TL;DR the watch hobby is now 90% hype beasts. Buy what you love. I've fallen for these traps several times before landing on a collection with which I'm (mostly) content.
To be fair, it's totally okay to like the hyped watches, as long as you like them for the right reasons. Buying something simply because it's popular or because some celebrity was spotted wearing one is not the right to approach this. Every time someone buys a hyped watch as an investment some poor guy/girl who actually REALLY loves that piece loses the opportunity to get it at the right price, and that's a shame.

This is why most of my collection are made up mostly of vintages as they meet most of my requirements. And here we are. My brain says "ohh look, a Daytona!" The macros show up all the gorgeous details, and they're understandably quite a cavalcade of eye candy. You could so easily fall for a watch like this. Those diamonds on the dial and the way they catch the light are dazzling. It's all there. All your favourite attributes, picked out in warm gold. Lovely. But then you consider Daytona watches you've seen before. The beat up patina of a rare one from the year of its birth. The simplicity of its design. The heft of this little lap-timing tool. Those 3 little white dials shining out from the black dial. The bezel. That audacious little red "Daytona" almost imperceptible at first, once you've gotten to grips with "Rolex Oyster Cosmograph." Just that. There's your magic. Oh, and you can't have it. Due to the fact that by accident of birth, you weren't around in Florida to buy one, when everyone wanted an Omega Speedmaster, bcz it went to the moon. Nobody cared that Paul Newman rocked one, while McQueen sported a Heuer Monaco. Can you actually believe nobody loved this watch? So the watch in this video is a parody. A Baga Chips to Rupaul. Honestly the only reason I’ve ever gone into a retail store is see them in person try them on pick the one I want and walk out and buy it online I’ve done it for golf clubs, clothes, shoes etc. for a heavy discount you have time to take it to a watchmaker to make sure it’s a legit in time to file a return before payment is released

Nice video, Mr Hands, thank you.
*Uhhhh why are there so many dislikes? This video is straight fax no printer.*
from the ones that think of themselves as above average and no "average at best"

As long as you use a reputable money back guarantee and/or Authenticity guarantee payment method buying online is truly the best of both worlds now. you are going to get taken for a ride buying secondary market retail. If it’s a AD then obviously buying retail is a no brainer. It just doesn’t make sense to pay somebody for the overhead anymore especially not with overnight shipping.
Your story telling ability is just amazing !
I've just brought two job lots of broken Swatches, safe to say I'm not overreaching.
what has the TT Daytona (black) has anything to do with it??
Ah the gold Rolex, the official watch of: "I'M PROUD TO BE A DRUG DEALER!!"
nice pic of how those who don´t know think, thanks for that
Hell with the prices of stainless steel you might as well spend a few extra grand and get a oysterflex or other white rose or yellow gold variant
No , is not richtig
The one is cheaper than the steel white dial ceramic bezel? Should be avoided?
I could listen to you talking for hours. But I would get an overdose of dopamine.
So true! I've made these mistakes with watches and cars that ended up costing me a lot of money in the long run.
This video is exactly why I love your channel :)
Great video and excellent choice of watch to represent the message.
Idk what I just watched, but I'm awed. 🤯
I didn't know the Daytona was 3 individual watches...
The BGM is so awesome...! But ,What is it?
Phase 1: Review warches
Phase 2: Debate the philosophy of watch making and purchasing
Phase 3: Transcend materiality regarding watches (current)
Phase 4: Transcend time itself...
looking forward to that chapter
I always learn something in these videos... Even stuff that's not about watches.
Can I ask you look into the adverts which pop up. 3 times during this video, the first just 1 minute in, I get a drinks ad, with loud music - 4 times louder than the actual video, and I have to pull my headphones out. Its really offputting.
Otherwise keep up the good work. I was expecting yiu to reveal the Daytona was fake at the end, but I guess this is the usual Rolex finishing these days.
well done and well explained
So to sum up this video: avoid Rolex and be reasonable.
Well I've owned a Vincero Rogue Matt Gun/red watch for a year now and despite all the criticism about the brand I aps love it and so far no problems plus I think it looks great , it's not fallen apart or scratched yet so I'm more them happy , despite what the 'trendy ' You Tube watch sites say..
7:02 about half a second off being completely sublime.
about a second off being an Archie klone.
That was a fantastic video and thank you. Keep up the good work and I will work towards the watch that I want and not the watch that I buy under impulse. Glad the star of the video was a Daytona too, almost like a subliminal message just for me.
If a website advertises brand new Tudor or Omega watches for less than $100, don't buy
The clasp on the Rolex has two nicks on it about 9:49 in the video.
Exceptional content! Definitely above average!
Let me just get this straight. You don't mean don't buy this extraordinary Daytona Chronograph you keep filming, do you?
So are you saying don't buy a Daytona? But I love my Daytona.
I just realised that I hadn't subbed and I was shocked and disappointed in myself. To ease the guilt trip I immediately have subscribed. You thoroughly deserve it!
So which 3 watches were you referring to in the title?
the entire video passed by and I kept thinking when is he going to start talking about watches and then, the video ended. I am still waiting.
I did buy a deal that was too good to be true on Watchfinder earlier this year lol. Still love it.
This is a beautiful watch indeed. Elaborate moving camera setup too, the camera follows second hand moving around the watch
This channel is so much better than Ted talks :)
So I should not buy 6503 Daytona?
We need a Watchfinder watch collection video
