      @@ErinsAudioCorner even though I’ve already bought my 7.2.2 setup (Klipsch RP line) it is so beneficial to learn about speaker science, what to look for when buying, and what’s deemed acceptable in the market. I started buying speakers 2 years ago without knowing what REW was and barely knowing anything about audiology. Having learned after the fact that Klipsch is the least forth coming with info left a sour taste in my mouth but the market allows it!

    I just picked up a pair of XT70s for $249 each and the XT35 for $240. This is a summer home the family uses. I'm pretty blown away using my Marantz 1607 in a 3.1 setup. However I've ordered a Onkyo NR7100 (Amazon renewed for $929) to replace the Marantz to use Dirac Live to handle the setup. I'm not an audiophile and get lost in the setup so anxiously waiting for the receiver in a few days but for someone like me that's 95% movies there's are a phenominal deal. For a total of $1807 (inc taxes) I have a setup that smashes my Bose 700 soundbar with Bose 700 base module (at my regular home in the city with no room for a system. Overall amazing. I have an old PSW350 polk sub that I've connect to help with that low level issue on the XT70. Sounds great to my ears in the living room.

    Good info here and appreciate the time to test these. I have the XT20 and really like them for their size and cost. I'm thinking about the XT35 as well, down the road... just to stay in the same series for better tone and I only have two side-by-side seats in my room. I'd love to see a test of the XT90 heights speakers.

    I have an XT30 & 2 pairs of XT15's. I am no expert & I don't have any testing equipment. These are budget speakers so I knew they wouldn't be the best. But after a week of adjustment, I have these speakers sounding great for my needs. I wasn't happy with the YPAO automatic adjustments my receiver made. I tuned them manually. I'm big on bright, well defined treble. That was why I went with the new Monitor XT line. I have a small room so maybe that's why I'm not having issues with the tweeters. Overall, I've been very happy with these speakers. But I should mention that I recently realized that I have been using the same center speaker since 2001. So it didn't take much to upgrade my outdated speakers. Excellent review. Thanks for the information. It should help me continue my fine tuning to enhance the sound even more.

So I’ve added the XT15 bookshelves for the front channels and the XT90 height speakers. My rear channel speakers and Sub are still Onkyo til I replace those. But my surround system sounds awesome to my ears in my living room. No complaints here. All this tech data is great but these speakers Definitely sound better than what this video is saying, imo

      There could be quite a difference between Klippel and what most people use for measuring loudspeakers, even pure anechoic. Buchardt 400 is a good example - 'huge' rise in upper mids, right before the tweeter takes over, in On Axis data, yet Klippel predicted in room is 'almost' ruler flat with a little dip around and above crossover freq. I'm very intrigued by Klippel how it 'measures', taking a lot of variables into account which regular systems don't, unless one takes a lot of data and plugs into very capable software. I'm very intrigued how the Purifi/Bliesma in waveguide system turned out - from what I read the designer doesn't have access Klippel and he designed his spkrs based on the semi anechoic data he measured.

    • @Pitbull0669
      @Pitbull0669 2 года назад

      @@pliedtka I'm all for how ALL media sound to ANYONES ears no doubt. Every one hearing is deff diff and the Klippel or REW for that matter Audacity ect doesn't do your natural ear justice. WAY to many variables to even gauge. In a chamber or in a reviewers home they don't hear wheat we do . which is why i stopped doing measurements in the1st place. nice to see data, but when you have that and then a person that buys said product doesn't hear the same thing people start to get pissed or feel cheated. Weather they are right or wrong, that doesn't matter any more . Its the companies fault or the reviewers for giving an opinion. lol my 2 cents

    I have a set of XT15 and I actually like them a lot. They are definitely a bit “V- shaped” in the frequency response. I actually think they compare to my old Paradigm atom v2 bookshelf speakers. I think, however, due to having a 0.75 inch metallic dome tweeter, the Paradigm tweeter sounds thinner and a bit more boosted at very certain frequencies, and the bass on the Paradigm is a bit boosted at 80-ish Hz, not as flat as the Polk.
    That Polk XT30 center channel didn’t really look awesome on the frequency graph. Wouldn’t that super big dip in the high midrange interfere with dialogue?
    That decides it. I might spend a bit more for an XT35. I will probably just use my old T15s for rears (about all they are good for, plus they’re quite efficient so it’ll be pretty immersive.) and my XT15s for fronts. I have an old Klipsch subwoofer that I modified with a Dayton Audio dcs305 driver. It sounds incredible, which it didn’t with the original driver. I will probably use it for the sub.
    My other home theater setup involves Paradigm Titan v2 in the front (these have WAY too much bass, so I send all bass to the sub,) the atom v2 I mentioned before in the rear, the Paradigm CC70 v2 in the center, (this sounds a bit boxy and thin), and my Paradigm PDR-10 for the subwoofer. Not as loud as the modified Klipsch/Dayton one, but hits just as low.

    I grabbed the XT20 for $229 at Best Buy over the past weekend. Been watching a ton of content with it over this week within the current atmos setup. Loving them. I cannot stress to you how much better quality these are than a friends higher end polks he had purchased in 2018, but I swear these sound light years better and I don't understand how. The only thing I know is that for my setup, these are phenomenal, even compared to the older Yamaha speakers I was using.
    My only thought now is I want to upgrade this mismatched Pioneer center channel I grabbed from bestbuy years back; I was considering the XT35, but I'm still hesitant on that yet. I really need to hear them first, but Best Buy locally doesn't have it on display.

    • @itsJoshW
      @itsJoshW 2 года назад

      As far as listening to your thoughts on the XT 30 and 35, I understand they may not entirely be for more. Not because it's narrowly focused, but because they are much more higher range than I'd end up liking. Although I'd need to try for myself. Personally my Pioneer "SP-C22" works fine for the center channel in this setup, but I want something far better in quality. The only benefit is that it isn't a horrible speaker for dialog, it just lacks mid and low frequency response in the realm that I'd prefer. Within that regard, I set the crossover around 110hz, where the sub really helps bring depth, but it still doesn't "feel" perfectly pronounced.
      My next venture is finding a center channel to replace this one.

    are there other options around that same price point?

Would these guys benefit from the oldschool method of foam rings around the tweeters you think? I was also thinking you could do QUITE well if you put that Klippel system on hire, for us subscribers, shit... even maybe brands who would care to get their gear measured... for a reasonable fee of course!

Ask for a stereo receiver, I'm currently using a Kenwood KA-34 that my dad bought in the '80s but it's still alive and kicking. Would it work fine with the x10-15s or similar speakers Plus a powered subwoofer or what I need to get a new receiver? I appreciate any help. Wrt cabinet resonance, have you tried (while critical listening) using just one or two wood clamps to clamp down on the sides of the cabinet and spaced about a foot apart for a tower speaker (at 30cm and 60cm from the bottom up for two clamps)? It's a quick way of applying a bracing effect instead of emptying the cab and gluing in dowels.
    Just a thought...

      Forgot to add, with all the talk on the Behringer B215XL and B212XL over the years in the AVS forum, maybe they can be added for testing at some stage? I've wanted to buy a pair but they are sold out everywhere in Australia...

      Honestly, I’m not sure. I don’t have any experience with the Monitor 60. I can only assume the XT 70 is better simply because it’s a newer design and it does objectively well. But I can’t give you anything more than a gut feeling, unfortunately.

    First Erin, sorry for replying to this old review video but it's related to this, and i need your help, and sorry for making this long.
    Also hello from Portugal!
    Amazon prime days 11/12 July are coming and i was looking the cheap 5.0 plus a SUB setup, i will be coming from a desktop Logitech z906 xD.
    I saw some videos of yours including this one and since i have limited budget i can't go overboard with this.
    My options seem to be Jamo S 809 HCS 5.0 under 500€ or a mix of 2xXT60/70 with XT30C(can't 35C cause of size) and 2xXT15/20(side/rear surround) under 650€, maybe less.
    What do you think? And is there a better alternative?
    As for SUB I'm probably going for Jamo C912 or Klipsch R-120SW as your recommendation on your other video since Infinity SUB R12 can't be found in stock.
    As AVR it's going to be Denon x2800h or x3800h depending on the price.
    Also, i want a bit of future proof, meaning i want to keep these for a very long time, future 4x Atmos build with maybe XT90 or other Atmos speakers, would say 5-to10years and my room is small but I'm hoping that one day I'm going to be moving to a larger house. I also watch movies Solo, as a i paid particular attention to what you said in the video.
    Thank you in advance for any reply and any insight would be appreciated, your channel caught my curiosity and those graphs of yours are very interesting.

      Hi, also from Portugal! I'd say also look into the used market (some stores also have good products in b-stock/ demo), either to get what you're looking for at a cheaper price or get something better for a similar price. Look into trusted platforms/ sellers. According to what erin said in the video this series seems to be good for home theater use as it's easy equable, so it seems like a good option for what you're looking for. Try to find a source that has room correction or some sort of automatic eq to make use of that feature these speakers have.

      This comes fro the frontal HRTF response (large dip at 8kHz) .... and it is the reason why 2 channel stereo sounds unnatural because the center image has the 30deg (typical speaker setup) HRTF imprint on the response!

    Polk's lower end speakers have always had a tipped up treble, to call attention to themselves in a showroom, and also because a lot of newcomers to audio like that sound, equating it to increased detail. There are actually many consumers and reviewers in the audio community that also like that kind of sound, which is evidenced by the glowing sales numbers and reviews of B&W and Klipsch speakers

    • @kevintomb

      I think it is a VERY tough choice. Try to appeal to SOME audiophiles that want flat and neutral response, or appeal to OTHER audiophiles, that like some high end boost at times, or appeal to the great masses that either do not care or sorta like the high end boost.

Too be honest with you living on fixed income if I’m gonna invest in speakers they better be worth buying. Not knock other brands but I’m just saying if a person is like me on fixed income you can afford it might as well go with the Klipsch.

    • @ErinsAudioCorner
      @ErinsAudioCorner  2 года назад +1

      Meh. How long is "long enough" for break-in? This is the slippery slope of audiophilism.... don't like a speaker at first? Let it "break in". (aka: Let your ears get used to the stark differences you hear and likely don't enjoy). My $0.02.

    Someone made a comment on the Audio Science Review forum saying these Best Buy speakers like the SS CS5s are generally more bright as they are tuned to be off axis. Andrew Jones actually made his second generation of Elacs more bright because the customers didn't like toeing in the speakers. He described it as they didin't like the aesthetic. This was heard in the Andrew Jones Joe N Tell interview.
    Also if you look at most speaker setups, yes most doesn't mean its right. People generally don't toe in their speakers regardless of the budget.

    To sum it all up every every cheap tower speaker under $600 is going have resonance issue just no good bracing even tho they get low and hit hard just horrible resonance reccomend getting dule subs and crossing them over at 100hz to 120hz with dule subs you can easily go to 120hz with out bass localization issues with your dule subs a single sub that will be pretty tricky to do it will also take off some load of your avr giving you more power and cleaner sound that being said never heard these speakers just going off of what he said with resonance issues I'd personally would cross them all over at 120hz and go with dule subs for majority of movies will be just fine

But let's not try to cover up what the cheaper-regardless-of-the-consequences mind set is doing. What if Best Buy went out of business (it's been on a rocky road)? This is why ID companies usually have good and often times cheap returns (or free) You can audition them yourself in your own room and send back what you don't like. Or, you can find similar enthusiasts where you live (forums are full of em) that may let you audition if they have what you're interested in. Nothing wrong with Amazon. They're just a company doing good business. All other companies have the opportunity to do the same.
