    We use a compost toilet on our boat. Then we use it in the garden. Once broken down, soil is soil. This is also a brilliant solution to the water shortage issue. We mix with sawdust and coffee grounds.

      On such a tiny scale, sure. But the second you try that on a scale larger than a small and isolated community, it won't work. Medicine and even BPA plastics show up in almost everyone's urine (BPA is still widely used in food packaging, just not water bottles). It's not certifiably organic, and who knows what sort of harmful effects such a random hodgepodge of medicines and other contaminants can have on both foodstuff, and in people as recycling sewage can have as it gets bioconcentrated, either in people, or the soil the fertilizer is used on.

      @@saba-nz3lc well yea but fertilizers are also full of chemicals I think batches of this would have to be tested to see just how much chemicals, medication or pathogens are left.

      You could grow an intermediary like sorghum grass and then compost that. My biggest worry is pharmaceuticals and birth control pills. Although, plants do not uptake most things it doesn't want.

    We use the waterless centrex 3000 by sun mar. Water toilets waste water and expand our waste into a huge problem. Our system after full 5 people use for four months, leaves about half a bucket of product that looks like wood chip chunks. It can be put directly on the garden however we cycle it thru our regular compost.

    Right after WWII, the US helped Japan recover. One of the things they did was bring modern medicine and hygiene. The two biggest problems were cows infected with TB, which passed the bacillus on in their milk, and night-soil. Human waste was collected and used on the fields. That was the cause of many outbreaks of diarrheal diseases, and deaths in children. Many lives were saved by banning the collection and use of night-soil. This seems like a very bad idea.

    It is perfect and normal way to deal with that particular waste. For ages poo was just buried in earth. Using any water for geting rid off it and any toilet waste is a crime to me, especially with such a huge amounts of water we destroy in our sewige systems every day! By bilions of persons around the world. I wish to be able to use dry toilet as a perfectly normal social standard at any place I leave and all over the globe, particularly during recent huge crisis of drough around the world.

    The Humanure Handbook is an excellent resource for this sort of practice, it details human pathogens and the composting temperatures needed to make them inactive. I save up my "stuff" for a while then make a hot compost pile when I have enough. With temps between 125 f and 135 over a period of 2 weeks I can make a cubic yard of high quality compost that is totally safe

    • @deborahfreedman333
      @deborahfreedman333 2 года назад

      No, that is not safe. Salmonella can survive that temperature. And prions can survive an autoclave. Heat over 70C (158F) is required to kill Covid-19.

      @@DarkHumorWritesItself Thanks for liking India but you are misinformed a lot about India.
      India is not a hot country, it's central and north central region is hot, otherwise in South, it's tropical with mild temperatures and in the far north, it's always cold due to Himalayan mountains.
      And India is not at all overpopulated. It's major cities are indeed filled with people but that's just like any other country. If you are a middle class or even a lower middle class, there is enough living space to leave peacefully.
      And finally caste system is a social order which was based on occupation. For example, I come from washermen caste because my ancestors were washermen. But today, nobody is bound to follow it, however we are aware about our castes. Today if I want I can chose any profession without any issues.
