  • Did you know Gregory Peck and Ingrid Bergman starred in Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece, Spellbound, while both being married.
Peck to Greta Kukkonen and Bergman to Petter Lindstrom.
During filming, they developed a deep romantic love, and their affair became a major Hollywood gossip
Their affair remained a secret for 42 years until 1987, when Gregory Peck, then 71 years old, revealed their love in an interview, a few years after Ingrid Bergman's death.

The actor John Lithgow in his autobiography, spoke about about the love affairs leading actors have had and why it frequently occurs. He said you’re placed into a situation where you’re trying to produce an on screen romance with one of the most beautiful people on the planet. You’re expected to display your love in a convincing fashion. You can very easily evoke true feelings of love, joy and lust. So to walk away from that romantic leading star(let) as if the whole emotional experience didn’t happen requires a huge amount of effort. It’s not like turning off an electric light. I don’t know how they do it.

In the 40s, their career might be ended. But beyond that, you have to think that how such behavior can be cruel to their spouses. Especially Peck's first wife gave a birth to their first son in 1944. The filming took place in 1945.

I think it's just gossip. I think Gregory Peck came across as such a decent man because he was a decent man, not the type to have affairs while he was married or engaged. Ingrid Bergman, on the other hand, was known even then as having had affairs or, at the very least, having fallen in love with her leading men even though she was married.

My thoughts also. It is always disappointing to find out later that people once admired behaved immorally. Particularly true for these two. While we expect this type of behavior from the common rabble we sometimes imagine larger-than-life people to be above such actions. Keanu Reeves is one contemporary example that appears to, and does, live a moral life.

Although this couple was famous,+in the public eye-I believe that Secrets of any kind, and what goes on within a Family (including each member),should remain Private.🫤This disclosure us in very poor taste in a human level. It isn't Out Business at all. Media has discarded basic etiquette + crossed that line of common decency by divulging all sorts of private, even outrageous information, just to receive the Fame for it. Apparently being a scum bag blabbermouth is the New Normal. Honestly "Clicks- Likes- # of Subscribers" doesn't impress me in the least. But being respectful to another living being Is most important in my opinion. I'll bet no-one asked for permission prior to sharing this info with the World. Although Ingrid has passed on, it doesn't mean it's Open- Season on her Family Life. Her privacy should still be Honored. Take care!🌺

They were engaged but not yet married. As he said, they were young. They chose to live their love under solemn secrecy, and to each hold to their prior commitments so as to not hurt anyone. Perhaps neither of them regretted it; and what they could have regretted later in life, at the hour of their death, was not having lived that love. They saw it as a carpe diem moment.
Of course, one thing happens when you betray your couple. You break the sacred bond of love with the one you're with. You have lost respect for that person in a fundamental way and always look at them with other eyes. If you tell them, you will lose them, even if they forgive you; but if you don't, you carry that knowledge within you always, and on a very deep level, that separates you from that person and from that love. Same happens if they betray you. If you want a pure, happy, genuine and lifelong love, never betray one another, regardless of the circumstances. It becomes like a pebble in your shoe for the rest of your life, even long after you've separated. Because who you bwtray in the end us only yourself. You may get used to it, but it is always there in your conscience. And in the end, the only one who has to live in your conscience is you.
They were both good people. But they had to carry that secret inside the rest of their lives. And even if you get used to it, if youre honest with yourself, that is an extra weight.
I wonder if part of the agreement was that they could reveal their affair after the first one died, or if she would have preferred her family and the world never know. Hope he addressed that point in the interview, and that it was not just a trophy confession.
They still cannot be judged by the outside world for their decision. It was their choice, and happened for a reason we will never know, nor is ours to know.

It is always disappointing to find out later that people once admired behaved immorally. Particularly true for these two. While we expect this type of behavior from the common rabble we sometimes imagine larger-than-life people to be above such actions. Keanu Reeves is one contemporary example that appears to, and does, live a moral life.

I happened to read his stories related to the first wife and family. He was a cheater. He kept emphasizing the family value, but he was very cruel to his first wife and family. The media still created fancy images around him. I guess it is no wonder that he recorded his bible audio with the second son from his first marriage in 1989-- after he broke this news in 1987. His second son was born right after this affair in 1946. His first son is indeed committed a suicide in 1975. I felt some Karma. It is not a beautiful story.

And these things were not even unknown when they happened! I was quite young and not that interested in Hollywood scandal, and it was pretty common knowledge. My wife made the same observation: She seldom went to the movies, but it was hard to walk past a news stand with out seeing the scandal magazine headlines screaming these things. Maybe we should shut up about Anthony and Cleopatra, Henry VIII and all his wives...they're gone, too! You are awfully incensed for somebody who doesn't read well about two of a countless number of Hollywood serial adulterers among thousands of beautiful people doing the same thing in a very sinful community!
