I make my own ginger extract and there is a real difference in the benefits. When traveling, I use asian ginger candy or chews. You can also buy powdered "ginger drink" that is nothing more than aged ginger root and honey. You can put a packet in a cup of hot water on a flight. It is fantastic as a hot drink when sick.
Vernor’s. The real ginger ale. Thanks mom.
Ginger ale, tonic water, Virgin Mary , water . My flying stuff
Next time I fly, I will surly order it if I fly with a civilized airline who still has some sense of service.
only time I drink ginger ale is when I'm flying. So damn refreshing
In our Chicago family flat Coke for nausea, ginger ale backed up by 7UP for stomach acid or vomiting lol . Love this vlog Maxi! Soooo close to 100k subs!
I shake some powdered ginger root into my Gingerale
Good idea!
Now I know why I always preferred Schweppes Ginger Ale to Canada Dry, thanks Maximus!
Thanks for the heads up! Does Schweppes make a sugar free variety?
They do indeed, but the full fat variety does taste better 😉
The ride is always more enjoyable if you drink wine 😂
lots of brand name ginger ale nowadays sometimes don't even contain ginger.
Six and a half hours from Bangkok to Narita with a huge guy like you showed at the end in the window seat. I'm in the middle with half of him on top of me. No empty seats on the plane. He was a doctor BTW. He noted I was white as a sheet and asked me if I was OK. Run off the plane with diarrhea to the squat toilet in the airport. Run to the next flight that was boarding. Takeoff and Whim whams hit again and the stewardess wouldn't allow me to the toilet. I told them it was going to be long 12 hours if my pants was full. Half way to LA It hit again and I vomited all the way to LA laying on the floor. I needed some ginger ale but there wasn't a stew in sight all the way. Thank you United
What did you drink? If you had light or zero drinks then you have to blame the drinks not the food. Sweeteners causes what you just described. Never drink light or zero drinks. Flying or on the ground. Instant diarrhea and stomach ache.
That sounds horrible! I'm sorry you had to go through that. I flew a lot for years and always worried about a scenario like that.
Why would you put a carbonated drink inside you in flight?
Grandma used to home brew ginger beer ever Christmas when I was a kid.
I only drink ginger ale (or sometimes tomato juice) when flying. i guess I just intuitively felt that "comfort" a long time ago when I started flying on business back in the early 80s. Mixing ginger ale with scotch is great on longer flights, too!
I can't recall Coke tasting different on a plane, but it definitely tastes better at a McDonald's than anywhere else.
"Double scotch and ginger ale" everytime I fly overseas , since my first trip across the ocean; recommended by the Scottish woman next to me. Turned adopted tradition for me ever since. Glad to hear it is beneficial high in the air, the only time my stomach will have it, and many a double per flight when in good company!!
😀 We have great ginger ale here in Michigan, the most famous is Vernor's Ginger Ale. And there's a deli in Ann Arbor MI that makes the stuff in a variety of strengths ranging from a little tongue-tickler to one that will destroy your palate and make you weep.
There's a Grand Rapids expat now living in Santa Cruz who's practically addicted to Vernor's, but they don't ship out West. Poor guy.😱
Thanks for the heads up!
The only time I ever have a "Bloody Mary" is on a plane. It's absolutely the best cocktail at a cabin pressure of 8000ft. And raw ginger has saved me several times when I went overboard in Thailand with spicey food. It settles the stomach almost immediately.
James Vernor is credited with the introduction of Ginger Ale in the United States in 1866 in Detroit, long before Canada Dry. Vernor’s is still sold today and is my favorite. I’ll have to order it on my next flight. Normally I have the dreaded Diet Coke.
Gen-X’r here and not just Coca Cola and ginger ale, but also coke syrup as well as ginger extract and/or candy.
One of my little pleasures in life is a nice Martell or Remi Martin cognac with a ginger ale. Lovely 👌
Hesten Blumenthal developed a menu to overcome the taste and smell issues encountered when flying. I believe it was successful
Serve on ice, with a slice of lemon. Add a brandy - and some Angostura bitters, if you're at the front. And there you have it: a Horse's Neck.
I always bring along a small bag of persevered ginger when ever I travel. Whether through air, sea or land. It's refreshing and it helps with motion sickness
Fun fact : PEPPERMINT can also soothe upset stomachs
Max, you are obviously not from Chicago! My great grandparents are from Palermo - Mangano. It is not Coke for an upset stomach, it’s Pepsi. Because it has pepsin in it, like the chewing gum. We also used Brioschi and not Alka-Seltzer! as for Gingerale, to this Day, it is Vernors ginger soda for me! Although I do always drink, and always have, while in flight, had Gingerale
brioshki too (probably misspelled that lol)
Ive Always just had ginger ale on planes
Bundaburg brewed ginger beer. Actually made with ginger, visibly cloudy as a result. A lot of the stuff sold in plastic bottles and called Ginger Ale is just carbonated sugar water with artificial ginger flavour and brown food colouring. For example, [common NZ brand] "Dry Ginger Ale" ingredients are: Carbonated Water, Sugar, Food Acid (330), Flavour, Colours (150d, 110), Preservative (202). Zero ginger.
I don't always drink ginger ale. But when I do, I prefer Canada Dry.😄
Thx Maximus, betting on English Grand National I spotted the horse "I am Maximus" so put a bet on cos of you and boom, winner winner chicken dinner 🎉.
Congratulations, "I am Maximus " has just won the English Grand National horse race!
Sorry. Sorry... hold up there, Max! Ginger Ale or no. We need to address the FOD in the room 1:02 🤣
Hey Max I'm 67 in June and all I can remember as a child the only soft drink at my grand parents house was Schweppes dry ginger it's my fav today had coke and still come back to dry ginger and it's so good as a mixer with Jacks 😊😊😊😊
Dont know if you get Schweppes it's big name here tide to Cadbury they hold the license to Pepsi here in Aus you will find it on Qantas flights give it a try with a touch of your fav scotch 😊😊😊
Cheers Kym
Adelaide
Bottled water for me Max. Aussie Bob😢
Business class champagne ❤
Italian? My man! 🤌
Seagrams Extra Dry is the only commercially available ginger ale to not taste like chemicals.
I was going to say in the beginning of the video - there is no longer ginger in gingerale - or much of it. Not sure, but I think it used to contain more. Mom's in the 1950's always kept a bottle of Coca Cola syrup in the cabinet - a panacea for any kid with an upset tummy. I know mine did.
I only drink Maximus Dry. Sometimes wet.
I’ve never had ginger ale on the ground… only on a plane.
Slow aviation news day, eh Maximus?
Now this would have been much more interesting if you did a piece on which whiskey is better at 8,000 ft cabin altitude. JD or Jameson.
been years since i fly. and when i do. never need ginger ale. maybe each person is different.
P. S. Bundaberg (Queensland Australia) in made from real Ginger. You can get in California through you coke a cola distributor. It would better than fake gingerale. It comes in a distinctive glass stubby bootle
Actually, diet coke or Pepsi slows down the beverage service because it fizzes so much that pouring it into a cup takes longer as they have to wait for the bubbles to subside
You're taste buds aren't affected on Max aircraft. They don't tend to be pressurised these days.
Two Whisky One Ginger no ice.........please. My standard drink prescription whilst flying. One every 5 hrs I even carry my own steel tumbler ro cut down on the plastic ! Been drinking Whisky and Ginger for 40 years and never been in a plane crash....coincidence 😂 I don't think so....
Anything with caffeine also will mean more passengers will be using the bathroom...
“I’m in the book”
Wait, you can have these without booze?
I will stick to cranberry juice.
I hope you realize that most of the Canada Dry has less than 2% of Ginger Extract. I suspect that most of it is Ginger Flavor and no real ginger there. Oh well -- it comes up later in the video
“In truth, Seagram's Ginger Ale and Canada Dry Ginger Ale are not made from real ginger and instead are made from carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, preservatives, and a chemical flavor compound that is manufactured to mimic the taste of ginger, but in actuality provides none of the health benefits ...”
Ginger Ales Tier List Best To Worst:
- Seagrams
- Canada Dry
- Schwepps
Seagrams is the only one still using pure cane sugar so it's leaps and bounds above the rest. The rest are just sad.
Vernor’s is the best
Canada dry is too sweet for my taste. Schweppes or Fever Tree is better. Schweppes at one point used to make two varieties, standard and the sweeter less gingery American Ginger Ale.
What is that distracting background noise I hear?
I only buy real gingerales
9:22 - BS - they know that and they just give you the can.
HAHAH everything is a crime in California except actual crimes
Rubbish! Two beers and a bloody Mary followed by sleep.
john wayne airport used to have the best bloody mary and at a decent price many moons ago to prop up the courage to get on a commercial plane. loved to hit two of those and grab a few brews on the plane before sacking out for the ride.
@@SuperDave_BR549 😁
I never suspected you were enduring the failed state of California.
Been on over 1500 flights. Stick with booze.
You put the lime in the coconut
I find a glass of cold tomato juice to be most refreshing on a flight - it's the only time I drink tomato juice.
Light and Zero drinks causes explosive diarrhea because of the sweeteners so avoid all times! Otherwise you end up wanting to go to the toilet while being in the customs cue with 3 other 747s and no way to go to toilet. 🫣💩
