I upgraded to the Vive Pro 2 from my original Vive, ordering it during the release event. It is an excellent update, comfortable fit and amazing resolution. I detached the ear pieces (the box had plastic covers to protect the contacts thankfully), not because they were bad, but because I use a full ear wireless headset with 7.1 surround and boom mic. I had the controllers / base stations from my old Vive and they work very well.
Coming from an original Vive was a huge step up in quality and res. 120 Hz (Varies depending on resolution) / 120 degrees of FOV. You will need a powerful graphics card to run this 5K beast. With a 3090 it is phenomenal.

Fun thing is that Mike literally dropped this video a minute before the "VIVEgone for Bruhsiness" started where these were presented officially for the first time...
    2:51 HP Reverb "114" FOV :D
3:56 600 extra bucks for the old Wands (who _wands_ these anymore?) and the base stations, ooofff!
5:58 Finally someone does this. Had the idea a while ago already to have quadrophonic audio in the headstrap for better spatial sourround sound.
6:25 That display will be sick especially for flight simming. And finally we'll have a better FOV without using the Index with just 1600px vertical res or the Pimaxes. But the hardware requirements to run that will sick be as well :D
6:49 That is some awesome feature IMHO.
7:05 I imagine the thing having a regular battery at the front as well, otherwise the hot swapping wouldn't work. And having just the rear one only wouldn't cut it either.
7:37 That's great, so it's clearly not entirely business only. I hope they'll somehow make this thing a consumer headset as well, I mean, basically it would just need to have a store for games on it and wireless link. A stripped down "light" version would be nice as well, but I'd also like to have the _option_ to go for the full thing.
Also, when I got that right, the thing isn't locked behind a subscription model and you don't have to own a company to be able to buy the Focus 3 which is a good thing already. Yeah, it's expensive, but I'm sure there are people who would buy it if it could be fully used for gaming.

Either way is cool to see HTC Vive back in the game positively and showing how far enthusiast consumer VR hardware has come.

Yeah, ill wait for something that is an actual upgrade and doesn't cost double the price just for a resolution increase. What I want are better lenses, a lighter headset, a mic that isn't garbage, audio that compares to index, and eye/face tracking integrated into the headset. If it wasn't for the HP omnicept inside-out tracking that would be the best headset for me but they need lighthouse tracking for me to buy. Still waiting for headsets like this and I'm not giving a cent more until it comes.

I just wish that something like the Vive Focus 3 got some kind of commercial version. It looks so awesome and would be so awesome for standalone gameplay. I would definitely pay $600 for a stripped down Vive Focus 3 made specifically for gaming. Absolutely I would.
I also wish I had the money for the Vive Pro 2. I’m only using a Quest 2 right now and that is so awesome for standalone, but I’m not happy with the performance on PC using Quest Link. The slight delay and the compression bothers me a lot, so I want a high end no compromises PC VR headset. The Vive Pro 2 looks awesome for that (but I’d definitely be getting the Knuckles controllers over the Vive wands, and that is even more money). I’m gonna wait until I get a career going and my own living situation sorted out after college (I have one more year of that) until I start purchasing high end stuff like this, but by then I’m sure there will be an Index 2 or something else along those lines. if the tracking is up to snuff a striped down version of the focus 3 would be great, also with 120hz with a dedicated pc wireless dongle............with those I would happily pay the same as the vive pro 2 ($800 usd) if it could deliver (800 usd for focus 3 gamer edition, with controllers, 120hz, and usb wireless pc transmitter). some built in headphones would also be nice too. I think there is a gamer edition of the focus 3 full package at $800 with wireless pc dongle would appeal to many enthusiast

Hi, I am considering the vive pro 2 as my first VR set. Which other bits do I need to play Half Life 2 Lynx? i.e controller / base unit? Can you post the item links please. Is vive pro 2 wireless out of the box like the quest 2? Is quest 2 better?

I’d probably swap the controllers out with the valve knuckles controllers for the ultimate experience

Really like the look of the Focus3 and the swap-able battery is a great idea.
I made a cartridge for an extra battery on my Quest which I can swap over when it gets low so I don't have to stop playing to recharge.
I like the higher resolution but I didn't hear anything about having direct video throughput with a cable like the new Pico neo has and without that it's not really going to provide images at that resolution.
I'll be sticking with my OLED ogQuest it seems.
Might look at the Pico Neo when it comes west?

Thanks for the info, this is everything of note from Vivecon so no one has to waste their time watching it, they can just be disappointed faster. HTC has abandoned consumer VR at this point and that just saddens me.

I really just want a quality PCVR headset with 4k OLED and good FOV. It doesn't exist right now. Someone could make a lot of cash with such a rig. The immersive quality of OLED is magical, and it's just missing from all the current gen headsets. I'd drop $1000 on it today if it existed.

OLED is flawed and the worst display technology for VR. Literally no one wants to use garbage dirt cheap displays that have massive pixel persistence and latency for a platform that requires low latency and very fast pixel response.

I always ask myself: is the enterprise market this huge and demanding of HTC Headsets, that HTC can live just from that? I can't see a benefit of upgrading my Index to an Vive Pro 2 (just the resolution - but that's not worth the cost)... Eyetracking would have been a killer feature together with the Face-Controller though...

Are the controllers and base stations that there launching in august exactly the same as the old ones?

    • @yeshuasmc7436
      @yeshuasmc7436 3 года назад

Yes. Just buy the Base Station 2.0 and a pair of index controllers. Please do not buy their package. The vive wands are horrible, and honestly... No VR controller beats the index, which makes this the best VR news in a while. The option to do wireless pc VR with higher than index fidelity.

@@darrenpatton7250 That's a tough one. It might be a hard sell, but hardware is coming hard to find... so maybe not.
