I swear for years I’ve had this issue where if I don’t pick the note, and try legato, it doesn’t work the way I see it work from other players, like the volume isn’t there. Like the first note I pick sounds fine, and then I hammer on to the next note and try to fret it hard enough it just drops off on volume and sustain. I have this issue when I try finger tapping as well
Work on hitting the note harder with your finger, and just practice more until the motion is smoother, once legato feels natural and easy it'll sound better. Also, try using a bit more gain to start out sometimes.
Why not use your 4 fingers instead of tapping?
Not sure I’d call the first four notes of E Minor played up and down a lick… certainly not one to steal 😂
