This is a dope break down of a very nice Analog chain. I love how the music production community is taking it back by incorporating analog with digital for hybrid music setups
E-A-ski got these niggas back on they analog game. 🤣 That front end gotta be right. Cali niggas dont play about they sound, from Dr Dre, to Rick Rock beats, to dj quick to battle cat and dj mustard. None of that thin software shit. Shit gotta slap and slump in the trunks. Run that shit through that api, ssl, or neve, gotta have your money up for that sound. Bolo, I was having a severe panic attack (from outta nowhere) when I stumbled across this video, trying to find something to calm down to. Thank you for this very informative video. Not only for the gems dropped throughout, but for helping me through what I thought was a heart attack (I have an appointment tomorrow). This video made me want to pull my Roland MV 8000 back out.
Yes. Dave Smith founded Dave Smith Instruments which eventually became Sequential (after Yamaha gave him the Sequential name back). He also designed some excellent synths such as the Prophet series. I was very sad last year when I found out he passed away. I'm very thankful for his contributions and also a proud owner of two of the synths he designed, the 16-voice Prophet REV2 and Prophet 10 Rev 4. There's nothing like true analog oscillators running through true analog filters and envelope generators then through a voltage control amplifier. R.I.P., Dave. BTW, That beat was HARD!!!! 🔥 🔥 🔥 all the way!!!!!!
As the dude showing all the gear said multiple times in the first 20 minutes..."you don't need all this"! He also mentioned how he was looking for a particular sound & not exactly what everyone else is using. I agree with both statements. I wish we could have heard the Prophet run through a cheaper, more affordable 10K setup first to compare with the later setup we heard here. I would've asked him "let's say you only have 10K to buy outboard gear, what are you buying and why?".
The farrofish is able to AD/DA on all 16 channels, tell him not to print on the way in!!! print in post, thats what the pristine converters are for, send out to hardware, use hardware as a insert (like you would a pluign) and print...
I do both but I’m using my burl as my AD. I like the ferrofish for ad/da but it’s not as good as my ufx 3 ( my interface ), definitely not my burl. My Burl is doing the capturing. All 16 come out of my ferrofish and goes to the orbit.
One more thing, I love some of the Vintage converters better than the new ones because the new ones are too clean. It's like all of the soul has been washed out of them. Vintage apogee converters are still good today. It's like when you listen to a mid-2000 Jeezy record, some of his albums sound better than albums cut now. The Ying Yang twins, production by Lil Jon, those records hit harder than records that are coming out. Sometimes old is gold.
I love hybrid systems myself but it's funny that you brought up Jeezy. Leslie Braithwaite mixed all of that old Jeezy shit and he absolutely hates analog gear lol. He's strictly in the box.

One thing about high end gear like this is that, yes, its very expensive - BUT stuff like this basically either holds its value, or increases over time. especially things like vintage dynamics and pres. On the other hand, you spend a fortune on plugins.. youre not gonna see that money again. Of course you also get infinity or whatever the item is, and while its sick to have, if youre not recording a symphonic orchestra with super high end mics, expertly placed and in a purpose built recording room - Id recommend a 500 series chassis and a few go-tos youll be just fine. if youre doing largely sampled / synth music you dont even need that. I work in the box w/ the softube console 1 and fader / UAD apollo. Songwriting and chops beats gear 100% of the time
Dope equipment but i would treat my room before, his room sounds full of reverb/echo, that hardware chain can not be used properly without removing those reverbs and bad frequencies

You can purchase and experiment with speakers, you don't like whatever you bought sell them. The sky's the limit when you go passive.

Awesome Chain, I know how it feels to run sounds through Analog. Alternate Method: Having a laptop/keyboard/drum machine and running it OUT through distortion and/or overdrive pedals for 808s and other sounds (or just bypass them) and run these IN through a Desktop interface SSL 2 with 4K activated. What you get is texture that allows you to hit harder but also the 4k changes the frequencies just enough to where the track becomes a little more wider. But the real sauce is how we control the dynamics. Find a reference track, use 3 fast compressor from Focusrite on three different multiband. (Low High Mids, and if you can get Stems references that will be amazing) Look at how much dynamic are in each low, mid and high. Adjust yours to the same dynamics and watch the SONICS of your speakers/headphones shift. You still have to mix your track, and you will find that your hi hats might be too hot, turn them down. Bolo you should look into the history of Sequential, it is super interesting! It started in the 70's closed in the 80's, bought by Yamaha and revived, then Dave Smith got it back.
Man, this was REALLY DOPE!! Tons of info & sauce shared.. I'm saving this one for reference! Thanks Bolo!! I’ve been wanting to add on more outboard gear. I have an Avalon 737 and a JoeMeek Vq6 and I want to add one more of each to make some stereo channels. A good summing bus would be good too
i’ve been doing audio for over 20 years; I’m old school and I can attest to what he is saying.. analog hardware is way better than the software. There are lot of aspects to audio that in the box producers don’t understand and can’t grasp until they have been around this type of stuff.
Yes the analog gear is sweet, but very expensive, the cables get expensive. A while back I decided to go the analog route, I used it for about six months. And now I’m back to just my interface and FL studio. Why because of small little problems, hisses here and there . Now I will admit I didn’t buy the most expensive high-end gear for my analog set up but really when it comes down to it I’m happy with the digital sound it’s very clean and I like clean. There is times that the smoother warm analog sound is awesome but at the same time so it’s digital, that’s why you go into any major studio they have digital everywhere.

Rev2 = Pretty, OB-6 = Mean, Prophet 6 = A mix of Rev2 and OB-6, Prophet X/12 = cold and ominous.....S/O to RME.
👀 what up keyflo
As far as monitors, take a look at the Barefoots. They are 3 way, and great for mixing and producing.
I admire this man’s enthusiasm 🔊🎵🔥🔥🎶🎹🎤🎧🎛️🎚️🎥🖥️
I'm thinking though, should be through in the title.
Great channel.
Yes bolo this was a great video, thanks for sharing some great knowledge, keep up the great work bro.
Guess who about to dust off Reason lol
Mannnn- Thas pretty cool right there! Thas REALLY CLOSE to my Set Up except! I’m running Apollo rigs- BUT I’m thinking about adding that new symphony- that Junt is Rockin… but I’m keeping my UA! I’ll aggregate the system. Thas what I’m doing with my Big Six.. going into my B2.. but I end up in my Portico 2 like Bossman over there ~ Thaswasup
He got the right idea 👍🏼
Thanks for the video Bolo, really enjoyed it. I like how the brother breakdown things and his reasoning.
You can tell he really loves music and enjoys talking about it
A studio session with him will be dope.
FIRE!!!!!! DOPE!!!! Really looking at upgrading to the RME UFX 3, get the Ferrofish Pulse and start from there....
Bolo you should look into the history of Sequential, it is super interesting! It started in the 70's closed in the 80's, bought by Yamaha and revived, then Dave Smith got it back.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 BOLO!!! That’s a dope setup
Love from the 🇬🇧
The studios that every rapper wants
Rapper ain't gonna do shit with that
The amphions are dope
See Almighty E-A-Ski said it Sonics is important to sound 💯❤️🙏🏿 all this adds character to your sound make you sound like you
Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick have an ATG hip hop classic just beatboxing and rapping into handheld mics. Gear is great but creativity is King.
Man, this was REALLY DOPE!! Tons of info & sauce shared.. I'm saving this one for reference! Thanks Bolo!! I got 1 request.. can you team up with your partner (I don't know who the guy is in this video) & make a Fl Studio Template for busses & recording? It would definitely be epic!! 💯🙏🏾✊🏾 look forward to your response Bro
A preamp def makes a big difference that 610 is dope!
I looooooooooved this
For monitors I was gonna'say Focal, but, you said it already. I have the Evo 2s, they are crisp, but you'd probably need top shelf Focal.
Bolo once again! Thank you
Sounding phenomenal 🔥🔥🔥
This was inspiring. Thanks for taking the time to put his out here.
Gotta leave the integrity in there!
Another banger !
That telefunken is killer super cool
Yes the analog gear is sweet, but very expensive, the cables get expensive. A while back I decided to go the analog route, I used it for about six months. And now I’m back to just my interface and FL studio. Why because of small little problems, hisses here and there . Now I will admit I didn’t buy the most expensive high-end gear for my analog set up but really when it comes down to it I’m happy with the digital sound it’s very clean and I like clean. There is times that the smoother warm analog sound is awesome but at the same time so it’s digital, that’s why you go into any major studio they have digital everywhere.
TELL HIM He needs to get Some Tannoy System 1200 Studio Monitors to go in his Studio
