I ran the two scene intro from their website just this past weekend and my group really liked it. I am going to run the box set for my group as a side mini campaign while we take a break from D&D. Thanks for the review!

Awesome! I had heard the box set had some rules that were hard to follow or find. Is that true?

I was wondering when preview copies would start to show up! Makes me miss my days of gaming content creation.
    Thanks for the video!

Excellent review. Been on the fence, this is very informative, and should help my group make a decision. Thanks!

And if you are on the fence, you can get the starter box with premade characters, scenario and abridged rules.

Great Review! I bought the Starter set and am running it for our home group. We just finished Act 1 and we are all enjoying it. They Dynamic dice pool system is very interesting. I like how the pool gives players and the GM the ability to burn dice for critical moments or save their dice for reactions. If all goes well, I plan to run it as a one shot for the Incorrigible Party Podcast. Maybe we could even have a guest? Only the Great Old One knows the answer to that!

Great breakdown. Sounds like the system is quick to pick up. Making it ideal for, "Hey, what do you want to do tonight?" games.

Great video, happy to see some more info about the game! Not played properly yet, but set up the starter set’s first scene recently and dabbled with how the system works… immediately enjoyed the DPS system as both a series of defined actions as well as a push your luck mechanism. I have a few questions -
How does the full rule set tackle players simply rolling dice one at a time to avoid dice ‘wastage’, which feels like it’s not in the spirit of the game? Also, are further pre-built recurring characters (I.e. Jenny Barnes, Ashcan Pete etc) provided?

    • @RollDiceTakeNames
      @RollDiceTakeNames  2 месяца назад +1

From you first question I assume you mean for a complex action? You have to decide how many dice you are going to commit, then roll all of them. You can't do it one at a time
Looking through the book, it doesn't seem there are any pre-built characters. So players would have to roll their own

@RollDiceTakeNames yep, I meant completely actions, I should've said! :s Thanks for your response.
I see that the FAQ mentions complex actions can only be performed once per turn in structured scenes, but I don't see where this is mentioned in the starter set rulebook. Totally get why this needs to be a rule, but I wish I knew where this is explained :/

Great overview! I am a die-hard (or insane) Arkham Horror mythos fan and the offering of an accessible, story-driven RPG was too good to pass up. The dice pool mechanics fit perfectly into AH themed play and keep the story moving without unnecessary arcane charts and tables. Already ordered the AH Core Rulebook!

Thanks for the info, Marty! As a boardgamer and RPGer (including running Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu RPG system) I'm curious to see how these two very different approaches stack up. I can see where some of the game play qualities you mentioned may be easier to pick up vs. other RPG systems, and might be effective in bringing in folks that normally only play boardgames or LCGs.

The most famous and overwhelmingly most played Lovecraft RPG is Call of Cthulhu, which is also the best for a truly Lovecraftian feel. AH is more pulpy adventure.

Very true. CoC is great. But I've play so much Arkham Horror The Card Game that I like that pulpy feel.

One issue is thst rhe dice pool system requires you to have alot of dice on hand to track everything. If you have 3 players and a few opponents youre looking at 25+ dice... I recommend for this game small dice as a result, or some alternative way, such as tokens to track your dice pool and then yiu just need 6 dice.

Marty, do you plan to stream/record a session of this RPG? As a board gamer and huge AH LCG fan myself it would be nice to see how a mini-RPG goes.
