I just got my set yesterday on sale at Best Buy and I’m loving them. I previously owned some really awesome Klipsch towers but had to leave them behind in Hawaii when I moved to Texas. I made a brief dalliance into soundbars and grew to miss the clarity and depth of separates. Soundbars work well in bedrooms but I prefer my new separates system in the family room. Having 7.1 Polk speakers connected just makes a world of listening difference. Great review. I’m a little late to the party but I’m glad I finally made it! 👍🏼
bought a pair of Polk towers in 1999 from Circuit City. The salesman explained that each instrument in the recording was easy to recognize. Still have them and it is still true.
Got a pair of these running off a Yamaha as500 integrated amp, audio technica turntable and an older rotel CD player. in the living-room of my 1000sq ft apartment they rock!! lol
I appreciate your honest evaluation. You are right about Best Buy's listening environment. NO speakers sound as good there as they will at home. I have had the chance to compare (in my home) the Pioneer SP-FS52's to Polk Monitor series, tower speakers (a step earlier and below the T50's) and I clearly preferred the Polks, which I believe have been underrated. Too often, after higher-end speaker companies have prospered (for example, Infinity and NHT) they are taken over by or sold to a larger concern that does not maintain the original standards. It is refreshing to see that in the case of Polk, mass production can be done according to established standards and the product offered to the public at bargain prices due to the larger number sold.
Hi, I'm from Rio de Janeiro. I'm supporting a friend to buy a pair of front speakers for their home theater. I listened to the Yamaha NS-F51, 555 and 777, and I didn't like any of them. I found the sound metallic and with harmonics mixing. I listened to two Polk models, S50 and T50, and I really liked the cost-benefit of the T50, considering it far superior to any of the 3 Yamaha I heard. I looked more for the T50 and so I got to your video, which came to ratify my thinking. I have 2 Lando LX-4000 speakers box (Brazilian with imported speakers) from the 80's. They were Top at the time and continue to serve me well on my HT, as they have an incredible definition. They present a balanced and well-defined sound like few others and, through experience with it, I feel free to analyze other modern ones. I'll keep looking, but for the price and quality, I think the T50 will serve my friend well, who doesn't want to spend a lot. Congratulations on your channel and your knowledge, surely obtained through a lot of study.
A few things. First, I apologize for the shoddy focus work in this video. I was going to re-film the whole thing once I discovered the issue, but the notion of starting from scratch is not a pleasant one - especially when you use no script. In the end, I decided that the show must go on! Next, I didn't cover the performance of the product as thoroughly as I normally do. I got caught up sharing my enthusiasm instead, so just in case my video wasn't clear enough, here is a very short snapshot of what the T50's bring to the table: Presentation type: These speakers have a a laid-back presentation that errs towards the warm side of the tonal scale. Treble: On an A/V receiver, the treble can get a touch 'hot' on some recordings. On a proper hi-fi system however, the treble is remarkably balanced. These speakers do a great job of capturing the 'air' around an instrument. What I like the most about them is how they are neither overly smooth or overly boosted. Midrange: The midrange on the T50's take on a warm, meaty character. All in all, I'd say the tone is fairly natural for a speaker at this price-point. The only issue here is that the upper midrange/lower treble tends to beam a little, which is a natural byproduct of the waveguide design. Bass: If you set these speakers directly on the floor, the bass is fat, meaty, and tout for their size. However, should you take the time to place them on a solid foundation (like a 2 inch thick cutting board) and pay careful attention to their positioning, the bass on these speakers transforms into something that's incredibly quick and tuneful. Polk Audio's decision to go with passive radiators certainly pays dividends when you set the speakers up like this. Imaging: These speakers throw out a pretty wide soundstage, but don't expect them to make it sound as though there's a live band playing in your living room. All in all, the image depth will be more or less limited to the speakers physical position. Power Handling: Very good for a set of two-way loudspeakers. They should be fine for most people who plan on using these speakers in average sized listening rooms and at reasonable listening volumes. As I said in the review, the T50's aren't for people who want to blast their music or movies at insane SPL's. This is a matter of quality over quantity. Alright guys, that just about covers it! Thanks for watching and.. erm..reading!
I have a 5.1 setup with the t15s after running across your channel I am now sold on switching these out for the fronts. I didn't even know they existed and now I'm amazed they you keep them around next to speakers with way higher price points. Thanks for sharing!
+Matt Burns - I just hooked up the T50's again after months of seeing them collect dust. My impressions haven't changed one bit. I hope you enjoy your T50's!
+ALEJANDRO KITSCH - They sound excellent with vinyl / stereo listening. :) To answer your question: most speakers tend to sound better on components that are dedicated to stereo listening. Of course, there are a few exceptions to what I just said, but by and large, that's usually how it goes. Your standard A/V receiver will get the job done, but if you want to hear what something is actually capable of, that's when a good integrated amp or a separate pre-amp / amp combo will get the job done even better.
I agree completely with your fair and accurate review, well done. Mine arrived today and I'm completely blown away. Polk got it right. This was exactly what I was looking for in a budget tower & leaned heavily on this and other reviews for my purchase. Many thanks & keep up the great work. Douglas Y.
I have the whole set of the t series and they sound great I watch a lot of movies and the don't distort and there great with music I hear sound from older song that I didn't hear on other speakers I have would recommend the t series to anyone who like big sound
Sean, amazing work!! As always. In the video you talked about a certain german brand without naming it. I don´t know if you were referring to these I´m going to suggest you for some future video if you consider them worth: -Numan Reference 801 -Teufel Ultima 40 mkIII These are gorgeous speakers and in a price range that would appeal to the majority of us. But sound wise, it would be great to hear your opinion about them. Just suggestions. You can´t answer to all of us :D keep up the great work!
I bought a pair of Klipsch RP-8000Fs about a year ago and I really like them with certain types of music but with music i like best like hard rock and metal they just killed me on the highs. Well I got a pair of these for $150 a pair from Best Buy for black friday last year for my office and I started to notice how much more balanced these were and sounded better over all. Sure they aren't as dynamic and can't fill a room on music like Steely Dan and Classical music but they sounded really good on a wider range of music. I since bought a set of RP-600Ms for my office and put the Polk in the living room. They match extremely well with my 12" Klipsch sub. The RP-8000s are sitting in my spare room. My wife of course is giving me crap since my $1500 speakers are collecting dust while I listen to the $150 speakers.
your right I have heard these speakers. they sound amazing in a small to medium room. I heard them at best buy and to surprise you they sounded wonderful and I was sold on them. nice and honest review
i discover polk audio when i first purchase a PC in 1997. it came with it. i the speaker was so small and when i listen to music it was so well balance. the vocal was so nice. i used to buy only pioneer and sony brand. now polk audio is added to my list. pioneer is good for super loud and crystal clear. polk for some reason has slightly better higher end for instrumental. i listen to instrumental a lot.
After watching and reading all reviews I could find, I bought these today. Did not know the audiophile level Im actually at. Had and still have DIY 20ltr closed box 2-way rigid MDF cabins with scrap metal cheap dayton audio 2-way elements and 24db/oct crossover at 2k. These parts cost me around 50 USD for a pair (speaker boxes excluded). Got sick of trying to tune down harsh highs and just under 2k the woofer only on paper could produce. T50 sounded like a good solution to pay off my problems. Instead got the worst sounding speakers I ever had! NOTHING is ok with these. 1. Bass goes low, but sounds like migrane. 2. Mid bass does not excist. 3. A subwoofer wont help you, unless you use it to replace bass from 120hz... (then you should have two of them, each next to one of T50's.) 4. Excluding low fq, the sound is balanced, but sounds like you are using your old computer's motherboard as your DAC.
Wow.. wow.. Thank you for the review.. i got them only on the basis of your review and i am so shocked at how good they are.. music.. im listening to some instrumental via spotify premium and the speakers are just singing.. so good!
+Zero Fidelity Thanks again. Now I'm considering getting a second pair because somehow my def tech studio monitors 55 don't sound as musical!! Is there another set of towers that you can recommend that sounds better. I mean I'm shocked that the T50's treble sound so sweet without an EQ.. They really are insane.. Hope to hear from you soon.. Cheers.
I can't think of anything that I prefer to the T50's at their price point. Now if you're willing to drop more money, then I think the ELAC F5's or F6's may be a worth considering. They are a little smoother on top, but offer overall better performance. I have the F6's with me right now and I can honestly say they are quite special for the $$.
Went out and got another pair!. Its all your fault! Im replacing my 2 year old def tech studio monitor 55 bookshelves with these. The difference is night and day between them for music. I don't know why. I read good reviews on Stereophile and even Mr. Audiophillac on Cnet said good things about the SM55. Im listening to spyrogyra now off spotify and the T50's are so smooth. Every single instrument can be heard.. Quick question. If i place the T50 on the thermocol packing that the speakers came in, would it suffice instead of the 2 inch wood plank? I have hard tile floors. Thanks.
I know this is an old video... But if you can answer... How do thess compare to the R40 towers from Polk Audio. They have 2 5-1/4 drivers.. No passive radiators.. and the same, or very similar tweeter. Is the R40 a better or equal speaker to the T50
I may have made this comment before, if I have I apologize in advance. I bought a pair of these from Frys Electronics before the COVID-19 pandemic, for a song. (Sorry couldn't help that pun just sort of squawked out • darn did it again) Anyway, these are some very nice speakers, especially for the money. I have them paired with a DIY 10" sub. I decided at that price, even if they weren't what I expected, I could sell them and not lose money. Turns out they're keepers. Thanks Sean for your honest review.
So 5 years after this review I wanted some new rear surrounds. Fronts and center are Polk so I figured I would go with Polk again. I got the T15 which are part of the T50 class. I have heard the T50 but they are not as good as my A7s or A3's. Maybe it's me but I like the tweeter. Fact is it needs a break in period. I would say give it 3 months but ideally 6 months and to me that tweeter has smoothed out over those time periods. I digress. I asked myself how good can this T series be. I like the prices but what about sound? Before I put the T15's in place in the rear I compared them to the older Yamaha's that they are replacing. I ran the test in stereo using music. Not bad Yamaha and they have held up nicely after 25 years. However the T15 high end just really impressed. A short test because a few hours listening to jazz and jazz vocals. Wow I wish that I had a smaller room and these could be my fronts! If I was in a dorm room or apartment, these T15''s would be all that I would need assuming I am not doing bass heavy House or hip hop. That's where I think the T50's should take over. They too would be excellent is a smaller room. I have yet to purchase a bad speaker model from Polk and that's saying alot. I have had a few Sony, Klipsch and others that just didn't cut it.
You mentioned the Polk Audio RTi series at the end. What was the story behind the tweeter? Ive seen a few Polk Audio RTi speakers on sale here lately that has been very tempting to buy. I don't want to make a mistake and waste time and money.
ive had these and I own the Andrew jones pioneer , but what blows both of these out of the water for a cheaper price? Polk tsx220b. $180 for a pair they surprise me every day.
Hello, thank you for your review of the Polk T50 speakers. Please bear with my prelude to my dilemma. I'm not and Audiophile by any means, but I do love, appreciate, and want the best sounding equipment I can afford. By afford, I don't mean putting a $5,000.00 sound system on a credit card. I'm trying to put together the best sound system I can for $500.00. My current listening preference consists of 80% home theater and 20% music (all types). I began with a Onkyo TX545 receiver, Paradigm center channel, two Paradigm Titans (front), two Paradigm Atoms (rear channel) and a 100 Sony subwoofer (all used). The system sounded ok but not as good as I'd like. I have since bought two (used) Polk RT800 floor speakers (front), a (used) Polk cs300 center channel, and moved the Paradigm Titans to the rear. The Sony subwoofer just didn't cut it, so I actally purchased a (new) Polk sub on sale at Best Buy for $100.00. Much better lows/bass, however, the sound is lacking the high frequency sound of the cymbals in Van Halen's "Atomic Punk". I NEED that! So now, I went out and bought two (new) Polk T50`s on sale at Best Buy for $150.00. They are still in the box and I'm hoping they will give me the highs that I'm looking for? Before I unbox them, I'd like your opinion. Will these T50`s make those cymbals stand out or do you have another recommendation (within the same price range). BB also has some Klipsch R-51 bookshelf speakers on sale for $124.00. Also keep in mind that I don't have a clue about the receiver settings. I just plug the speakers in and listen. I don't know about Crossover, phase, dB, and the other adjustments that I think it has. Your advice would be much appreciated!
Hi I m from india my room size is 11×17, I m buying marantz nr1609 I m confused between taga 606 special edition or Polk t50susion Plz help which best speaker system for me
would these be good to use as reference speakers in a recording studio ? I have high end Adam monitors but would like a hi-fi speaker setup for checking my mix and master on for real world perspective
any update to these ? i made the mistake of trying to compromise between surround sound and quality music. this can be done ,,,maybe. ive gone to the music direction,, 2 channel,,, mostly. i have 4 edifire that broke in nicely and a pair of new yamaha big shelf speakers. Time for large scale imaging.
Hi Sean, you've done a GREAT job with your videos, I check out your comments almost every week. I'm completely sold by your recommendation of the Polk Audio T50, I'm thinking of coupling it with a turntable... what do you think? And most of all, for CD listening... what would your personal choice BE for amplifiers for the T50? Can't wait to hear from you.
Hello. I have a t30 center and t15 for rear channel. I currently have the t15 for the front channel but wondering if I should change it to the t50s. I have a paradigm sub pdr100 I think it is that I use with this setup and two Titan v3 that I use just for music and I switch to the polk for the surround with movies. Thank you
How well will they be when paired with pioneer vsx330 basic av receiver. I am currently using Boston acoustics a26 bookshelf so will these Polk t50's be upgrade? I am bit unhappy with placement of Boston's else good
hey, what about the T15 bookshelf speakers? Are they as good as the floorstanders? i wanted to get the T50 floorstanders but since im shipping abroad the floorstanders will cost way more to ship due to height and weight! So is the T15 good? wanted 2 pairs for a surround sound system. How do they compare to pioneer sp-bs22 bookshelves? Originally was planning to get the pioneer set but they are too bulky and cost way more to ship!!
I have a pair of these and they sound excellent. I am running them 2.o with no subwoofer. They really don't need one unless you are a real bass head. They have a very balanced and lively sound, throwing out a nice soundstage. A tad bright but I trimmed back the treble 2 notches and to me it's perfect now. Highly recommended especially at this price point.
Hello, are the T50's worth 80 dollars more than the dayton audio T652's? I watch mostly blu ray movies thru my HTPC id like best bang for my buck, thanks.
Cool. I had pretty much wrote these off after taking the T15's home and then promptly returning them. Also I would love to see some more affordable gear reviewed. Any idea how these would compare to the Onkyo SKF-4800 towers?
+ocularis73 - I honestly have more fun reviewing affordable gear than I do expensive hi-fi exotica. That said, I haven't spent any time with the Onkyo's, so I can't really tell you how they compare to the Polks. I gotta say, the Onkyo towers don't look half bad. :D
+ocularis73 - Yep. Don't get me wrong, the Monitor 70's do some things very well. They are more open sounding than the T50's. They are also punchier, more dynamic, and feature an aggressively tuned top-end that some people may prefer over the smoother (by comparison) T50. For me though, the accentuated top-end is a deal killer for me. I hate to say it, but the (new) Monitor, TSi, and RTi line can get rather brutal at times.
Wow, I didn't expect that. For the price and the number of drivers I thought the Monitor 70's would slay these little T50's. Now these are even more intriguing..
+ocularis73 - It all depends on what you're looking for! As an example: I fancy speakers that have great tone are are a whole bunch of fun to listen to. That's where the bulk of my personal bias resides. So within the scope of that bias, the T50's are the most tonally adept sub $500, multi-way towers that I've come across.
+Daniel P - The Monitor 60's are brighter, more dynamic, and fuller-range. If you have a big room and if you like it loud, the 60's are a safer bet. If however, you're in an average-sized listening room and listen at non-ear shattering volumes, the T50's are a touch smoother and offer up a more natural tonal balance. Since I'm a tone whore, I err to the side of the T50's. :D
+Zero Fidelity Hehehe thanks dude you're awesome. I appreciate your quick response. I currently have Owm5s as my 2 fronts and Cs10 as my center. I would hope t50s would be a significant upgrade over the OWM5s.
Hey Daniel, Since I'm not familiar with the owm5's, I can't really tell ya how the T50's compare. One thing I will say is that if you do buy the T50's, be sure to put them on top of something like a thick cutting board. They are light speakers and really benefit from having a solid foundation under them. It cleans up the sound quite a bit.
If you are in a small room and if you aren't a bass-head, then the T50's should be fine. If you're in a bigger space or if you flat out like deep, visceral bass, then yeah, a sub or two may be in order.
+Erik Generik - Go for the T30 center. It matches the T50's perfectly and will only set you back $130. www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-T30-Channel-Speaker/dp/B013LIN554 As far as surrounds go, if you're tight on space, then you could opt for a pair of T15's. Those speakers often sell for as cheap as $50/a pair when on sale. Otherwise, if you DO have the space, I'd just get a second pair of T50's for the surrounds.
+Zero Fidelity A truly great review.Your effort to teach people how to listen to music is rare.I predict you will be a fantastic mover and shaker in the audio/ht movement. Keep up the original thought process.TAS is going to be in trouble as your base/fan club matures. fxe02
+Francis endryck - You're way too kind man. At the end of the day, I'm just a jackass with a camera. I'm not sure if Zero Fidelity will ever become anything, but if I can manage to help a few people out on their journey, then that's all that really matters.
+Yippie - Aw man. I knew that question was going to pop up! So here's my take on that comparison: If you plan on connecting these speakers to an A/V receiver, then I think both of these speakers compete very evenly with one another. The Polks are a bit more expressive than the Pioneers, and I think they have the upper hand when it comes to seamless driver integration. However, the Pioneers have a softer upper midrange and despite using smaller drivers, their larger (ported) cabinet helps to give the bass a tad more "oomf". This allows the Pioneers to do a better job of filling a big space with sound. Now, if you plan on using these speakers in a typical hi-fi setup, this is where I think the Polks begin to distance themselves from the Pioneers. As EXCELLENT as the Pioneers are, I think the Polks beat them in tone, driver integration, and bass articulation. As soon as you get those Polks off the ground, they offer a level of performance that I was never able to achieve with those Pioneers. Now on the flip side, I'd take a pair of Pioneer bookshelf speakers (BS21's or 22's) over the Polk T15's any day of the week. But when it comes to a tower vs tower comparison? Yeah, it's the T50's for me. And by no small margin.
Yeah, I kind of figured you knew people were going to ask you about that one. That's why I was surprised you didn't bring it up in the video. :) But thanks for writing out your thoughts about this comparison. Hopefully others will read it too. I been an audiophile for long time now, but I still have fun playing at the lower end of the spectrum from time to time. We need these products out there to bring a new generation into our hobby and keep it strong. Thanks for your videos.
I hear quite a bit of good things about the Yamaha gear. It is affordable and should make these things sing. Also Denon or Onkyo. I would give the Yamaha a shot first though.
Hopefully someone can help me in using the old school Insignia ns-b211 pretty powerful bookshelf speakers for how old they are.. Would I hear a upgrade with these.? Thanks
Your review just kept a little whisper in my ear. I was at Frys Electronics and the stock levels were low. There were more employees than customers by a wide margin. I took a walk through their audio video area. I saw a pair of these T50's for under $70. I thought, you don't need another pair of speakers. Plus I have two designs in the pipeline I want to build. I remembered your review and thought you couldn't even purchase the cabinet materials with grill cloth for this price. I had to buy them. I'm not disappointed, even if I had paid original retail.
+The Opinionator - While both speakers are relatively similar in size, the Pioneers are the largest of the two. Even though the Polks stand one inch taller, the Pioneers are both wider and deeper than the Polks. All in all, the Pioneer towers have greater cabinet volume. Here's a spec breakdown: Polk T50's - Nearly 9" deep, Nearly 8" wide, and 36" in height. Pioneer FS52's - Nearly 11" deep, nearly 9" wide, and 35" in height.
I actually had someone tell me I was an idiot for buying these because, in their "audiophile" opinion, Polk was creating cheap units that looked like they should be better but they didn't even wire them for full sound. When I actually explain how sound, and air, actually work in these cabinets they were so confused and I just had to laugh. I love my T-50s. I have the entire T-Series line-up and they were my first 5.0 surround sound system. Having replaced my main HT speakers over the years I have always kept these towers and their bookshelf companions and use them in my office for stereo listening. They are so tough to beat for performance when you are trying to keep cost down to keep the wife happy. ;)
I've watched quite of few of your reviews and am wondering if you would recommend the Polk t50 and Polk s15 speakers together on an keiid amplified cd player?
The T50's are absolutely perfect for the budding audiophile. They are also adept with both music and movies, although I think they shine particularly well with music applications. There just isn't much to complain about when you consider the value for the buck. Just remember to put them on a solid foundation, like a decent cutting board!
+Zero Fidelity I noticed that they set on a thin square base, is that removable or fixed? You did mention a cutting board. Just some final thoughts before I make my decision.
The thin square base on the bottom of the speakers is fixed. Just the same, I feel they sound a lot better when you give them a solid foundation to sit on.
+Zero Fidelity I'm very impressed with these. I got an excellent deal on some Klipsch F-30's on sale for less than $350, but this is a truly incredible feat to produce such good quality speakers at a sub $300 MSRP that look to be quality and evidently sound very good. Thanks for the review!
I am currently using these as front speakers in a 5.1 setup and work perfectly. Rich and warm with just enough sparkle in the treble to fill my medium sized living room.
Awe man! You didn't address the matchup of who's best in show? These T59's or the A. Jones Pioneer FS52's? Same price, similar look, but, different insides. Yes? So. Who does your "Un-Biased" ears like best in the shootout?
I just got my set yesterday on sale at Best Buy and I’m loving them. I previously owned some really awesome Klipsch towers but had to leave them behind in Hawaii when I moved to Texas.
Next, I didn't cover the performance of the product as thoroughly as I normally do. I got caught up sharing my enthusiasm instead, so just in case my video wasn't clear enough, here is a very short snapshot of what the T50's bring to the table:
Presentation type: These speakers have a a laid-back presentation that errs towards the warm side of the tonal scale.
Treble: On an A/V receiver, the treble can get a touch 'hot' on some recordings. On a proper hi-fi system however, the treble is remarkably balanced.

Do you recommend the t50 for stereo listening and vinyl record music ? And why these speakers sounds better on a stereo receiver ?
+ALEJANDRO KITSCH sorry , HIFI system
Douglas Y.
+Douglas Youngblood - Thanks for sharing your feedback. I'm real happy that you like them!
I have the whole set of the t series and they sound great I watch a lot of movies and the don't distort and there great with music I hear sound from older song that I didn't hear on other speakers I have would recommend the t series to anyone who like big sound
Best Buy $89 each. What a great time to be into home audio. Price/Quality ratio is amazing!
Sean, amazing work!! As always. In the video you talked about a certain german brand without naming it.
I don´t know if you were referring to these I´m going to suggest you for some future video if you consider them worth:
-Numan Reference 801
-Teufel Ultima 40 mkIII
These are gorgeous speakers and in a price range that would appeal to the majority of us. But sound wise, it would be great to hear your opinion about them.
Just suggestions. You can´t answer to all of us :D
keep up the great work!
I vouch for this. Numan reference 801 and teufel ultima 40 mkIII look amazing, look like they have great build quality for the money.
$59 each at Fry's today
your right I have heard these speakers. they sound amazing in a small to medium room. I heard them at best buy and to surprise you they sounded wonderful and I was sold on them. nice and honest review
Thanks! Hope you enjoy them!
Just got some for $80 a piece, they do sound pretty damn good especially for that price
I heard other tests with the T50. Impressive bass sound. But I miss a little bit of medium sound. I think that this can be adjusted on the receiver.
i discover polk audio when i first purchase a PC in 1997. it came with it. i the speaker was so small and when i listen to music it was so well balance. the vocal was so nice. i used to buy only pioneer and sony brand. now polk audio is added to my list. pioneer is good for super loud and crystal clear. polk for some reason has slightly better higher end for instrumental. i listen to instrumental a lot.
Frys had them for $59 each today. Couldn't pass them up at that price. $118 for the pair, free shipping and no sales tax! I'm stoked.
the t50's with the t30 center and t15's for back speakers sound fucking great in a small room
(then you should have two of them, each next to one of T50's.)
4. Excluding low fq, the sound is balanced, but sounds like you are using your old computer's motherboard as your DAC.
Same here.... :(
Wow.. wow.. Thank you for the review.. i got them only on the basis of your review and i am so shocked at how good they are.. music.. im listening to some instrumental via spotify premium and the speakers are just singing.. so good!
I'm so happy for you! Cheers and enjoy the sweet tunes!
+Zero Fidelity Thanks for the tip. Really appreciate your instant reply.. Cheers!
Thanks.
T50. Made in China. $5 tweeters, $10 woofers. $10 crossover. Polk USED to use Peerless, and a Vifa ring tweeter in the LS series.
Scott Lowell And yet they still sound good
A lot of cheap audio components sound Great. That pisses off some audiophiles!
I know this is an old video... But if you can answer... How do thess compare to the R40 towers from Polk Audio. They have 2 5-1/4 drivers.. No passive radiators.. and the same, or very similar tweeter. Is the R40 a better or equal speaker to the T50
How does the T50 compare with the Pioneer SP-FS52´s?
Good review - I would not have considered this speaker but since I saw your review I will consider them
I may have made this comment before, if I have I apologize in advance.
I bought a pair of these from Frys Electronics before the COVID-19 pandemic, for a song. (Sorry couldn't help that pun just sort of squawked out • darn did it again)
Anyway, these are some very nice speakers, especially for the money.
Wow
I wish that I had a smaller room and these could be my fronts!
I felt that when you said this is the gateway drug. it really was for me.
You mentioned the Polk Audio RTi series at the end. What was the story behind the tweeter? Ive seen a few Polk Audio RTi speakers on sale here lately that has been very tempting to buy. I don't want to make a mistake and waste time and money.
I would call these Bookshelf speakers but with 2 passive radiators and built in stand.
ive had these and I own the Andrew jones pioneer , but what blows both of these out of the water for a cheaper price? Polk tsx220b. $180 for a pair they surprise me every day.
Yeah, the TSX220b's are nice. They are more forward, dynamic, and 'in your face' than the T50's and the AJ Pioneers.
I remember meting Matthew Polk! So. Are the T50's suitable as front channel speakers in a home theater set up? Thank you in advance. James
Hi
I m from india my room size is 11×17, I m buying marantz nr1609
I m confused between taga 606 special edition or Polk t50susion
Plz help which best speaker system for me
So which did you bought? I want to buy the same receiver but I’m not sure which speakers to buy
Love it! How do these compare to some of the latest 2-way speakers you have reviewed?
Just bought them. They will never replace my mirages. But they sound good
A 30 yr update of the Monitor 5 jr ..
For less money than those cost in the 80s.
Glad Polk returned to it's roots
would these be good to use as reference speakers in a recording studio ? I have high end Adam monitors but would like a hi-fi speaker setup for checking my mix and master on for real world perspective
For $150 for a pair (on sale) how would you rate these against something like a Fluance SX6 bookshelf for a simple low budget TV 2.1 system?
if you had the choice between these and the S15 bookshelf from polk which woudl you say sounds better?
Well done, Sean...
Very good sound Polk Audio t50
Hello Zero F. I have a Harman Kardon 1710, 7 channels, 100w per channel. Is this receiver ok for the polk speakers? Thanks!
any update to these ? i made the mistake of trying to compromise between surround sound and quality music.
this can be done ,,,maybe. ive gone to the music direction,, 2 channel,,, mostly. i have 4 edifire that broke in nicely and a pair of new yamaha big shelf speakers. Time for large scale imaging.
How come floor speakers no longer have huge drivers and are all so thin and tall?
If you could had to choose between Polk audio t50 or elac uni-fi ub5, which would you choose as your only speakers?
Thank you for all your videos! How would these speakers sound paired with the Iotavx?
Thank you for this great review! I was wondering, which german company releasing awesome speaker are you referring to at 4:10? Cheers
+fI00w - Buwahaha I'm going to keep that reference under wraps. At least for a lil' while. :D
ELAC may be the German co. he was referring to?
Just hinting...
The Mykal may be onto something... :D

Are the rest of the polks speakers the same? Like the rest of the woofers are just joker's? Rti a9s
What is the medium and small size room, everyone say this, man tell us numbers...
Thank you
Which is better these Polk or the old JBL e 80??
I just got a bundle of 2 tower speaker 1 center speaker and 2 book shelf speakers under $260.... they bang all over my living room
I have this whole T series system and yes they do sound great! The center channel is huge.
I second this review/conclusion.
Well I was going to get them for a new avr receiver? So you wouldn’t recommend them for that?
+Fred Flintstone - Absolutely man. Go for it!
+Zero Fidelity If I had to choose between these or the Monitor 70 series II for $159 each, would you still recommend the T50?
Amazon has these for $89 ea with Prime... Sounds like a steal to me.
What about the other speakers of the T series like the center and surround speakers? Are they any good too? Should I buy them?
They are pretty neat.
Good work brother. Sony Core review!! They’ll mess with your head :)
trying to decide between these and the Polk monitor 60s. what's your opinion and thank you? great video
Hey Daniel,
Since I'm not familiar with the owm5's, I can't really tell ya how the T50's compare. One thing I will say is that if you do buy the T50's, be sure to put them on top of something like a thick cutting board. They are light speakers and really benefit from having a solid foundation under them. It cleans up the sound quite a bit.
+Zero Fidelity OK great thanks again. I appreciate the quick response.
How do you think these would sound with the PS Audio Sprout 100?
Can i just connect two of these directly to my tv?
Why did I find this four years late? These must be great value
Polk Audio T15 8 ohm - Polk Audio T30 and T50 6 ohm , I don't understand why they did it , they sell them as a team.
You deserve tons more subscribers
Hello this espeakers are good to music??
Will these polk audio t50 work with my carver pm-1.5 amplifiers
I am thinking about getting these i am still running infinity reference 2000.6 will these be a big improvement
Hello; Do you think these work fine just to use in stereo amplifier, without subwoofer? thanks.
If you are in a small room and if you aren't a bass-head, then the T50's should be fine. If you're in a bigger space or if you flat out like deep, visceral bass, then yeah, a sub or two may be in order.
polk t50 or andrew jones pioneer? primarily for home theater purposes
I'd go with the T50's.
Thanks for the reply, also looking at the elac f5 towers
The Elac F5 towers are no joke. They are double the cost of the T50's, but I can honestly say they are worth it if you have the extra cash to spend.
Whent with the pioneers, they are spectacular for the price
thanks for the review. what would you recommend for a center, and surrounds to compliment these?
+Erik Generik - Go for the T30 center. It matches the T50's perfectly and will only set you back $130. www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-T30-Channel-Speaker/dp/B013LIN554
As far as surrounds go, if you're tight on space, then you could opt for a pair of T15's.
I want to buy these speakers, but i love bass, if i turn up the bass will it shake my house? What amplifier should i use to have more bass?
Add a sub if you want more bass.
You can get 2 new Polk Audio 40 Series II speakers in black for $99.99 on EBay from Polk. Great deal.
There not bad, i have a set. They love the hk3770 receiver
Any thoughts on how these might compare to the Pioneer SP-FS52 Andrew Jones speakers? That would be a fun comparison.
+Yippie - Aw man. I knew that question was going to pop up! So here's my take on that comparison:
If you plan on connecting these speakers to an A/V receiver, then I think both of these speakers compete very evenly with one another.
+Yippie - You're 100% spot on. Thanks for watching!
Can I use these with like a Klipsch center speaker? I would love Klipsch L/R speakers but they are to big for the area i have to work with.
Yes. They sound excellent with the r34 klipsch center
Polk doesn't build shit, they have always built quality stuff. I'm really looking forward to my set coming in the mail.
What brand and model of receiver/amplifier do you recommend for these speakers?
www.crutchfield.com
I hear quite a bit of good things about the Yamaha gear. It is affordable and should make these things sing. Also Denon or Onkyo. I would give the Yamaha a shot first though.
Polk T50 or Pioneer fs52 is best?
Thanks my friend
You said these are smaller than the Pioneer FS52 but iv'e seen a side by side shot of these and the Pioneers are smaller 0_o
+The Opinionator - While both speakers are relatively similar in size, the Pioneers are the largest of the two. Even though the Polks stand one inch taller, the Pioneers are both wider and deeper than the Polks. All in all, the Pioneer towers have greater cabinet volume.
Here's a spec breakdown:
Polk T50's - Nearly 9" deep, Nearly 8" wide, and 36" in height.
Pioneer FS52's - Nearly 11" deep, nearly 9" wide, and 35" in height.
Zero Fidelity ok thx,i subbed today, good content, probably some side by side comparisons or shootouts would make for good videos
Thanks for the review for these speakers. Deciding to buy these speaks.
+Felix dela cruz - Awesome! I hope you like em'. Remember to put them on top of something solid, like a thick cutting board, or marble, etc..
I know Im kinda off topic but does anybody know a good site to watch newly released tv shows online?
@Axl Yosef Meh try flixportal. You can find it through google:P -devin
@Devin Ace Thanks, I went there and it seems to work :) Appreciate it!!
@Axl Yosef No problem xD
Would you recommend these for a beginner audiophile? Also do you think these sound better on music or movies or both?
Agreed. Thanks for watching!
How do you compare this to Bose 301?
what speaker you sujest me over 400 , i have yamaha rx v383 amplifire
Should i buy these for starter 5.1 setup? I got whaferdale diamond 220 bookshelf speakers as left and right.
For me? Polk T50's. All day. I like the Pioneer towers, but I think the BS22's are the star of that particular lineup.
6ohm onkyo av 170 watt ,they thump like my subwoofer, the center channel t30 thumps too
lmao x'D
Now I know...I was trying to figure out the middle and bottom. Got mone for $99.00 @ Amazon. Thanks!
These or the Polk RTI A5?
would i get better sound out of these t50s or tsi200 bookshelf speakers?
Tate Ward I have that same question. Are you primarily using them for music or movie?
179.00 T series 5 speaker pack I bought 2 sets the same day
