I just saw a comment on reddit about making apartments with "npc doors". I searched on RUclips and found your video. This is a great tutorial, a great idea. Thanks so much for making this. I love your builds too
i know this video is on the older side, BUT this is IMPORTANT to know: if you're using many nraas mods, always use the cheat "buydebug off" after not using buydebug anymore so you're not loosing progress to the "infinite save glitch" as i call it idk if that has a offical name yet. So basically the Game will lock up on saving and then will do nothing. exiting the Game via the taskmanager is like the only option then and you'll loose progress.
I really liked your video. Your explanations were clear and to actually show how to make apartments made it so much easier to understand. I've read several tutorials about making apartments, but your video is really very helpful. Thanks!

I really like your video, clear to the point and gives me ideas. One thing though when I looked up building apartments in Sims 3 before despite the marker that goes into an NPC home making it all look black I do believe you actually do need to put in a few basic kitchen appliances and bathroom for the NPCs. I might have found a bad source though so if I am wrong let me know.
Thanks so much! That's really good info, I checked a couple of the EA ready made apartments in Bridgeport and opened up the NPCs rooms and they were empty but I will check a couple more just to make sure that EA didn't make a mistake on some 😊
I loaded up more of the apartment lots in Bridgeport and used the cheat so I could look into the other apartments and I can confirm they definitely don't have any furniture, at least I know now for peace of mind 😊
Hello, the video helped me, but I still wonder if it is possible to make the flat rentable instead of full purchase. Do you know? Edit: I figured it out just now. The trick is to designate the lot as an apartment (duh). So, that was that.
I don't believe so 🤔 but I could be wrong! I would just create 2 or 3 families which are part of a group of the sims you make and then I world make and furnish the building to look like separate apartments without putting in the lot markers so it then wouldn't technically function as apartments if that makes sense?

Thank so much! I believe that particular bunk bed is from the store but a few like it come with other expansions like Into the Future and Generations. There are 2 different types of bunk bed- one which comes with a bed on top of another bed and one which has a raised bed with a space underneath and you don't need to use move objects to put things underneath so that desk just slotted in 😄 hope this helps
Is there a way to turn it into an Apartment lot (so they can pay rent instead of buying the lot) without triggering the roommate option on? I've just not been able to figure it out. 😅
@@pogodziej Great queslet! I believe there is a way to do this, I think before you build anything on the empty lot you can select apartment when you choose residential lot type but I haven't messed around with that way too much so I could be wrong 😅
In the apartment, were you able to choose the NPCs that lived there? Im guessing it works the same as "edit town" so you can evict a family and replace them afterwards?
I just went with the flow and let the game decide, however there may be a mod or something to select NPCs? U may also be able to edit the sim using the testingcheatsenabled true then right click the sim for the option edit in CAS as then you may be able to edit the sim but I haven't actually tried it so please let me know if it works? 😅
So can you go inside their apartments? I notice they just teleport out of the NPC door. Im guessing Sims 3 uses it as a teleport for a randomly allocated sim? You cant decorate their apartment and have them truly live there.
As far as I know you won't be able to enter their home, but you can invite them into yours. It is effectively a randomly generated neighbour who just appears.
@@nessiepenguin that's both sad and eerie at the same time. Someone who lives in the 4th dimension. Only ever appears outside their door. Do they have families at least in the same home? Or go to work and come back etc. If you can remember that is :)

Is it possible to be able to go into your apartment neighbors apartments and putting furniture in them? Or can you put furniture only in your apartment?
Without a mod I don't believe it is possible to go into the neighbours apartments unfortunately which is why you don't need to place furniture for them, hope this helps ☺️

Oh that's an odd one sorry to hear that. Try ctrl + shift + c type restrictBuildBuyInBuildings true this should mean that u can't edit the spheres anymore.
Thank you for the tut! I've got a (probably stupid) question: you've maintained the lot type as residential, thus making our Sim buy their property upfront. What happens with the apartment type lot instead? Would it set a rental price or just f-ck things up?

Thanks 🤩 afraid I only know how to add the family you want to play as and the others will be NPCs. You can cheat to makeover the sims who move in as neighbours. There may be a mod out there to allow u to do this but I don't have one in mind to suggest sorry
There is a mod called "apartment mod" by nraas. It allows you to have apartment style lots like in the Sims 2. You can place multiple families and choose an apartment for each family. Each family is not actives unless you are playing them.
Do you have to make a room h8dden before you can set the door as "make npc door". Because when I didn't, that option didn't come up for me. I wanted to still see the npcs in their apartments

A while back my other half (who is much more technically adept than me) capped the frame rate to I believe 60FPS on Nvidea which I have installed, this helped a lot as it turns out sims 3 doesn't cap the frame rate so at times it will spike into higher frame rates that it can really handle. I still also get occasional jittery moments but in all honesty I just edit those bits on videos so that it flows better. I hope this was helpful sorry I'm not a mega tech expert but I try 🤪 I know there are a few videos about smooth patches for sims 3 which could be helpful although I have personally not done that to my game
Sorry to hear that, maybe try checking the markers are down properly and areas are fenced off fully like in the video, then to change the door type presshold CtrlShift then left click the door to bring up the options and choose Make an NPC door, hope this works 🤞

I have two of each. that solved it for me. btw thnak you so much for this, ive tried for years and years to buildc ustom aparmtnets and always they would be bombarded by so many npcs, now they dont! yay!

There is a bunch of different options but not this one :( does anybody know why?
Sorry to hear that, hope u manage to figure it out. Double check the fencing is around all the doors, all the markers are down and that you click the door to select it to be a NPC door. Really hope u can get it to work 🙏🏼
theres no apartments in the sims 3, you have a house disguised as a apartment, no more than one family can live in it, like the sims 2/4, besides the npcs houses are empty no landlord gameplay no neighbor noise theres no difference in gameplay, they are also so poorly made that you need to cheat and use debug stuff for it to work, in sims 2 and 4 u just need to change the lot zoning. plus the feature they added called "lot apartment" is just the roomate system of university =P theres no proper apartment in the sims 3 at all,
We just have to do what we can with what we have 😊 that's why I wanted to make a video as it is quite tricky to make with all the cheats. I agree it's wayyyy more simple in sims 2 and 4 but I still only play sims 3 ☺️
@@nessiepenguin I love sims 3 as well, but that's why I got so angry with the apartments I love the genie I love the imaginary friend I love the resort system, but I felt angry that ea never give us proper apartments

@@valkyrie2832 either the area in front of the door may not be fenced off fully or the marker may be down wrong? Also to select NPC door option I believe you need to right click on the door to get the options. Hope this helps 🤞

@@claracasta make sure you have not marked your apartment/room as a public space, other sims should not just start walking into your apartment 😬

how do you get your game to run so well?
I'm always getting various simulation lag spikes.. etc
