How to build value in the weave poles so your dog drives through them independently and can manage the entry from any direction in simple one minute training increments. Any dog can become weave fabulous. Thanks Lisa

Thanks Jill! It's so much fun when your dog LOVES the weaves and WANTS to do them independently. You're a perfect example of someone who did the fun work and has the results to be proud of!

Thanks for posting this very useful video. One comment : Training on six poles only allows for a higher rate of reward. More reps, higher chance of success leading to positive reinforcement. Also less hard on dog’s body especially important for younger dogs. Rewarding successful entry into the weave poles is easier to mark when the dog doesn’t have a further 10 poles to get through.

Absolutely! I encourage handlers to decide each training session's goal and balance the benefits of rotating through skills such as reward focus on creating desire, entry training from all angles, duration (6 or 12 poles), distraction, discrimination, etc., and to avoid overtraining and physical fatigue. Thank you for bringing up these points!

First time to watch you. Subd. Have a one year old pet dog that loves to train. Going to try some agility to give her options on how we spend our time together. Thank you so much for this information.

What if one has a bigger dog, is 24 inches between poles still safe?

Hi there, and thanks for asking! Undoubtedly, the larger the dog, the more poles they will engage with simultaneously. For example, a medium dog is generally bending around just 2 poles at a time, while a very large dog such as a Great Dane, could be bending around 3 poles at the same time due to their length and size. As for safety, there are many things that we can do to help our dogs prepare for the additional flexibility that may be required of larger dogs to help make this obstacle safer for them. Things like core strength, doggy yoga, exercises, and training that aids in foot & body awareness can all help prepare for the physical weave pole dynamics.
