVERY regard is kinda silly.
Nah, that used to be the case about 10-15 years ago when manufacturers rarely produced .308 intended for 16" barrels. Now, multiple companies make 'carbine' style .308 for use with 16" barrels.
Hard to use that side charger with the stock folded, but the t handle charge handle will still charge rifle. Not a bad design, your particular use is not the only scenario.
The military is not going to make this a primary gun. It's too heavy and too much recoil. Just like the FBI getting away from the 10mm, this will end up being a “ specialty” weapon.
The military gun is going to be a 13” gun and they want the ability to defeat modern body armor, the 13” gun will be pushing a 150ish grain round at 3k fps from that short barrel. With the new advanced combat optic that is getting paired with this rifle I believe the new philosophy is going to be focused on more precise fire so having a little less ammo isn’t going to be as big of a deal. Supposedly sig’s new hybrid case shaves a lot of weight from a full size cartridge. The military issue rifle also uses extensive amounts of titanium on the rifle.
Seems even a regular pressure 6.8x51 round would be better than .308 ballistically for base ammo. I think the BC of the 135gr is .475 and a velocity of 2750 fps for 16in barrel. Seems pretty good.
@@theimmortal4718 As long as it's piston driven, you're good. The gases from a direct impingement AR10/15 go directly into the action and down into the magazine. This fouling will literally create a headspace change with each successive chambering and under high volume fire will cause a jam requiring hunters to clean in the field...at night, possibly. I'd prefer a side charger on hogs because the gun would be on sticks or in a tripod making any potential malfunctions easier to clear with a thermal mounted on top and making reloading easier. The LWRC Repr weighs 22lbs in contrast to the Spear weighing 11lbs fully loaded with optic. I have a POF Revolution CMR 308 16" that's between those two weights as I've configured it. It's a great gun for hogs.
@@tacticalmattfoley What? I've used the M16 for decades and have never had that problem, while shooting mag after mag in combat. Hog shooters are shooting what? A few dozen rounds at most? @@theimmortal4718 The US military industrial complex is not supplying hog hunters with ammo. So, we've gotta shoot whatever we can afford. Most steel case isn't clean and most mil-surp is worse. The best 308 ammo for the money is made by GGG from Lithuania. Most hog hunters use soft-point steel case from Tula. Many have even gone to a chambering in 7.62x39 due to ammo prices, 30rnd+ mags instead of 20rnd mags, and weight of guns. A hog is much harder to kill than a human. I've seen hogs take up to six 308 rounds at one time before expiring....running like Usain Bolt the entire time.
The problem i think the initial spears are gonna have is that they are in 308 with a 13 in barrel. Its gonna lack in accuracy at range. If i want something that is close range and hits like a truck im gonna want it in the 277 fury which should have a better muzzle velocity. If i want range it would be 308 but i would want a longer barrel, probably 16 to 18 inch.
How big is the difference between the height of the post for the stock and the barrel height. What made all ARs so nice was it hit a good shot group in burst or full because it was a straight line from barrel to top of stock. It helped keeping it from rising. If there's any difference it will show on burst or full auto.
I love the MCX! If I could afford even one MCX not to mention have an AR15-sized and AR10-sized MCX with multiple uppers in multiple calibers, I would do that! Unfortunately, the MCX is NOT the best answer for most of us!!! WAY TO MUCH BUCK FOR YOUR BANG!!! Luckily, we don't have to have just one... and... we can have multiple uppers. Keep your 5.56 upper, and build or buy uppers for other calibers that make sense for you. You don't need Gucci guns, just functioning, reliable guns!!! I'm glad you are steering people away from the 6mm ARC; IT IS THE ANSWER, and the more people you drive away from it, the more ammo for me!!! Lately, I'm loving 6mm ARC as a do-everything cartridge for the AR15; it works amazingly on everything from varmints to mule deer. It makes the AR15 practical and valuable!!! 6mm ARC has the potential to make people more familiar with their rifles and develop a much higher level of marksmanship as they use them for more things than just tactical classes. AR10s are also heavy and unwieldy for a tiny framed person. Even SOCCOM doesn't like carrying them. I Second what others are saying about having a .308 bolt gun... for ammo availability... but there are much better rounds out there if you are going to stock and carry something else... The nice thing is you can also have multiple AR10 uppers. For the cost of the MCX rifles you have there, I can have an AR15 with 5.56, 300 AAC, and 6mm ARC uppers, AND... an AR10 with .308, 6.5 CM, and .243 Winchester uppers. I could even have a second "pistol" upper in calibers for which that makes. With this arrangement, I can use commonly available ammo (whatever I can find or reload), AND ...which is most appropriate for my application. The best part is that I have much more flexibility and I've spent much less money! About the .277 Sig Fury, it can't be part of the conversation until we can readily get Rifles, Barrels, and Ammo. Final thought, if you need a piston gas operating system for whatever reason, build your uppers using Adams arms kits or something similar... you'll still but much less money into it that a SIG.

Another great review. Everyone seems to have a very positive opinion of this rifle.
It will be interesting to see if this rifle will ever become as ubiquitous as the AR.
Not at that price. Its still an amazing rifle I'd love to get my hands on though.
There have been issues with the handguard on the MCX series that SIG still hasn't managed to figure out. They can become off-centered way too easily.
@@MatthewsSloan My guess would be that IF they become that popular prices would come down.
@@ostiariusalpha Uhg, I figured something was going to pop up. Hope it’s rectified soon.
@@Jason_The_Man seeing as it's just starting it's lifecycle as a military service rifle, it's only a matter of time.

I mean a staccato xc is $4000. Makes this look like a good deal😅
I got used to the ergos on the M-4 as a lefty. It's a bit weird, but left index finger reaches the bolt release and my right thumb goes to the mag release. Sweeping a standard safety is more work but it can be done. I prefer the ambi 45 degree though.
$5k is too much for this. One has been sitting at my local store for weeks now.

My new favourite guntuber. Another great review.
I apreciate that you review the spectra of guns from low priced to high priced.
I was able to sample this gun in it's 13" configuration and it is amazing and with its modularity, it is easier for me to justify the $4K price tag. Plan on getting extra barrels in different calibers.
It's 4 moa.
Thanks!
thanks man!
That was a fast 1000 round review. Must have really enjoyed shooting it.
I am curious if SIG will apply their hybrid case technology to 5.56... Imagine a SIG spear LT in 5.56 using hybrid 5.56. .... The Sig Spear in 6.8 is a dmr rifle.
6.8 spc
Doubt it and doubt we will be able to get the bimetal in 6.8 anytime soon
@@Patrioticduder what do you mean? The bi-metal case is the brass with steel base right? That’s already out.
@@chrisjosekuehl I saw some of Sig’s 277 Fury on the self the other day, the hybrid case type, and it was $2 a round!
I've owned sig m400 enhanced, s&w m&p15 mid moe and my favorite of all 3 my Armalite M153GN18
The 13in spear is a 0-700m rifle with a 1-8 scope. At the 700m it might be somewhat difficult to find targets but the rifle is capable with good ammo.
@ivaniuk123 SB dual CC is the way to go in the 1-8x class.
Ever since I graduated OSUT a couple weeks ago I’ve been watching vids of this thing. The M4s we had (they were old obviously) did what they needed to do but I’m looking forward to getting to possibly be apart of a new Army.
Clearly a jam at 6:25 right when you said there was "no reliability issues".
Sig paid. Just like everyone else who touched one of these.
Sadly that's probably more accurate than not, even from the "honest" outlaw. Money is what makes men act funny.

@@oskar6661 Amen brother. I can stomach $0.85 for good quality all-brass M80 ball much easier than any 6.5 cartridge I've seen.
For now
I will still prefer an M1A over this, but i like that they are moving from the buffer tube for internal recoil spring. You bend that tube, it is inopperable till you fix it.
But the military took the M16 for the lighter to carry 5.56x45 and frame.
To go back to heavier frames and ammo seams redundant.
Luckily they make sig spear LT in 556 :)
That was because of the Vietnam war 5.56 is a shitty caliber when compared to what other rifle rounds are out there
Thanks for another fine review, though WAY outta my budget. Please do the SFAR soon, and I'm patiently waiting for the 1k on the Smith FPC.
Then why did’t they go with 300 Blackout? Seems like the perfect caliber for this SBR.
source?
@@michaellabus6742 I think but don’t quote me on this as I don’t have any experience with .300blk, that the .277 or whatever it is. Is better at penetrating modern body armor
@@michaellabus6742A year late, but the answer is velocity. The combat loading for 6.8x51 comes screaming out of the 13-inch M7 at roughly 3,000fps, and you aren't getting anywhere near that with .300 Blackout.
I got the Sig 716i and have been pretty happy with it so far. No way I'm spending 4,500 on a rifle. Optics, yeah maybe. But not just a rifle.
I have the 716i also. I put a Vortex Strike Eagle 1×6 on it. Haven't shot it yet. Looking forward to it.
Been waiting for this one !
To me it seems like a xcr has been doing all this for a long time. I wonder how they compare.
I agree completely. They are even comparable in weight. However, the XCR has more caliber options and they are actually available. No T handle on the XCR which I prefer.
I’d like to see an unbiased comparison, given no one has done one I can find.

Cool rifle. Big doubt it will completely replace the M4 entirely. Cuz ya know, its basically M14 2.0. But we'll see.

The average load out for a M4 is 9 lbs and way lighter ammo is being replaced by a rifle thats 5 lbs heavier and you can carry near as much ammo. No thanks. Still a awesome review and it may be a great rifle but for battle use I'll stick with my AR
With the hybrid case ammo a lot of that weight goes away
@@mehicanbls1526 doesn't make the rifle lighter or solve the volume problem with the ammo.
I saw one of these on sale for the great price of $7000
That rifle makes way more sense to me in 7.62 than the Fury round. I don't care what kind of metal the barrel is made of, an 80,000 psi MAP round is going to mean short barrel life.
Noting that the majority of ammo currently available in 277 Fury are downloaded so they are ballistically similar to 6.5 Creedmoor...
Yeah, "commercial" Fury is pretty 'soft' compared to what they've expressed interest in with the military round. That thing is going to kick, and going to break stuff.

Which you would review the Ruger SFAR
I wouldnt waste .308 out of a 16" barrel...18" or 20" would have been a better choice IMO
Nah, that used to be the case about 10-15 years ago when manufacturers rarely produced .308 intended for 16" barrels. Now, multiple companies make 'carbine' style .308 for use with 16" barrels.

I'm sure people were saying similar things about the Thompson sub machine gun in the late 20s before WW2 happened
I want it in about 10 years in 6.8x51mm when both the gun and ammo are (hopefully) much more common and affordable.
This would be a hammer on wild hogs.
What would be the difference between one 16" 308 and another on hogs?
@@tacticalmattfoley
What? I've used the M16 for decades and have never had that problem, while shooting mag after mag in combat.
Hog shooters are shooting what? A few dozen rounds at most?
I doubt it would matter whether you used a 1000 dollar rifle or a 7000 dollar rifle.
It's just not that important
@@tacticalmattfoley
That revolution is a real cool gun

I just shot a MP-10 , wish you would do a Review for that Gun!
You lost me on this one.
Hahah why
How that?
How big is the difference between the height of the post for the stock and the barrel height.
What made all ARs so nice was it hit a good shot group in burst or full because it was a straight line from barrel to top of stock. It helped keeping it from rising. If there's any difference it will show on burst or full auto.
Awesome review as usual.
This thing is a beast in modern warfare 3 lol. It’s called the BAS-B in the game.
