Small dogs are athletic too. Ofc, there are some that aren't, but most fo the time, if the owner treats them right and not like a toy, they love running. My dig doesn't do agility, but she loves to run. When she goes full speed, she can be faster than some big dogs
Not to be a downer, but that's their trainer. Usually the trainer is a unique relationship and the owner entrusts them to the trainer for these events to help them be the best they can be. So, still touching and amazing but not their owner unfortunately. Once again, not trying to ruin the sentiment, just thought you might be interested.

I love how the dogs really seem to be enjoying themselves. Jefe being found under a house and less than 4 years later competing in a WKC Masters Agility Championship is inspiring.

It's why a lot of these breeds really thrive in this sort of environment. That being said i did feel bad for poor little Stripper as she did seem to get freaked out and it made me wonder if her heart was really in it. But the love and trust between owner and dog is amazing. And definitely not forced.
Just an FYI in these competitions and in Dog shows the "handlers" as they are called are mostly professional handlers and not the owners. My dog used to do dog shows and most of the other dogs had handlers, especially in the agility contests. Think of the handlers as coaches.
If I ever did anything like this it would be to spend time & have fun together with my fur baby. That alone would be enough even if we never won a single competition.
Stripper said "the teeter made a noise. I'm done now." Poor baby! I love how the handlers keep the focus on keeping the dogs comfortable and trying to end on a positive note for them! 🥰
As a dad of a smaller dog, watching these competitions makes me so happy. I have received comments like, "why don't you get a real dog," when on hikes with my doggies, but these competitions prove that small dogs are can very athletic and active.
I love the dog athletics, it's so much less stuffy and lame than the regular dog shows. they're actually fun to watch and they let all sorts of dogs compete, like they don't go "oh you're dog's not a such and such breed, he can't compete." they let all the dogs compete.
