Angelina's first twist: She ages 32 years in 3 seconds between the innocent smile and the first note... It was fun watching your mind skip a beat as you tried to work through it! You could see it in the band members eyes - "Guys, we're gonna have to bring the A game!" And then, in 3 seconds, the innocence is back with a cute curtsey.
This one is great for showing how much the music is just in her soul. At 9 years old, she is doing stuff that can't be learned or taught. She is (somehow) feeling the emotion of the song and bringing it to life. The most amazing thing is how she does it so effortlessly. It's like it's nothing at all for her. She is one of the most natural singers I've ever seen. I think that is what really draws people in. It never feels like she is putting on a "performance"... it's like she is just going about her day, and we just happen to be there to witness it. I really can't think of any other singers that I can say that about.

Well you've listened to two Angelina performances, so you're now completely addicted. There are dozens, maybe hundreds, of videos Angelina and her fans have recorded. Lots of live performances at the very few concerts her parents have allowed, even more recorded in her home studios in Norway and LA. Her younger stuff is amazing as she channels Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, but as she got a bit older she developed a taste for Adele and Amy Winehouse and Lana Del Rey. Her covers of Adele songs are better than the originals. As you listen to more, you'll figure out what we've all learned. You'll get over being surprised by Angelina's talent, but you'll always be amazed.
Dear Schnell, Angelina had just turned 9 here. The woman you saw is her grandmother but the man was the music director going through the changes Angelina made as she does her own arrangements. She started studying music at 18 months and recorded her first song I Who Have Nothing, at age 6 which is the year she vowed to perform barefoot until every child has shoes. You’ve wondered in a couple of your Angelina reviews how she is able to capture and express adult emotions when she hasn’t yet lived them. Well-just accept that she is astonishingly good at that. Actually, she interprets lyrics better than anyone I’ve ever heard. I’ll make this comment short: watch Angelina’s version of A Million Years Ago, an Adele cover. She lives the lyrics, vocally and with her body language, riveting us with the melancholy of an adult reminiscing about the missed opportunities of her life. You feel every nuance of the lyrics. It’s just young Angelina and a beautiful acoustic guitar. This is a side of Angelina you haven’t seen yet, with her soulful, resonant voice that I believe is unmatched by anyone singing today.
A Million Years ago was my favorite Adele song. That is saying a lot. I'm a southern rock and outlaw country fan. Pop and Jazz in not my thing by far. Though I have a few favorites from all genres except gangster rap. Adele's A Million Years Ago was special to me. Until I heard Angie's version. Its her song now, as far as I'm concerned, and I don't care what anyone else has to say. Edit: just close your eye's when you listen to her. She will invoke those long lost and suppressed feelings. Go and watch "Screamin" J Hawkins original version of this and you will see Angelina's genius displayed as she updates (tastefully and respectfully) his work in her version. Most other covers of this song are much tamer and omit many of his embellishments which she includes. The more of her you hear the progressively less are you allowed to use the term "unbelievable"!

As always she sings the song as she believes it should be sung. Instead of the lyrics telling about a relationship between two adults, Angelina could have interpreted the lyrics as a way to communicate to her audience. I put a spell on you because your mine! (you are my audience) Stop the things you do! (stop thinking I am too young to sing like this) I can't stand the running around (don't keep trying to avoid me) I can't stand no put me down (trust your ears, accept what I am giving you) I put a spell on you because you're mine (the whole world is her audience) I love you anyhow (Angelina is full of empathy and love) I don't care if you don't want me, I am yours right now (some people will not care to listen to her but she invites us to enjoy her performance, trust your ears not your brain which is so confused) Angelina is a girl of few words when not singing. Only two things matter to her. First, she wants to sing for the entire world and secondly she wants to improve the quality of life for all the children on Earth. Bless her!! Angelina fans want you to react to everything Angelina. 7/8 year old Angelina at Norway's Got Talent show how ready she was for this. 8 year old Angelina singing Fly Me to the Moon on The View is another wow moment. I love Every Time We Say Goodbye ( very Ella like). I'd Rather Go Blind is a vocal fry treat that harkens back 60 years. Her own Shield is impressive. And on and on. Gary Not sure you know that when she gets older, she doesn't do the growls and screams because of the risk of damage to the vocal cords. Her later versions use a healthier vocal technique.
I’m so glad you came back to Angelina! I love your positive energy and and professionalism (they don’t always go hand in hand 😂). This is one of those performances where the reaction isn’t simply “wow!” but is more of a long “whaaaat???” followed by “wow!” Angelina has many of those, although over time we start to take it for granted a little so it doesn’t have quite the edge it once had. That’s where a reaction like yours comes in - it helps to kind of re-energize that feeling of wonder we all have the first time we hear her perform these songs. You asked for more suggestions, and you will likely be buried in them. Instead of suggestions I will list here a bunch of songs that I have chosen because they all illustrate different pockets of her vast stylistic range, or different aspects of her skills or just something notable. I have added short explanations for each song trying to explain where they fit in the big picture. The idea is this might help you choose where to go next based on your own interests instead of having to pick randomly from all of our own personal favorites. I realize you may have already seen some of these songs on your own. All that said, my personal recommendation at this time would be that you go straight for her original “Shield“ next time you react. It’s another great example of her vocal skill end stage presence. Where do I start. 😞 This is a sad story on a few different levels. It is an absolutely stunning song written by Brandon Lowry of Baby Fuzz while he was at a songwriting workshop in Oslo. I believe the first person to record the song as a demo with Baby Fuzz was Angelina Jordan. It wasn’t supposed to be released because her family felt the theme of the lyrics (especially the last verse) was too much for a 12-year-old girl. It was leaked in any case. BabyFirst was not happy but did not take action and it appears her family has come to accept it as well. Baby Fuzz did record their own version of the song eventually with Lowry’s vocals which is the official version. It’s a great recording but, frankly, the vocals aren’t even in the same stratosphere as Angelina’s hypnotically beautiful version. And it has a tiny fraction of the RUclips hits as the version with Angelina’s vocals. - I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor). ruclips.net/video/ma7sa_n7k-8/видео.html - Disco!! Angelina often has a tendency to slow songs down, which is a very mature and unusual trait for a young singer. With the intro to this song Angelina shows how it’s possible to slow a song down dramatically without actually substantially modifying the tempo. This song is one of the best demonstrations of her creativity and her unbelievable mastery of rhythm and phrasing. - Born to Die (Lana Del Rey). One important thing to remember about AJ is that she owns the rights to everythong she sings. She refused to sign for a record deal through AGT and they relented and invited her to sing anyway. She began singing at 18 months and due to her grandmothers influence, she was drawn to and fell in love with jazz and blues music. She has been arranging most if not all of her music performances since she was 8 yeats old. Currently in 2022 she still performs barefoot, sews her own clothes, (the cloth is designed by her grandmother) and she stands 6 feet tall at 15 yeats old! We all hope to enjoy her performances for many years to come. BTW I'm 80 and have been involved privately in music since age 7.

That wasn´t her mom in that video (Angelina was 9 years old in that video). Her Norwegian mother is Sara Astar, and she is the daughter of the Iranian artist and poet Mery Zamani, who was shown in the beginning of that video. Angelina told several times how her grandmom inspires her. In many videos of Angelina you can see artwork of her grandmom (also in the latest video "Million miles"). Even the clothes Angelina wore on stage singing Bohemian Rhapsody based on Mery Zamanis paintings. ;-)
So maybe I missed it but it would be nice to hear a little about your background in music and how you have come to know a lot of these old classics. I'm guessing sort of like Angelina did, listening to music since you were very young? I wish that more reactors would mention their backgrounds in music. The other thing that would be great is to know when you first saw Angelina and what song it was, then I could find that reaction. I don't know how other viewers feel about it but I'm curious. Diana, and Angelina should tour do a concert together. Both are amazing, but Angelina Is beyond all others, and is also very humble. My mom God rest her soul was an famous singer Way back in the Big Band Era, and sang for all of the greats. She gave me an appreciation for Jazz, R & B, and Big Band, which gave me a love of talented musicians and great singers. Angelina will be one of the greatest of all time for sure. This performance is a rare one (even for AJ) and is possibly the most extraordinary 3-minutes on RUclips. The reason is her full genius, artistry, musical IQ, and respect for the original artist can’t be appreciated by this performance alone. You must compare it to the Screamin Jay Hawkins 1956 original to begin to glimpse what AJ is actually doing here, what "arranging magic" she is adding. Hawkins' image is on the candle at the start of her cover. While "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, almost never is the tone of the original Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins is the original rock screamer (think beyond Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet this unassuming 9-year old Norwegian girl respectfully takes control and sings his own difficult song in a manner that exceeds his both musically and socially. She starts low, rising in intensity throughout, includes many of his embellishments that other covers omit, and finishes in an unexpected and practically operatic style. Compare both and you will see (and be amazed in a new way). These interpretation and presentation skills are all on top of her mastery and control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age. Angelina's first twist: She ages 32 years in 3 seconds between the innocent smile and the first note... It was fun watching your mind skip a beat as you tried to work through it! You could see it in the band members eyes - "Guys, we're gonna have to bring the A game!" And then, in 3 seconds, the innocence is back with a cute curtsey.
This one is great for showing how much the music is just in her soul. At 9 years old, she is doing stuff that can't be learned or taught. She is (somehow) feeling the emotion of the song and bringing it to life. The most amazing thing is how she does it so effortlessly. It's like it's nothing at all for her. She is one of the most natural singers I've ever seen. I think that is what really draws people in. It never feels like she is putting on a "performance"... it's like she is just going about her day, and we just happen to be there to witness it. I really can't think of any other singers that I can say that about.

Well you've listened to two Angelina performances, so you're now completely addicted. There are dozens, maybe hundreds, of videos Angelina and her fans have recorded. Lots of live performances at the very few concerts her parents have allowed, even more recorded in her home studios in Norway and LA. Her younger stuff is amazing as she channels Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, but as she got a bit older she developed a taste for Adele and Amy Winehouse and Lana Del Rey. Her covers of Adele songs are better than the originals. As you listen to more, you'll figure out what we've all learned. You'll get over being surprised by Angelina's talent, but you'll always be amazed.

She started studying music at 18 months and recorded her first song I Who Have Nothing, at age 6 which is the year she vowed to perform barefoot until every child has shoes. You’ve wondered in a couple of your Angelina reviews how she is able to capture and express adult emotions when she hasn’t yet lived them. Well-just accept that she is astonishingly good at that. Actually, she interprets lyrics better than anyone I’ve ever heard. I’ll make this comment short: watch Angelina’s version of A Million Years Ago, an Adele cover. She lives the lyrics, vocally and with her body language, riveting us with the melancholy of an adult reminiscing about the missed opportunities of her life. You feel every nuance of the lyrics. It’s just young Angelina and a beautiful acoustic guitar. This is a side of Angelina you haven’t seen yet, with her soulful, resonant voice that I believe is unmatched by anyone singing today.

A Million Years ago was my favorite Adele song. That is saying a lot. I'm a southern rock and outlaw country fan. Pop and Jazz in not my thing by far. Though I have a few favorites from all genres except gangster rap. Adele's A Million Years Ago was special to me. Until I heard Angie's version. Go and watch "Screamin" J Hawkins original version of this and you will see Angelina's genius displayed as she updates (tastefully and respectfully) his work in her version. Most other covers of this song are much tamer and omit many of his embellishments which she includes. The more of her you hear the progressively less are you allowed to use the term "unbelievable"!

As always she sings the song as she believes it should be sung. Instead of the lyrics telling about a relationship between two adults, Angelina could have interpreted the lyrics as a way to communicate to her audience. I put a spell on you because your mine! (you are my audience) Stop the things you do! I’m so glad you came back to Angelina! I love your positive energy and and professionalism (they don’t always go hand in hand 😂). This is one of those performances where the reaction isn’t simply “wow!” but is more of a long “whaaaat???” followed by “wow!” Angelina has many of those, although over time we start to take it for granted a little so it doesn’t have quite the edge it once had. That’s where a reaction like yours comes in - it helps to kind of re-energize that feeling of wonder we all have the first time we hear her perform these songs.
You asked for more suggestions, and you will likely be buried in them. Instead of suggestions I will list here a bunch of songs that I have chosen because they all illustrate different pockets of her vast stylistic range, or different aspects of her skills or just something notable. I have added short explanations for each song trying to explain where they fit in the big picture. The idea is this might help you choose where to go next based on your own interests instead of having to pick randomly from all of our own personal favorites. This is probably her most sublimely and cerebrally beautiful vocal performance, as if it was the culmination of everything that she has learned before it. Her own arrangement; totally unique, but also completely respectful of the original. Completely absorbed the attention of everyone in the theatre, reduced many to tears. Got a “wow” tweet from the surviving members of Queen. The embodiment of what makes a Angelina Jordan a truly great vocal artist.
2. I Put a Spell on you (Screamin’ Jay Hawkins) - ruclips.net/video/nwFloCPXzCs/видео.html . A LOT of jaws have been injured when they dropped to the floor while listening to this song. She had just turned nine years old. I repeat, she had just turned nine. That’s Screamin’ Jay on the CANDLE at the beginning of the recording. (I seem to have this incessant need to keep referring to it as a “mug”).
3. Norway’s got talent performances - ruclips.net/video/O2bX15tYFVk/видео.html . These are the performances that put the 7-8 year old Angelina on the world stage. They are all short so all four performances add up to less than 10 min. I like the all-in-one version because it shows a pretty amazing progression, particularly in her confidence and stage presence.
4. Shield (Skavlan tv show performance). One of three originals she has released so far. Probably most “commercially” polished. She wrote the lyrics which are beautiful and meaningful (about her family who have guided her career and protected her). - You may have heard of a dude named Quincy Jones. In 1964 he arranged a version of Bart Howard’s “Fly me to the Moon” for a couple of other dudes named Count Basie and Frank Sinatra. That became the iconic version of one of the all time great jazz classics. Flash forward to 2018 and there is a big bash at the O2 in London for Quincy Jones’ 85th birthday. Quincy played a pretty large role in the development of another dude’s career - kid named Michael Jackson. At the O2 event he described Angelina as the biggest talent he’d seen come along since Michael Jackson.

This arrangement (as with all her music, by Angelina herself) and performance is an absolute genius piece of art. In terms of its brilliance as a completely unique and sparse but faithful arrangement of the original classic song, it is on the same level as her Bohemian Rhapsody cover. - Wanna see her upper register? Watch her take Whitney for a whirl with I Have Nothing. For a song with a kind of sad theme, I’m not sure why listening to this makes me happier every time I hear it. Calming-for-the-spirit performance on a rooftop in downtown Oslo for a radio station. Like Cry Me a River, this is more sorcery than music. But in a very, very good way.

- I’m Still Holding Out for You. ruclips.net/video/Dv8mjCh5iiE/видео.html . Where do I start. 😞 This is a sad story on a few different levels. It is an absolutely stunning song written by Brandon Lowry of Baby Fuzz while he was at a songwriting workshop in Oslo. I believe the first person to record the song as a demo with Baby Fuzz was Angelina Jordan. It wasn’t supposed to be released because her family felt the theme of the lyrics (especially the last verse) was too much for a 12-year-old girl. It was leaked in any case. BabyFirst was not happy but did not take action and it appears her family has come to accept it as well. Baby Fuzz did record their own version of the song eventually with Lowry’s vocals which is the official version. It’s a great recording but, frankly, the vocals aren’t even in the same stratosphere as Angelina’s hypnotically beautiful version. And it has a tiny fraction of the RUclips hits as the version with Angelina’s vocals.
- I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor). ruclips.net/video/ma7sa_n7k-8/видео.html - Disco!! Angelina often has a tendency to slow songs down, which is a very mature and unusual trait for a young singer. With the intro to this song Angelina shows how it’s possible to slow a song down dramatically without actually substantially modifying the tempo. This song is one of the best demonstrations of her creativity and her unbelievable mastery of rhythm and phrasing.
- Born to Die (Lana Del Rey). Witness AJ’s lower register ruclips.net/video/DNU-HcLuO_I/видео.html . One of the most melodic performances of a monotone song you’ll ever hear.

It was used on the intro for The Walt Disney TV Show on Sunday night, sung by Jimminy Cricket, a cartoon character. I watched all your reactions to her that you have previously done and I am pretty sure you will enjoy these two live performances.
One important thing to remember about AJ is that she owns the rights to everythong she sings. She refused to sign for a record deal through AGT and they relented and invited her to sing anyway. She began singing at 18 months and due to her grandmothers influence, she was drawn to and fell in love with jazz and blues music. She has been arranging most if not all of her music performances since she was 8 yeats old. Currently in 2022 she still performs barefoot, sews her own clothes, (the cloth is designed by her grandmother) and she stands 6 feet tall at 15 yeats old! We all hope to enjoy her performances for many years to come. BTW I'm 80 and have been involved privately in music since age 7.

That wasn´t her mom in that video (Angelina was 9 years old in that video). Her Norwegian mother is Sara Astar, and she is the daughter of the Iranian artist and poet Mery Zamani, who was shown in the beginning of that video. Angelina told several times how her grandmom inspires her. In many videos of Angelina you can see artwork of her grandmom (also in the latest video "Million miles"). Even the clothes Angelina wore on stage singing Bohemian Rhapsody based on Mery Zamanis paintings.

So maybe I missed it but it would be nice to hear a little about your background in music and how you have come to know a lot of these old classics. I'm guessing sort of like Angelina did, listening to music since you were very young? I wish that more reactors would mention their backgrounds in music. Thank you for your great reaction. Her youth and cuteness seem at odds with (when singing) "AJ don't play"! This performance is a rare one (even for AJ) and is possibly the most extraordinary 3-minutes on RUclips. The reason is her full genius, artistry, musical IQ, and respect for the original artist can’t be appreciated by this performance alone. You must compare it to the Screamin Jay Hawkins 1956 original to begin to glimpse what AJ is actually doing here, what "arranging magic" she is adding. Hawkins' image is on the candle at the start of her cover. While "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, almost never is the tone of the original Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins is the original rock screamer (think beyond Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet this unassuming 9-year old Norwegian girl respectfully takes control and sings his own difficult song in a manner that exceeds his both musically and socially. She starts low, rising in intensity throughout, includes many of his embellishments that other covers omit, and finishes in an unexpected and practically operatic style. Compare both and you will see (and be amazed in a new way). These interpretation and presentation skills are all on top of her mastery and control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age.
