    Hey! Thank you for watching this Introduction to Ambient Music. This is a really unique genre and I hope you learned a thing or two. Some of the big ambient musicians are Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, Tangerine Dream, The Orb, Steve Roach, Biosphere, and many more. Be sure to check out albums like Ambient 1: Music For Airports, Selected Ambient Works 85-92, Substrata, and many more.

    i personally really adore ambient black metal. it takes the droning guitar and bass and screeching vocals of black metal and pairs them with ambient nature sounds but it also can really stand out with the instrumentals having a much more cheery vibe despite still very obviously being black metal. it's often referred to as atmospheric black metal too, and even though it's obviously not _just_ ambient music, it gives off similar vibes (to me anyway, not sure if it would for people who aren't already into black metal).

    Gymnopédie No. 1 oddly sounds so familiar. The sound is almost like C418 Sweden. It has such a nostalgic and emotional touch. I can't even recognize if I've heard Gymnopédie No. 1 before, but it's like I know every note.

    Curious that Eno did not mention that he was involved with the precursor to this in a couple of his projects with Robert Fripp starting in 1972 - "No Pussyfooting", and then 2 years later "Evening Star", both of which fit into this category of being both ignorable and interesting. In addition to Eno's keyboards and synths, it included Fripp playing through a modified Revox tape recorder, a device that was labeled Frippertronics. Since then, Fripp has used a similar approach with more modern electronics for a wide variety of soundscapes, very different from his playing in King Crimson.

    Hiroshi Yoshimura is my favorite ambient artist with feeling. I used to love Brian Eno’s music, but now I find it to be a little detached, especially the pieces that are composed by computers. Steve Roach’s Quiet Music box set is warm and pleasant to the ears. Saul Stokes is mostly not really ambient, but he does create some lush walls of sound in many musical pieces.

    I'm so so so so happy that you did this. This is something I got into late last year, and it so cinematic, I was hoping you'd love it too. If you haven't listened to Sigur Ros, I would really give them a listen. Ooh and John Hopkins, though he has more of an electronic flair. I think something great I once read about ambient music is that because there's no interface so as to try to suggest how you should feel (in the way that literature or lyrical music does) ambient music COMMANDS you how to feel. I'm honestly so so happy you did this.

    • @hannah-pw6qs
      @hannah-pw6qs 5 лет назад

      oh also I think it would be really cool to look at how this genre is making money. Not necessarily the top-tier artists who have definied the genre, but the people who are putting up rain sounds playlists on spotify and getting hundreds of thousands of plays. It would take some number crunching, but I'd love to see how that's working.

    • @irisl7674

      Interesting insights and I 100% agree with them! Ambient is such a special atmospheric/cinematic genre. Very cool to see someone have the exact same feelings on the same genre and put it into words so well. And I second Jon Hopkins, he is a pleasure to see live as well. One of my favourite performances of all time, so you should definitely check him out if you have the chance.

    • @hannah-pw6qs
      @hannah-pw6qs 5 лет назад

      I think Pitchfork or some other one did a live show of his and it was honestly compelling. To be honest, I think I hear Burial, Wookie & Lain, BOC, etc. in Hopkins than Eno or Sigur Ros, but regardless, an incredible artist.
