- At 8:17 PM, the Saint Cassian High School Chamber Choir will board the Cyclone roller coaster. At 8:19, the front axle will break, sending them to their tragic demise. Trapped in fantastical carnival-like purgatory, the recently deceased teens discover a mechanical fortune teller, who invites them to tell their stories of life interrupted, with the promise of a prize like no other. Welcome to the West Coast premiere of Ride the Cyclone, a wildly original new musical. Part comedy, part tragedy and completely unexpected, this wonderfully weird story is at every turn satirical, macabre, creepy, campy and hilarious.

Lilian and Tiffany, the ppl who play ocean and constance, did as well. Alongside Kholby, who played Noel, they were in the main cast for years and they all had to memorize all those openings which is amazing tbh.

2:05 this scene is them dying. Notice how everything is colourful and they’re dancing around? There was a study done on rats that the amount of serotonin in their brains tripled when they died. Also another thing, the last senses to leave us are touch and hearing. “Every kind of music”
The sporadic dancing could be seen as their body’s getting thrown around

I love how every version of the opening number has the “sailing through space” part.
The main 3 have that! Tragic fact is the one that doesn’t have it but it’s mostly an alternate Uranium Suite
1:40 It's just a little thing, but I actually really liked the detail of Mischa not smiling at this line originally, because Uranium isn't his home town and all. I do like that they still found a spot for him and Noel to dance here, even if it feels less natural than in Fall Fair Suite
despite whatever your fave version of the opening is, I am so happy that they kept the part where they're experiencing the fall together and they go into my favorite melody from the show, "round and round and round" I literally sing it to myself all day.

I like that Ricky sings but still gets moved around by Noel and Mischa at the line “You feel a little strange from all that spinning around”. It’s like they did it almost absentmindedly, not even catching he could speak.
Well in the first iteration the fall fair suite, Ricky does not sing at all as well as other versions, so maybe this was one of the few versions that Ricky does sing. Mind you, this was before the characterisation of Ricky was changed to being mute as a result of his dad being killed by a pet snake rather than being unable to speak due to a oontengital deficit disorder that made him mute.
@@moonwalkerangel7008Ricky actually sings in the 2015 Chicago version of Fall Fair Suite, but in the most popular iteration of the show (2016 Off-Broadway production), he doesn't, as you mentioned already!
And the new characterization thankfully is the alternate script that can be used if an able-bodied actor is playing Ricky. It is not the final/end-all-be-all.

@@Tummyachesurvior "Uranium Suite" was originally called "Uranium/Tragic Fact" (at least back in 2013 when I saw the show) but the "Tragic Fact" part was cut and only part of the melody remains on the soundtrack. I really liked "Tragic Fact". It's cool to see how a show evolves over time though. I don't recall this song being in the production I saw, but to be fair, it was a long time ago.

2:00 god this part is so chilling because it perfectly embodies the fear ocean had on the cart when everyone else was having fun; the contrasting lyrics and slightly eerie fairground tone just makes it worse when you consider the theory that she knew the ride might be unsafe and couldn’t do anything (‘had a strange feeling from the start’, ‘i did not feel safe at all’)
At 2:30, when the line "fun is about to start" is sung, I hear Ocean sing "life was about to start"

This is my fav version of the opening!! It’s insanely catchy and I adore how it utilizes the spinny set and the CHILLS when Ricky begins to sing along and the ENDINGGG!! It’s so good.

In my opinion, I definitely prefer Fall Fair Suite a ton, but there are ups and downs to both.
For me if you are watching it live, or from a slime tutorial, then Fall Fair Suite is better. I prefer the song in generally just music-wise and think it is good at introducing the characters.
However, I think Uranium Suite is better if you are just listening to the soundtrack without any other explanations because it provides more information, and I think it fits the message more (mainly because there are very little solo lines in Uranium Suite and they mostly song together, which fits how they were described to have been all put together as "our six angels" by the press. In their finals moments they all sung together, but got to sing for themselves and share their hopes and dreams and such when they got to talk to Karnak)
It might not be intentional, and I've only been watching this for a week or so, so idk but I just thought it was a cool detail.
It pains me that they cut the beginning from the show. It's so good. they went through so many iterations of the opening song, but I'm happy with uranium suite. fall fair suite is probably my least favorite version they went through. But waiting for the drop is incredible and will be missed.

I love how the end of the song contains most of the same lyrics as the first portion but just way more unorganized and just thrown everywhere, it really shows what little comprehension the choir had and that they didn’t yet realize that they were dieing. It really shows exactly how young they were and how their lives were just beginning. But when they start to realize what happened on the roller coaster the lyrics start to change, for example when they start to crash Ocean says “life was about to start” (she used past-tense showing she knows that she has no time left) and Ricky starts to sing and constance was saying “gotta wear shades because it’s so bright” meaning that they “seen the light” so they figure out that their lives are over. It’s kinda upsetting that this wasn’t in the actual musical.
oh i think it says "gotta wear shades cuz my future's so bright"- I think it's such a cute line and shows that they did have optimism for their lives

seeing ricky dancing absolutely sent me. i've never seen ricky dance that early in the show
not to be rude or anything, honestly just curious, from the times ive seen the musical ricky dosent sing in the first song, so seeing this made me a bit confused but it did sound good
To put it simply:
He doesn't sing: they're alive
He sings: they're already dead
whEre is Noel's microphone (also Ricky's crutches left and came back whAt)
I can’t explain Noel’s Mic, but with Ricky, he was originally written as a disabled character with a congenital disorder that left him unable to speak and walk without mobility aids, but aside from the backlash, he was only played by a truly disabled actor ONCE and was fired from the last three shows due to coughing and vomiting up blood and was replaced by his non disabled understudy. The character then underwent a rewrite (not sure how as one of the authors died) but the script and Ricky are now written as a character who is just mute after his father was bitten by a snake.

(also 1. i didn't know one of the authors died what?? 2. that is one of the stupidest things they could have done to erase his disability wtf)
@@hellismurky Neither of the show's writers died, Brooke Maxwell and Jacob Richmond are both very much alive. And as for Ricky's crutches, the situation is basically: this song had an entire verse cut out of the video and while no footage exists, it's possible that his crutches were taken off during the verse that isn't included in the video.

@@kodiesage Yeah, in most intro songs Karnak has dialogue apologising that this is an eulogy dedicated to those kids that rode the cyclone and died. In other versions, he admits not only could he not tell the kids that they were going to die, but he suggested that they Ride the Cyclone.
