My Dad was with the 173rd at LZ English 1968, 1969. He always carried the radio on his back. My Dad's name was Bobby Joe Hosmer, and he was given the Bronze Star. I should have said that he was awarded the Bronze Star. Thank you to all that has served our great nation.
My father was also his team's RTO (carried radio) 173rd LRRPs.
@@tac6044 please thank him for his service if you are fortunate to still have him with you, and if not then my condolences brother.
@@chadhosmer9357 Was your father a LRRP? I wonder if my father knew him as they were a small group all things considered.
@@tac6044 I never heard dad mention that to me but I am sure that he carried the radio. I wish he was still here with me so I could ask him if he knew your father. He was my best buddy.
@@chadhosmer9357 Sorry about your loss. Just remember the good times brother.
It has been an honor and great pleasure to have loved two Vietnam vets, and known many, thank you for your service🇺🇸🙏❤🌹
My uncle served with Company B, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade in the Vietnam war and died in 1968. I know my grandpa misses him very much and I wish I could have met him

@Aaron Jairo i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
God bless my dear and departed buds who hopefully found heaven!
173 Dak To, 11/67. I pray daily for their souls.
Gulliver, I'd love to hear your story some time. My father was also in the 173rd in Dak To around the same time. Be interesting to see if you knew him.
Thank you for your service!
My grandfather ken bowers served in the 173rd. Im super proud hes my grandfather. A real soldier.
I served with 173rd during the Battle for Dak-To, June through November 1967. We lost over 300 mighty fine paratroopers killed and 800+ wounded.
Hand Salute and WELCOME HOME
My brother was in the 173rd that was a hell of a war he came back home with all that stuff he seen they didn't come back to no hero we
lcome but have respect for all who went to Vietnam I joined In 79 I like to thank all Veterans
I believe it was Charlie who called them "Sky Soldiers". They were "The Herd", if you had asked any of them.
Not quite true but close they got that name from the National Chinese paratroopers who called them tein bein in mid to late 50s.. so they were sky soldiers before they went to Vietnam...my uncle bob would always say i was a sky soldier with the herd of 173rd ✌️✌️ there was also a patch that had the words Sky Soldier on it
I've read about the 173d Airborne and the 4th Infantry Div actions in Dak To 1967...that battle was one of the most intense firefights of the entire war...the Sky Soldiers and the Ivymen really stood tall...
One of my heroes Sgt Maggie served in the 173rd. he was my drill Sgt Fort Dix B-3-2, 31 May 1972 until Aug. He was the drill Sgt that cared! He spent many hours on his own time helping us! The other other Drill Sgts smoking and Joking. He wanted us to survive Viet Nam!
Damn it that is powerful as hell..wtf no words
I believe they call themselves THE HERD not sky soldiers. Pride in every soldier and thank you all.
As a 173 trooper in the 60’s, I understand General Westmoreland gave us the tag of “The Herd”.
I could be wrong. It was said the General stated his view of us in a collective march reminded him of a herd of turtles. We weren’t so much into playing name games. Just concentrating on staying alive and watching out for our family of trooper brothers. However, the 173
was loved by Westmoreland, we were one of his favorites to go to’s.
@@gulliver3644 I watched the Vietnam documentary done by Ken Burns a few years ago. He stated that the 173rd was Westmoreland's "personal fire brigade" to be sent in wherever trouble arose.
It's Sky Soldiers.
They most definitely call themselves Sky soldiers the name was given to them before they went to Vietnam by the national Chinese paratroopers
My uncle told me the exact same thing 30 years ago maybe you new him E6 Sergeant Robert Bob Mansfield from Indiana
we did not call our selves the Sky Soldiers we called ourselves the Herd.
Your right delta company 1st bat most of 68
Thank you for clearing that up. I no longer have my father to get that inside info everyone seems to want to distort.
Best regaurds James
@@jamesluney4469 I know what you mean James, heck to be honest I never could get my father to ever talk about his time there during the Vietnam war.
Amen!!!
My Uncle Bob was with the 173rd and he called himself a Sky Soldier with the herd of the 173rd Bob Mansfield from Indiana any chance you knew him
My grandpa was in the unit 173rd airborne
A time when men were real men. Now men need a safe space to share their feelings.. God bless the real men and women who faught for the United States and all first responders💯💝
My dad was William "Woody" Wood and his best friend is Ken Harwood. Dad is no longer here but still in my heart.
I know the title of this video says “1968”, but I was surprised as he was describing the 173rd’s previous significant enemy engagements that no mention was made about November 8, 1965
That was a rough day for the 173rd. Maybe that story was too much of a downer to tell at that time.
The 173rd had a medic that was awarded the MOH in that battle

My dad was 173rd 68-69… radio operator Purple Heart… Bong Son

It's okay to admit they were into the a$$ kicking. However the rest of the war was going, these guys were winning their's.
@victor soto Great job! Loved your work! But seriously, fuck those guys.
Looking for anyone that served with 173rd CIB Gary Faircloth. Gary served two tours in Nam. The second was cut short, he was sent back to the states after taking a round from an AK

Honest to god umbrella academy brought me here after the character Klaus who was mostly tormented by ghosts he heard and saw. He unkowingly stole a time machine got sent back and drafted and eventually time travelled back with "173rd air brigade sky soldiers" tattooed on his arm

1961-1975 US soldiers deatd in Sorth Vietnam was over 50,000 men. If no Hmong soldiers cutting Ho Chi Minh trail in Laos- Vietnam border, the American soldiers got lost more than helf.

The Hmong were Lao, had always opposed iron hand authority, had problems in US, good people. DAVE
You can see on 8mm film, Hmong special forces army, walking to Dien-Bien-Phu, one day too late, with french capitaine Sassi, (ruclips.net/video/9n0Tc_9NN3A/видео.html) Sassi knew very well, how american OSS supplied vietcong leaders in 1945.(Col Aaron Bank, Henry Prunier and co)
Had them as neighbors in Carnation, Washington in 1984-86. Nice people and hard workers who enjoyed their poppies…

This is a horrible depiction of what Vietnam was like.
I think that's the point
It's been sanitized
better to watch a horrible depiction than be in it...........
"This is a horrible depiction of what Vietnam was like...…. " Too right !! There wasn't much blood, for example...……….
Dad was 18 in 18 months mp force's
Gene Francis Colvin died over there my grandmothers first husband
At the end of all that effort,
What was the result?
Ok
And The Heard...
This reminds me of Die Deutsche Wochenschau. Amazing similarities.
Pourquoi la guerre---Pour faire des enfants orphelins, des jeunes qui n'auront pas vécus--- Dites-moi pourquoi la guerre

In the history of the American war in Vietnam there is no record of the involvement of a unit of praaq senam borrowed from malaysia at that time and in desperation this unit was abandoned by the US military on the return journey from among these units and they were safe to malaysia, they brave and brave enough to be left behind by a mighty force in the world with the power of his equipment and troops. I'm just disappointed with the American military attitude that this is not the case but this is the only elite unit for their team of praise and fortune in the history of American or world history
i tried to fact check your comments. Could not. Very elite soldiers. The Brits were good at recruiting and raising indig forces, weren't they? so, why don't you write it up?
WAR IN PATIKUL
đả đảo công sản
Csan bao vê quê hương ba soc lam kiêp cho lang thang sư ngươi
Lots of good men got killed due to shitty leadership back then, and I can attest to the fact that this brigade is no different now.
The leadership is made up of politicians with stars on their shoulders
USA kalah telak lawan Vietnam
And yet another person that makes false statements... You. The United States absolutely dominated that war statistically.... It was the politicians that gave it away.
Vietnamese had never seen an Eagle that was the symbol for the Airborne as a shoulder patch . So the Vietnamese called them “Chicken Men” because they knew what a chicken was
That was the 101st, not 173d.
That was the 101st nit wit
True that, it was the Eagle Patch that gave them the name " Chicken Soldiers" the " Herd" was a separate brigade of the 101st Airborne. Screaming Eagles Rendezvous With Destiny. ODuece Widow Makers 65-66. Airborne!
Ai mươn tui may
This is from 1965, not 1968. Pretty much a fluff propaganda piece.
USA K O IN VIETNAM....
Not really politicians got knocked out of Vietnam our soldiers won every battle that they were in but had to leave
Absolute idiocy to parachute over Namn! DAVE
if you don't get it, then you don't get to play with us. bu-bye.
My uncle always tell me. 2 things that come out of the sky birdshit an idiots classify yourself..... as he boarded another plane
After the utter disgrace and humiliation of the US military in the war , fighting simple rural peasant farmers I can’t understand why any ex soldier would want to talk about being involved in that war . Those British ex vets that fought against the Nazi regime would never speak about their experiences. These were proper soldiers
You absolutely know nothing about statistics... The united states absolutely dominated that war.. It was the politicians that gave it away.
My dad was there. He said he had over 100 jumps between planes and copters.
