She was...In the late 80s, her first two albums had a lot of hits, and it was exciting to hear her on radio, at the bars, and in concert. When her new tracks came out, we'd rush to get the 12" vinyl remixes.... I think of her as one of the greatest voices, ever. In class with Chaka Khan, Stephanie Mills, Anita Baker, Cheryl Lynn.
I am so glad this performance was captured. I'm an original fan, and how well I remember the tour, from her first album. I saw her several times, during the period of her first 4 albums. There were very, very few female sings who were able to get to my heart, after the 1980s started. The 60s and 70s gave us so many top drawer voices, that by the time the 80s got here, few voices could enter that level. We got Jennifer Holliday. Anita Baker. Miki Howard. And, Meli'sa Morgan. When I heard Meli'sa's first album, I was hooked for life. Her recordings are still 5 feet away from my stereo equipment. I love this video. She still is creating new things to do, within this familiar song. That's what I love the most about her- she is willing, and interested enough, to explore while she is singing. She brings the daredevil style of the greatest jazz singers, into whatever she is doing. I'm so lucky to see this. I feel like she should be doing this in a beautiful theater, as one of the world's highest-paid entertainers. I hope she is still enjoying her gigs, and that she is happy. She has brought me happiness for nearly forty years.

Why wasn't she bigger on the charts? Her voice is huge and she had the goods. I remember her. FM radio loved, loved, loved this song back in the day.
