- One of the most shocking executions of King Henry VIII's reign was when the King's former best friend Thomas Cromwell made his way to Tower Hill. Cromwell was the former Chief Advisor of the King and he would then fall from grace with the failed fourth marriage of the King. Cromwell was a brute who arranged the execution of Anne Boleyn and her downfall, however the King would sentence Cromwell to death for treason.
Thomas Cromwell would then be taken to Tower Hill for his execution and it did not go well as it took more than one swing of the axe to take his head from his shoulders.

It's always a bad idea to get close to the boss.
With friends like this...
With friends like Henry VIII, one didn’t need enemies! He did the same thing with St. Thomas Moore, his trusted Lord Chancellor (never mind 2 of his wives! It’s no wonder Christina of Denmark turned down his marriage proposal!)!
I'm currently reading Diarmaid MacCulloch's biography of Thomas Cromwell. It's a cracking read. Highly recommended.
What's cracking read?
I'm an English major.
I've never heard of a cracking.
Sounds like slang......
I've heard things called a pip
BUT NEVER CRACKING.
it was more like a tyrant vs a
Good man.😊
Crackin me up.😂
@@supertrucker99 An Australian turn of phrase. Meaning that it's good, Better than average.
Sorry, but your pic looks very much like a racist symbol.FYI
Henry turned on everyone who got in his way
He even turned on those who didn't get in his way
Such a tyrant is unfit to be a ruler of any people.
I don’t think Henry ever considered Cromwell a ‘friend’. He was his able statesmen who got things done for him, particularly nasty things or complex things Henry didn’t have the skill or patience for. As soon as Cromwell failed him, he had no reservation in destroying him. Probably one of the few people Henry called a friend and meant it was Charles Brandon, later Duke of Suffolk. Brandon crossed Henry by marrying his sister in secret but Henry eventually forgave him. That might be one of the only people Henry actually forgave and let live, so the relationship must have been real.
Henry 8th is my 16th great uncle and is the worse man to wear the crown of England upto 72,000 souls died during his reign.
I no it's cold in that tower
Is there any truth in the story that Henry VIII actually ordered that Cromwell be executed by a complete novice , knowing that he would probably suffer an agonizing death?
Yes it's true he was EXECUTED WITHOUT TRIAL FIR HE went against HENRY over some articles of rules....
Cromwell was a believer
And king HENRY THE VIII
was using it as leverage ....
TRULY
he was not Christian.
I have never come across any evidence actually supporting that. It's probably just one of the many later tales that try so hard to paint Henry as absolute bloodthirsty monster. Which is a bit weird because the man so obviously had faults enough as it is, so no need for much embellishments 😅
He did call in a pro for Anne B.
Most Gracious prince i cry for mercy mercy mercy
I despise him as much as I despise Henry VIII.
I despise him, too...as well as Henry.
He was the reason Anne Boleyn and other men were killed... even though they were innocent.
He's the reason many people died then. I have no sympathy for a man like that. And I think of it as karma
Hilary Mantel..humanised him in her first two books..
She did humanize him They are great makes you feel like you're in Cromwells mind.
