BMW has set up a new formula to try and shake off the thorn in its side that is Tesla.
Because the iX, in showrooms now November at prices starting at £69,905, the SUV with the length of the X5, and the height of the X6, offers as much space as an X7, but drives as dynamically as a 5-Series. You could even say it’s as dignified as a 7-Series. That's an impressive equation.
But some say the iX is a bit of an ugly duckling. Is it? Or is there more to the iX than just the looks. Tom Ford finds out

One thing I like about BMW is the quality of the interior fittings, absolutely top notch unlike Mercedes. I’ve had both car brands but Mercedes uses too much cheap plastic in the interior for the prices they charge. Really puts me off. Don’t like the front grill of the new bmw though. It’s hideous

Aside from its monstrous looks, which of course are subjective, the bigger problem with vehicles like these is that they just are not a responsible approach to the future of motoring. Yes it might have zero emissions at the tailpipe but the thing is so massive it probably weighs as much as Pluto and generates its own gravitational field. It will also consume way more raw materials to manufacture and power to move around than is necessary for the space and practicality on offer. I can see very little real innovation in it. I think BMW are way off the course with cars like this if they want to be considered an innovative and responsible manufacturer fit for the challenges the future holds.

@@marlasota I guess the better question is name something on this car which is innovative. Is it more efficient than others, faster, better safety features, more storage, a new v2g system etc? It is very large, very heavy and very luxurious none of which is "a responsible approach to the future of motoring" when thinking of the climate crisis. All these electric vehicles will be a distant memory when all truth comes out about all extra fossil fuel power plants needed to produce extra electricity to charge electric vehicles and the millions and millions of end of life toxic batteries littering our planet and the wildlife dying near the lithium processing areas in sout America and children mining cobalt in the Kongo unless you don’t care that the planet will be in utter danger from this madness carry on , in Japan they may not go for electric vehicles as they would need to build more fossil fuels power plants to charge electric vehicles I can’t understand why you can’t see the obvious it’s in plane sight

What an ugly beast. BMW has for some time lost it’s mojo on new car design. It’s only great at its classics.

Totally agree. Used to look at Bm's and think nice looking car but these days they look numb.

A face that only a Mother could love. Hideous AND boring at the same time. Sucks AND Blows. Quite an achievement. Was the designer actually working for Tesla secretly? And what's the need for a huge bulky front now? None at all.

Ugliest BMW ever produced by the Müncheners...so far... looks like an oversized half-deflated balloon. Just an opinion.

Quack quack. That is one hideous car. Well done BMW for ruining your brand image with a series of absolute monstrosities. Sack your design department immediately. Of course the grills in the current models are oversized. They're out of proportion and offend the eyes. Why would anyone spend their hard earned money on something so offensive?
