There are a lot of comments on the look, particularly the grill. I simply LOVE it! I find that front really beautiful! A big grill? What about Audi e-tron, Audi Q4 e-tron, Lexus UX300? They have what you call huge! And I can't remember seeing any comments on those. The BMW grill combined with the other details on the front makes the car look aggressive and really stand out from the crowd in a positive way. There are so many other features of a car that are really important when choosing your next car: range, regeneration, level 2 driving, AWD driving on icy roads, head-up-display, navigation, menu system, configuration, comfort, wind and wheel noise, ground clearance, .... I have looked at the 20 most interesting electric cars on the market, and BMW IX 50 is top notch on everything. It is a fantastic, beautiful car and it will be my next car. I have a BMW i3 and X3 with a total of 13 years with BMW experience and NEVER had any issues with those cars. BMW is simply a super high level of quality.
Size isn't everything. The grills on Audi looks good on the cars. One big well designed grill. This however looks like bugs bunny teeth, or huge nostrils. I've had two BMWs before and loved them to bits, but in mine and lots of others opinion, BMWs new design language is horrible.
@@MightyCalves I totally disagree. I rather put the tag "horrible" on the Audi and Lexus grills. I also see comments from journalists in several youtube videos that when they see the car in real life, they find ithe front much nicer than first impression from photos. Since the car won't be available for display where I live until November, I still have to judge it from photos. But if the journalists are right, then the iX will probably look even more impressive for me in real life. But no matter how it looks, the iX has 100% match for me on so many very important features, that the choice is obvious for me. The good thing now is that there is such a huge number of electric cars available on the market that there should be something for any taste. All other electric cars I have test driven so far, they all have some features I have don't like. But on iX absolutely everything is super match with what I want and expect from an electric car in 2021.
I got a preview on the iX a couple months back since I have already ordered it, and it’s true, in real life it looks way better than in photos. On top of that the looks grow on you. And even if you don’t like the looks, it’s worth buying due to how good the car is.
Funny debate you people are having. Style is subjective, thats why there are 100's of car models. I can see this being popular in Scandinavia and Germany. It has that minimalist look to it, except for that grill which inspired Edvard Munch's painting ... 😱
This is the best EV SUV to date, and probably one of the best family cars out there. The interior is dreamy. I am already used to the large grills, not a problem to me at all. I prefer a car with a distinct look instead of a generic one. Definitely a class leader.
good for u. now 95% of the people who see u on the road with this wont even turn their heads. and people will only comment if its parked while walking by :).. i know your buying this because of attention but u wont get it my man.
@Tim The question is; put this and a Model X next to each other and which one would you take? Personally I’d take the BMW as despite the obvious infrastructure benefits Tesla has, the build quality is still nothing like as good as anything made in Bavaria. Take each apart and put it back together and I’m sure you’d agree, on build quality anyway…
Good work Schnitzel, looks like an impressive bit of kit! I don't mind the looks too much! Prefer to the model X for sure, especially as you can't get into the car through the door gaps!
Whatever you think of the looks there is one thing for certain, it's a head turner. Just check all those hikers turning back to look at the car. Me personally I think it looks great!
I really like this car. And that black/bronze spec is actually cool. The quality/tech/ride/ sounds awesome and useable and the interior is just perfect, well thought out, easy to use, ergonomic, and really good looking.
I believed that the iX50 would not be available until September in the UK, however, my usual BMW salesman phoned today to inform me that they had just taken delivery of one in Sophisto Grey Metallic and black leather seats. I have traded in my i3s and X5 M Competition for it and will take delivery this coming weekend.
What’s under the bonnet? Batteries? That bonnet is massive, be good to see what’s under the bonnet when you review, just to see what is there and why it is so massive
It seems like an amazing car! I don’t mind the looks too much, it somehow doesn’t look as odd as the other new mega kidney Beemers. Great review as always 👍🏻
Great video as always. Do you think you could do a day in a life of a car reviewer video as they are very interesting and see how you get to car shows or how to review cars like the way you do
I gotta say - I was skeptical of the grill at first, but it really grows on you with time. Also when I took it for a testride, it looked much better in the flesh(carbon?) too. No regrets about buying one... Its like the i3, its very different, very unique, and takes some time getting used to the design - but once you do it really actually looks great - but in a more aquired taste sort of way, just like drinking beer and coffee are aquired tastes
Haha, I totally agree, and well done for buying one. I've got one coming in a few weeks to review in the UK and actually spend some time with using as a family car so I'll do another video on it. Agree on it feeling special like an i3 does.
I love that BMW is surging forward with tech, but their new design language is just so horrendous. Hopefully once electrification becomes mainstream, automakers will return to cars that don't have to shriek "the future looks grotesque!".
Schnitzel? Yes please! If no sausage roll available.... Love all the tech - it has all the things I want in my next car (HUD in a very quiet, long range SUV EV) but its SO expensive, I'll probably get a Polestar 3 or 4...
Thanks a lot for this very interesting reviuw. Yeah, the grill... when I first saw this car, I just "BMW change that design now!" But now its looking better and better. Anyway, this car is a winner, well done BMW. But wait a minute.... I have been reading for looong time, that "The Legacy Automakers are all going bankrupt". Okey...? And what about "The fossil dinosaur Mercedes"? Just oooaaao, suddenly the EQS series appears. Imo the biggest EV surprise in 2021. Looking foreward to your next reviuw.

Smooth Pink Floyd reference, grill aside it looks like a big expensive BMW which is I guess what some people want and buy, it seems incredible and so quiet. I struggle re 2+t cars saving the planet, however my hope is these things are 90 odd % recyclable and that legislation makes this happen at end of life. Anyway at least when people buy these things 4th hand they won’t have to spend thousands replacing BMWs chocolate timing chains and turbos 🤣
You've summed up everything I had to say. We're probably car guys, and I think a minority so inconsequential as to be irrelevant to the criticism that BMW will just brush off with massive sales success.
Who ever is at BMW right now designing cars, must have a penchant for Beavers. The furry ones... Err... I mean the animals that make dams. Ahem...!! That aside. Their looks are starting to grow on me from the first 4 Series coupé to this iX model. I actually like it now, if truth be told and I do like the interior of this iX.
no point driving a massive battery around town if you do 95% of your trips in town, rather buy a small ev say i3 and have your old x3/x5 diesel for the long trips, will cost so much less...
14:25 It took me a few seconds to understand why you reflected your way to say thank you. No German would ever have such thoughts as Hitler is neither a joke topic nor a topic at all in Germany. We are just friendly people.
Doesn’t seem to be designed by car enthusiasts, more like it’s designed by cappuccino lovers that were commissioned to design a car and then got influenced by management that they want a general purpose family car. Doesn’t excite me but I hope it sells and BMW can focus on more sports cars like a hybrid or full electric convertible Z4.
There's so much more to this vehicle than its looks. It's quite ugly but i love it. However, the Nissan / Lexus floating roof design absolutely must go!

What’s your opinion of the driving position? Is it quite upright (similar to an X5), or closer to that of a sedan?
