Really well put together documentary. I work in Wrexham nearby and this is so tragic on so many levels. Many good men died that day, all at the hands of greed and in the pursuit of profit. These men endured these horrid conditions to put food on the table for their children, their families. To see that payslip docking pay for an employee not completing their shift due to their negligence says it all really. Absolutely spine chilling. May their souls rest in peace x

This is wonderfully-put together investigation and truly tragic story, really. Shame the management wasn't held accountable as they should have been as also the families should have received what they were due in compensation. Where can I find more from the Crimesolver series?

It is important to note that a major reason many of those miners were working double shifts that particular Friday was they traded shifts so they would have Saturday off. This is because Wrexham was playing a match that day and those miners wanted to attend the match. So sad and tragic, may they never be forgotten.

In WW2, British merchant seamen aboard a ship that was captured or sunk by a U Boat had their employment terminated as of that point and so their wages were stopped then too. Even if they went aboard a ship's life boat that after a few weeks made it to land, or were picked up by another vessel, their pay was not extended beyond the ship's sinking.

Absolutely shocking, the cover up, the lies and the greed. This is the true price of coal, paid for by 266 men with their lives. Their widows and families paid too and not a penny compensation. The owners, manager and agent should have been charged with manslaughter, their assets seized.
