    I think Yunjin is kind of the embodiment of the mantra "be the change you want to see in the world". She is no more immune to negativity than anyone else, but because she wants to live in a world in which people are more open, honest, and supportive of each other, she radiates a relatable honesty and a grounded but relentless positivity that inspires others to follow suit. That's why she matters. That and she's an absolute goddamn laugh riot, you can't help but like her because she's exactly the type of person you'd want around as a friend.

    Hybe seems to be so much more focused on talent and letting their idols be actual musical artists than most agencies and I really love that, I love that txt and bts have the freedom to write their own songs and speak their minds on what they care about,
    we haven't seen much of enhypens and new jeans other talents and thoughts yet but im sure it'll come soon and even if it doesn't that's fine too but imo hybe groups are just more relatable and most of their artists just seem like normal people who happen to be celebrities

    Seeing her journey from going to be an opera singer, to getting into the K-pop industry, then almost giving up on it and even questioning if she should have dropped out of school is super relatable.
    She is someone that excels in singing and wants to keep singing, yet her personality always comes off as enduring, ambitious, and inspiring. She understands the responsibility she has as an idol and knows that people are going to have their eyes on her, but it's how she expresses herself and reacts to things that make her relatable.
    She's also super funny which is always a plus too.

    I think the dynamic of le sserafim is really good for Yunjin, she has a strong opinion for the group as we can see and her opinion can be supported by Kkura and Chae that have seniority which can help in talking with the company and veto some stuff (just like the diet problem that was shown in the documentary). Yunjin had personal problem with "fans" (she was hated by the public because of what happend in PD48 for some reason) or personal decision making around career that she can talk about with Kkura (she said she ask a lot of advice from kkura), can have a fun and caring eonni with chae that she can relied on (and talking about singing too), can learn from reserved but tallented dongsaeng (with her balet professional career in the europe which she doesn't have), and very cute and loving maknae that can make her laugh and have fun with. I think if she debuted in other groups she won't be as happy tbh, in le sserafim she shines and can express herself better and somewhat being supported by the company to do it, which she may not be able to if she was in other company.

  • @GleeChan
    @GleeChan Год назад +207

    Yeah, I've said this before: Yunjin isn't the first / only idol voicing concerns about the industry/fans/body image, but she means a lot coming from her because she's basically just got her foot out the door and is saying these things NOW. People like Hwasa and Soyeon never have been shy about their opinions, but they did have to wait until they had a little clout before they started speaking out. So for Yunjin to do this NOW when she has so much to lose shows a lot of bravery and character.

    • @whatreallymatters571
      @whatreallymatters571 Год назад +25

      Neither Hwasa nor Soyeon waited until they had clout to do anything. Hwasa joined as a trainee saying that she wanted to change the industry and how people viewed idols as being these plastic skinny dolls, and Soyeon started off as a rapper who annoyed on live TV that she knew she wouldn't make it far because she was considered ugly. Please do not try and take away from their impact for Yunjin, they literally ran so she could walk.

    • @GleeChan
      @GleeChan Год назад +17

      @@whatreallymatters571 ...
      Did you miss the part about where I said that Soyeon and Hwasa weren't shy about voicing their opinions? Perhaps I could have worded it better, but they did have to wait before what they said had impact because they didn't blast off as fast as Yunjin did. Yes, Soyeon was a known figure before debuting in (G)I-DLE, and even gained a fanbase, but it took getting hits in order for people to start listening to her. (Hell, she wrote a whole song about objectification in her trainee days and people still called her ugly). People can scream injustice all they want, but if no one pays attention, then there's no impact. That's the difference. I'm not saying that what they said early on was completely ignored, but they didn't have prestige back then. Yunjin was basically put in a hot group in the spotlight from day one, and got noticed for the things she said right away by a large amount of people. Again, I'm a huge stan of Soyeon and Hwasa, and do think Yunjin is getting far too much credit far too soon (like you said), BUT I do stand by the fact that her saying these things on debut is brave. Also, I don't think it's wrong that she's getting attention simply because someone like Jessi or HyunA did it before her. The fact what she's saying is getting acknowledged is important, not who said it.
      The sad fact is the Korean industry is going to keep on being what it is, regardless of what any of these idols say or do. I don't think massive change is going to happen in such a conservative country unless Koreans themselves want that - and they do not. Remember, companies catering to international fans is just for the money, not because they care about the things we care about. Western fans opinions don't matter to them, because they know they have a monopoly on K-pop. No one else produces it, so when we scream about some sort of mistreatment or scandal, we'll still pay those companies money for the latest album anyway. The Korean public doesn't do this, they usually are the vast majority in sales, so they prioritize them. If K-netz are against something, the company scrambles to cater to them. International fans are just the cherry on top of the Sundae, we don't matter.
      That said self-producing Soyeon existing is a starting point, and a good thing. Other idols following her lead is even better, and that's what Yunjin is doing.

    She’s outspoken but not too much. She’s in a comfortable place, where international/foreign stans can kiss her feet for doing bare minimum and crazy misogynistic K-netizens can’t drag her à la Irene the “evil feminist”. People gotta think more critically when it comes to Idols and progressivism. Yunjin is a conventionally attractive pale Korean girl in a K-pop band with a minor (as another commenter pointed out) which is under a big company (which has had its fair share of controversies). Many of her deeds can also be attributed to other idols as well, so I don’t get why so many Fearnots treat her as if she’s so revolutionary. I think K-pop idols are so isolated in a conservative and idealistic bubble that almost anything that goes against the said “norm” is seen as “changing the idol industry”.

      Frr, people think her writing a song and doing the bare minimum by splashing herself in rainbow paint means she's making a change, she is a conventionally attractive girl in an extremely lookist colorist industry who's in a group with a 17 year old girl in a big company who has had some controversies itself, I don't get how she's supposed to be revolutionary like her fans said, and her swearing doesn't really mean she's different from other idols either

    Think about it. Underground rappers that eventually persude becoming a kpop group to an opera singer doing the same. It's not just that that's a talent they have cause many idols do have interesting talents. It's the experience in the music industry before becoming an idol that brings a different perspective in their approach to music. It's detrimental to artistry and if you notice really successful+impactful groups like bts, big bang or some idol soloists artists, the pattern is their music has a sociopolitical opinions that are clearly particular to their individual thinking. Yunjin way of thinking really reflects that experience and determination that true artists experience and have the drive for when making music. For them it's not just to entertain but also a therapeutic manner to spill out their thoughts. And it's further more refreshing that it's a girl group this time cause according to many gg fans, 'I am a boss bitch', 'yall cant come near me', 'everyone is trying to be me' lyrics are the epitome of savage music and am just of tired of cringing at it. Like please, women have far more sociopolitical opinions than how people stereotype. And yunjin is such a breath of fresh air with that respect.

Part of being an idol was always about being beautiful, and thats fine as long as idols don't act like they would be there without that. call me cynical but idols being outspoken can only change the industry that much if they can't be outspoken against their companies. the idol industry will never truly change unless companies change, exploitative contracts are outlawed, and the industry environment moves away from toxic workplace culture + gets regulatory oversight. everyone praises HYBE because of yunjin being outspoken, but that just hides stuff like when they openly advertised that they guilted le sserafim into restrictive dieting just like everyone else, when newjeans members are being treated in a way that's unacceptable for minors... I'll believe that the industry has changed when idols have ownership of their workers rights and we don't see stuff like that anymore.

    I love Yunjin so much! I didn't really notice her in Produce, but in her current group she's def shining! Just a small tip. You said "kay-eun" for Kaeun, but its kah- like "nah" and then 'eun'. If you say 'kay' in Korean you're saying "dog", it's a swear word 😅 I hope this helped

    So proud of Yunjin for being open and speaking about those topics as they're obviously not talked about enough in Korea. She's an inspiration to many and shows us that idols are humans and not just scripted robots, we stan!
    (Kinda unrelated but read if you feel like it ^^)
    From my knowledge, the only other idols who I've seen openly support LGBTQ+ has been Dreamcatcher, and they subtlety told everyone that eating a bag of chips is completely fine and nothing but air, but that hasn't managed to surface the media as much as they're not as popular in Korea.
    Both Dreamcatcher and LE SSERAFIM are my top groups forever and always! Both slay the house down boots realness. I'm excited to see what's next in their careers!

    What is she changing though?? She fits all the typical kpop standards, from her visuals to how she acts to her group. She doesn't call out her fans when they either do creepy shit or attack other idols for no good reason and she's in a group with a 16 year old, she's not changing shit, idols like Hwasa and Soyeon have actually been changing the industry by going against the norms of the industry, like beauty standards, attitude, and groups concept and/or sound, yet somehow an idol from the big 4 makes a song about the idol life and gets credited as "the idol that's changing the industry", and y'all still say that big 4 privilege doesn't exist?? It does, reminds me how TXT gets credit for the rock sound in kpop when dreamcatcher and krock bands have been doing it for years but never got attention due to being under small companies. Y'all give credit to anyone just as long as they have the big 4 stamp on them, if Yunjin was from a small company, nobody would praise her for "changing the industry"

I even fell into the group of K pop fans that like one or two groups. So i’m working on listening to more groups. Obsessed with Le sserafim. And used to be with Blackpink around 2017. Then it was Hyuna before that. Anyways thanks for your content. This video was incredible. Hope it blows up like your Chae-won video.

    I haven't been super into the Kpop scene since like 2018/2019 in terms of watching EVERYTHING a group has had to offer (been a Kpop fan since 2008), so I've kinda stopped "stanning" during the second half of 3rd gen and like none of 4th gen. But when Fearless came out... the song was soooo catchy. And when I watched the live stage... my eyes were INSTANTLY drawn to Yunjin. She's so beautiful and her voice is so captivating and her stage presence is so alluring and more than just "choreography." I think her smile is my favorite part about her, you can feel her happiness, sassiness, funniness. And I love her chemistry with the other girls too. I find myself clicking on more videos of the girls to see them all giggly and genuinely having a good time

    What I like so much is that people like her and Soyeon especially, is that they show the reality of K-pop. I like hoe they are involved musically, with writing, producing, and composing music, for me it makes it seem like they are in the industry for the right reasons. They seem like they are in the industry because they love making music, where in some cases I feel like idols are idols because they want to be popular. I feel like as a whole, K-pop fans pretend like idols don’t see the comments that they make on videos, and social media so it’s really refreshing to see how these idols are taking it into their own hands. As long as her company lets her, Yunjin has a bright future ahead of her as a musician, and as an idol breaking down barriers that have been put into place for so long.

    Another thing is about the cake where K-Pop idols have it because of their birthday. They will just blow the birthday candle and then some would (accidentally) throw the cake. We can see many instances that in Le Sserafim, Yun Jin would stand beside that celebrant and if she notices that it might fall. She would quickly grab and hold it also as a support so that it won't fall. That's how considerate she is. Love her for that. She is my biased in Le Sserafim.😁
