- Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure opens on June 13th, 2019, and we were able to get an early preview of the newest addition to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure's The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. And we loved it -- it is the best Harry Potter ride to date.

Hagrid's Magical Creatures successfully does what most rollercoasters are unable to do -- presents a thrilling experience within a themed fully-immersive story experience. Most coasters hang on pure thrill and adrenaline and don't even attempt theme, and some that do are literally just painted on. Hagrid's brings you into the Forbidden Forest of the JK Rowlings books, a vast 7-acre landscape featuring 1,200 newly planted trees. To give you an idea, that's a massive size that's bigger than Hogsmeade and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey combined.
The ride might feel like a response to any criticism Universal Studios has gotten over the last decade. There are no screens, there is no motion simulator, there are no 3D glasses -- this is a high adrenaline coaster with unexpected twists and turns. If I had to compare this attraction to other rides, I would say it is 75% like Everest in Disney's Animal Kingdom and 25% a dark ride with creatures, and characters from the Harry Potter films and books brought to life with practical effects and impressive animatronic figures. During the ride, you will encounter Fluffy the three-headed dog, Cornish pixies, Devil's Snare, a Centaur, a Blast-Ended Skrewt (a creature that was never featured in any of the Harry Potter films) and maybe some other surprises.
The theming in the ride queue is on par with anything else in the Wizarding Worlds; the only negative is since the particular location is not featured in the films or books. Since it is invented for the attraction, it can't lean on the usual exciting props and locations we recognize. Instead, the queue focuses on the idea of the magical beasts, and I think that will be good enough for most. But the photo ops here are less than the other two big Potter attractions -- the ride here takes center stage.
This coaster reaches speeds up to 50 miles an hour, but it really isn't about the max speed -- it accelerates from 0 to 10 in a way that makes it feel faster than the numbers may indicate. And the story moments act almost as an almost break from the intense action, replacing the g-force with the awe and amazement of experiencing the magical creatures we know and love from the Potterverse. And this rollercoaster does some things that I have never experienced on a coaster before. I would talk about them here, but I feel this is one of those times when it might be better to discover and experience it for yourself.

This is hands down the most immersive theme park ever. I visited back in Dec 2018 and it was amazing.

I rode it today on its Grand Opening and it's incredible! Loved the smoothness, great animatronics, and just overall thrill. One of the best rides at both Islands and Universal.

One thing I enjoy about finding your channel a little late is that I can go back and binge watch some of your older vids! This is such an amazing ride! Not sure if you guys got to ride it at night but it feels like the ride goes even faster in the dark!! The detailing in the cue (que?) is honestly mind blowing at Universal and especially in H.P. land. They do a phenomenal job keeping you visually entertained even in long lines like Hagrid’s. Love reliving these rides in your videos.

Awesome! I think he just said hello when walking from the car to the stage. He didn’t say much. I also cut out a video message from the actor who plays Hagrid because it didn’t show up well from the screen.

Of all the Hagrid vids I have seen this is by far the best. You took the time to stop and show us the queue, most people just kind of show it as they run past. Slowed you down, but made for a much better vid. Also, no offense but as a relatively new channel, how did you score such a great view, in the box, for the ceremonies?! Best vid yet, mate. 😎

For the animated short showing how you board the ride, they should have used a different color than red. Red is not a good color to depict something to be “correct”

I am amazed you can ride Forbidden Journey with motion sickness. I've heard from the staff that they have to clean up because people have gotten sick on it.
I will not ride that again. For me that is a barf bag ride. But yes I agree Hagrids is absolutely amazing.
To be fair she’s only been on it this one time and hasn’t gone on it since but didn’t puke.
I see excitement here for the new motorbike ride. Cool. At another place they say the people are not showing excitement because of the summer heat. But both are taking place in the summer.

How much time did you wait in line? I went like 4 times in 2 days. Worst wait was 45mins. But you don’t get bored. It’s just a long walk instead of standing.

Does the lap bar lock where you are at, or does it have to hit a specific locking point like the mummy? I just barely make it on the mummy, so wondering if I'll make it on this.

It’s sooooo fun! My new favorite!
I am curious regarding the potential for motion sickness. When Everest goes backwards I get a little motion sickness. Does it compare to that regarding motion sickness, or is it better or worse?. I feel that I HAVE to ride this when I go in December but am concerned about getting sick.
Kitra gets motion sick when moving backwards and still was able to enjoy the ride without motion sickness medicine but it did make her a little sick.

I tried to ride it Saturday, but the safety bar wouldn't pull down enough. So Im gonna work hard to lose some weight then go back and enjoy the rides I couldn't
I had the same thing happen to me on forbidden journey years ago and it became the catalyst for me to lose 60 pounds and finally ride the ride. I have since gained a lot of the weight back but I wish you good luck on your journey! - Peter

How would you say this ride is for the Big and Tall/Plus size rider?
I am 270-275, 5’9’ and fit in the motorbike seat. Kitra had to push down on the bar once I was in the seat but I made it. The same thing happens for me on Forbidden Journey so I’m guessing if you can make it on that you can make it on this ride

Another channel had a man with 48 inch waist (he did not say weight), and tall. He fit in the motorcycle seat with minor problem and no discomfort

Yeah
Spoiler: after rolling passed the 3 headed dog and up the ramp, the coaster will go backward which will take you to a complete different location, this will confuse your senses.

Hello! Is this a strong and fast roller coaster? I want to know that because I like roller coasters but not so fast and strong haha, as in scale of 1-10?
Kitra doesn’t love intense roller coasters but can do Everest at Animal Kingdom and Incredicoaster at DCA. I think it’s more intense than both of those but not like the stuff you’d find at a six flags. It’s enjoyable. I’d say it’s a 7 out of 10.

I have never ridden in the everest in Animal Kingdom, and I want to ride in this Hagrid in October when I go but I am afraid that it is very strong for what I am used to haha and that I do not enjoy it!

I like the ride better personally but it’s for the most part a location you don’t see in the movies so it’s not the same because there aren’t memorable props or locations. The theming is on par with the other stuff in Wizarding World and the animatronic creatures and Hagrid are very cool.
How long did you wait to ride this ride?
We were at a press event and still waited a little longer than an hour.

Universal has no photography or video signs everywhere. You basically have to put everything not in your pockets in a locker before riding. But I’m sure someone will eventually sneak a GoPro on. But this isn’t the sort of ride that you could even capture on video. The acceleration has to be experienced in person.

Well it is a roller coaster. But does the person even hate themed coasters like Everest and Matterhorn? This is more themed than those. But if they hate all coasters, I don’t think this would change their mind.
I think it loooks ok because there doesn’t look like there is much of a drop. I hate roller coasters but I will be going on that ride so I don’t think it will be too bad
depends on whether your dislike of rollercoaster arise from aversion to acceleration or disorientation.

It’s my favorite queue but my third favorite of the four main rides in the Wizarding World.
