awesome job! you're the only person who's uploaded decent videos of the s8qm, so i thank you for that! would love to see more, as i'm considering getting one :)
These pick-ups aren't that bad, I don't think. They sound way better than previous stock Ibanez pick-ups. I'll be swapping them out for Bareknuckle Aftermaths when I get the money to do so. But if the fitting of pick-ups is an issue, I'll be getting in touch with them to work out the proper spacings so that they'll fit in. If you're looking into D-Activators, I'd do the same with DiMarzio. Either e-mail or phone them up.
Widthways, I measured 11cm. The pickups are only fractionally less deep than my Aftermaths in my 7-string, and in terms of shape, they're roughly the same, so you shouldn't have any issues. If you've still got some concerns you're better off getting in touch in Dimarzio themselves and ask them, before you buy the pickups.
Did you end up changing the pups in this? I've been thinking about getting one for a while, but I've been put off a bit when taking into account what the pups look like.
do you know whether or not the pickups can be changed? a forum said the pickups in the s8qm are a unique size, such that the guitar would need to be 'modded' in order to install other 8 string pickups. would you be able to give be some dimensions of the s8qm's pickups? i'm yet to buy one and i'm just curious to see if the dimarzio d activator 8's would fit in it. would it be too much trouble to ask you to measure the width of pickup from screwhole to screwhole?thanks, i hope that made sense haha
thanks for replying man. pretty much every 8 string pickup is too small for this guitar :( i might have to find a way to fit the pickups, even though they're smaller. what are your thoughts on the stock pickups?
hey Michael I see that your one of the very few dying specesof youtubers that reply to subsrcibers so i must ask you this do you have the tab for this song? also can i have your email adress to talk to you casually about the guitar and also song for begginers on 8 strings if its too much to ask I would just really appreciate the tab for this song its so beautiful like some of absent distances work loved the review aswell onthe s8qm-trb the review led me to buying one :) thanks Michael good luck with the job aswell
Michael Baddeley dont worry there is a tab on u.g anyway i recently got my s8qm-trb and i love it i am considering dimarzio ionizers and d activators what do you reccomend
blackjackmcgack Depends on what kind of sound you're looking for. I'm looking to put some Bare Knuckle Aftermaths in mine, for "djent" tones. D-activators are decent, Can't say much about Ionisers, or even signature pick-ups in general, as I tend to stray away from signature stuff. Seymour Duncan's new range is good from what I've heard, but not sure if they'd fit. Just have a browse on RUclips to see what suits your needs.
i was thinking a seymour duncan nazgul (for the bridge obiously) and an ionizer in the neck but have you noticed if you switch the s8 pickups to the neck there is a lovley tone

It's quite stable.
Not yet, purely as I've not had the funds to do so yet. But with me getting a new job, that should be sorted by next year, hopefully.
